This is the first time I felt myself engaging in your lectures. You give simple and funny examples. Thanks for making it easy to understand Sociology. Usually, my socio-class are boring. 🌹😂
Im in yr 11 doing my mocks in a few weeks, my teacher recommended this channel and you are amazing, so much detail and alot better than reading through textbooks. I now understand more than i have ever done. Hopefully i pass the mocks. Thank you for making this channel.
These look super informative. My kids doing sociology and I got my sociology A level in 97. 😂 I imagine the syllabus has changed. I can't see harrallambus anywhere.. I want to understand her topic. These look super useful. And easy to understand. Thanks
Thanks for your comment - you're most welcome. There's actually (and disappointingly) not been much of a change in what is taught since I did my A-Levels 20+ years ago. You'll be relieved to know that Haralambos is still doing the rounds - my copy of the book is very well read!! Good luck to you kid with their revision and exams and thanks again for your kind words!
I just started a sociology class. Intro and I get everything but I am new to all this. I think they want me to write on concepts from the chapters. Tommorow I get an email on blackboard and will register and hopefully go over my notes and powerpoint. Do not know exactly what is going on. That is why I am here.
Kinda wish when I was in primary school I asked the teachers, why does it have to be boys? I really dislike stereotypes Also great video! Ive got my family and education exam tomorrow and I'm just going over these videos one more time, aiming for a 8/9

If you don't mind me asking in regards to gender roles. Doesn't biology play into that fact though? Because if a group of men and women were stranded on an island the men would go out and hunt and the women would stay back and set up camp (to give a crude example). So while I agree that gender roles are a societal construct (I.e men fixing cars and women baking cakes) Aren't men biologically designed to be protectors and providers whereas women are more carers and nurturers
I think that you could say that gender roles are both a social construct as well as biologically inherited, which of these it is, is essentially the core of the nature vs nurture debate. If you left a group of men and women stranded on an island, you could either say what you mentioned above, but I would add to the nurture side of the debate by saying that the reason why the men hunt and women gather because they were taught to do so through this canalization mentioned in the vid; they were taught that this is what they are meant to do which is why they do it. It is also prevalent in nature with other animals (mostly mammals) where the female animal takes care of the young while the male goes out to find food, but this is yet again one side of the nature vs nurture debate.
@@benjaminbroucke7619 I see so in a nutshell you're saying if these men were taught to nurture and women were taught to hunt then the outcome could be different
I love this ,but it struggle with the speed of the speech .is there any way to slow it down? (with technology) I find I switch off with fast talking .( oldish person )
Hi Fiona, thanks for your kind words. To slow me down (I know I talk fast!) just click the options button (it looks like 3 vertical dots), go to playback speed and select 0.75 and that should do the trick for you. Hope that helps! Ben ✌️
@@allsociology oh my God ! Is that actually a thing? I may have to employ someone to show me but THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart , and congratulations on your fantastic videos , I can’t wait to listen to them all again now .
They are made with the Eduqas spec in mind, but given that lots of the content is the same between AQA and Eduqas, you will almost certainly find them helpful. Just be aware that anything I say about exams will be different if you take AQA. Good luck with your revision! ✌️
It’s designed for GCSE students but I’ve had loads of A-Level students use the videos and find them really helpful. Obviously they don’t go into as much detail as A-Level content, but they’ll certainly give you a decent understanding of key concepts. Good luck with your revision ✌️
