  • Dave as Mitch (Ryan Reynolds) is horrified to hear that Mitch as Dave (Jason Bateman) told Jamie (Leslie Mann) he's not attracted to her.
What is The Change-Up (2011) about?
One drunken night, two friends admit that they wish they had the other's life. Mitch (Ryan Reynolds) thinks Dave has it all: a beautiful, loving family and a high-paying job at a prestigious law firm. But Dave (Jason Bateman) thinks Mitch's stress-free life without obligation or consequence is the real dream come true. The next morning they wake up, hungover, in each other’s bodies, and proceed to freak out! With time not on their side, Mitch and Dave comically struggle to avoid completely destroying each other's lives before they can find a way to get their old ones back.

@@Nirobiscloset10 I understand why you say that. If you really think about it, that mindset isn’t just in men. It goes without saying that it’s a cultural mindset problem. As a husband when I watched this and the scene before, it broke my heart because I would never talk to my wife like that. But I am guilty of saying other things or not saying things that made her feel like trash. And since becoming aware I know to succeed in that area of my life.

For those who don’t understand, the husband had never said he’s not attracted to her anymore, because in this movie her husband and his best friend have switch bodies, so Ryan Reynolds is the best friend but now he is the husband and the husband who is now the best friend have said that he is not attracted to her now is because he doesn’t want to hookup with his friend’s wife.
That’s it, I have seen a lot of comments talking about « that’s what men do, they lose attraction to their wife, there always want more … » when it isn’t the case at all in this movie, and it’s pretty sexist to said that about men.

“how can you stay married to someone who is in capable of being happy?”. True. I tried. I was good. And whether she did it intentionally or not, I became her collateral damage, her punching bag. And she wanted more. She wanted people to see her as someone with a perfect life, a perfect boyfriend, blonde and handsome, who is desired by many. As time went on, day by day, bit by bit, she stopped seeing my value. She wanted external validation. So I left, cut off all contact, and now am happier. Like a weight, a burden, was lifted off my shoulders. I am happier not being devalued whenever she didn’t get the validation elsewhere. Folks: value yourself, and your happiness, and your identity. Make them your priority. God bless.

This right there is what sets us up for failed relationships - the unrealistic expectations that seemed to be ingrained from these romcoms who have only two hours not only set the premise but also explore it, justify it and resolve it. Happiness is not the end goal, being at peace and having your actions in unison with your being is the absolute motive.
