- Our experts talk about the differences between Republican and Democratic versions of maps and whether there is room for compromise. Because Republicans hold a trifecta of power - the Governor’s mansion as well as a majority in both the House and Senate - they have the votes to adopt maps without any Democratic support.
Joining us to look at the maps and offer their expertise are:
-SD 42 Sen. Elena Parent, an attorney and champion for bi-partisan re-districting commissions;
-SD 43 Tonya Anderson, who serves ascchair of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus;
-HD 136 Rep. Carolyn Hugley, a member of the House since 1993 who has lead House efforts to develop the proposed Democratic House map; and
-HD 137 Debbie Buckner, who represents a rural area outside Columbus where population has declined in comparison to the statewide growth rate.
