  • The children and teenagers who lived through the 2011 catastrophic earthquake and following Tsunami along Japan’s northeastern coast feature centrally in an art project titled, “The Journey Itself Home” (“旅はすみか”), which reflects on how to move forward.
Two pairs of artists, Americans and Japanese, are behind the project: Hiroyuki Abe and Natsuka Endo in Tokyo and Sue Mark and her husband Bruce Douglas from the San Francisco Bay Area. The four met in 2019.
The artists collected thoughts from residents of the impacted Tohoku region of northeast Japan about the recovery and people’s hopes for the future.
