My 98 Dodge's dash core obliterated, so I can't even get a new pad. My glove box fell out and my cheap radio is held in with zip ties. My head light switch cracked the part that holds it in. BUT the truck is completely rust free. You win some and you loose some.

It's actually real nice except where the original owner mounted running boards. but my interior is freaking cherry somehow. My dash isnt even weak, but the 01 that I replaced with this 98 qclb 5sp 12 valve was actually in showroom condition and the dash was SO bad that i could watch crack when id hit big bumps haha

I replaced the dash on my 2000 cummins three years ago. I left out the front under windshield screws and placed foam pads over the holes so the dash has room to flex and bounce slightly over pot holes, etc.. The front screws actually contribute to dash crack.
I had a 94 Ram that didn't have a single crack in the dash, but my 97 Ram has cracks in every part of the dash. I have to replace the entire dash, not just the top cover. Also if you are replacing the top cover of the dash, you don't have to remove the lower bolts. You just have to loosen them and the whole assembly will pivot on those bolts.
In Ohio they are all cracked except somehow mine escaped...but I swapped my 2 door cab for a 4 door cab...and in doing so mine kind of asploded...but my new cab has a good one...
No other opening line has ever been more true. I feel lucky because my 97 Dodge 2500 dash has only 1 crack in it. I'm waiting for a few more cracks before I finally swap it out.
So are you putting together trucks piece by piece now? I know you have a source for parts and the skills and equipment to do it--there might be some big paydays doing that. Liked the video as always
I have a dash skinz dash cap mainly because my truck only has 2 small cracks about 4 inch long around the center of the dash heading toward the windshield,, and that is alot of work, but I was checking out LBR Speed custom aluminum second gen dodge core assembly sweet looking dash, but most of mine is still intact and that is pretty impressive for a Northern ohio truck since new 2000 dodge ram laramie slt quad cab long bed 5.2 litre 318 magnum V8 46 RE AT gloss black with most of a white pinstripe 1500 4x4, i have two broken spots in the core the glovebox light/switch snaps into a square tab off the dash core that is broken so the glovebox light switch assembly hangs inside the glovebox, and the cup holders wait for it....are fine with the new second gen redesign but the hinge is broken!!!
No the problems are the same no matter what the truck, the thing is people let stuff go too far before they fix things and wear them out then are stupid enough to say they are no good ive had Dodges Fords and Chevys im a diehard GM guy but Dodge and Ford have the best and heaviest trucks you can buy, my daily is a 98 2500 2WD 8.0l v10 and my work truck is a 2004 6.8l v10 ford F250 super duty 4x4 with a utility body and id take either of them over a GM truck anyday.

Pissing oil everywhere, ball joints about to pop out, bad u joints, fuel filter looks like they dipped it in Nutella etc. Then they’ll throw a 600hp tune and 4x4 launch it at 300k miles and bitch about the transmission failing.
I cheated on my broken dash. Replaced the instrument cluster trim which was a snap (I actually removed that trim while driving down the road). Then used some gorilla tape on the cracked dash to stabilize the cracks. Installed a custom dash cover and BINGO....just like new.
I'm going to replace my windshield and gasket. So when I do that I think it would make this dash job much easier being able to reach from both sides. Just a thought.
Not sure if DEBOSS GARAGE is in southern Ontario. Over the years I have owned several 2nd gen. Rams with out the dash cracking. Central Alberta does see severe temperature differences, maybe it's because I wipe off the dash with a damp cloth. I don't use cleaners or polish them.
olov244 you want a carpet dash mat. Seriously. They look good too. I bought my 98 with a mint interior including a perfect dash pad. The absolute first thing I bought for it was a dash mat to keep the UV rays off it. Pull it off when you're trying to impress people haha
And/or use armor all or an equivalent cleaner for your interior plastics. Once a month would be fine, as the stuff cleans it conditions the plastic. Basically keeps it's from drying out. I understand that dodge ram dashboards, especially the 98-02 style are total junk, but with just minor maintenance they will stay in tact and last the life of the truck.
Would glue or silicone those screw inserts back together, looks like thay are interference fit when installed, then go buy a 24 and a sub with my savings to celebrate : ] So what if i am a cheap prick ? I will never take it apart again...
Dodge lost alot of respect with there dashes cracking and not recalling. It was absolutely manufacture defect. Also I have a hemi with broken exhaust manifold studs same story... Stand behind what u manufacture... And you'll get repeat customers

I have heard that if you pull the windshield out it makes it a lot easier to install the dash since when the vehicles are not installed.

John Howard you have to replace it. Those don't fall apart nearly as much so they are easy to find in the boneyard. Goodluck!
