IMPORTANT:
to reduce boot time, open a terminal window on root and type:
chkconfig esp off
I basically said screw it, saved up some money, and bought some silicon graphics machines from a guy that was trying to get rid of a lot. I now have a handful of o2s, some octanes, about six or so Indies, and five indigo2s

idk if there is any other emulator able to run irix
I dont know another emulators running IRIX but popular options are MaxxInteractive Desktop or MAME@@alpenstormYT
well ill be damed .... for years ive been searching for the posibility to run irix on pc with no solution
and here you manage it through mame, i would never have expected that hehe
cool video inded and nice that you made a guide on how to get it working
have you found other solutions to run irix on pc some that maby deliver some better performance
now adays we are running 4+ghz machines and still you tell that you can run like half speed of the old indy 100 mhz , have you seen any posibilities to run anything at a faster phase ? or is it mame here that sets the limit for the speed

i need to do more research on this and make a new video but im pretty sure that mame is at fault here
so... mame tries to emulate the hardware of the SGI Indy and it can only do that at slower speed?
@@alpenstormYT yes mame is an emulator and theres diffence in running an entire os system then running old arcade games
but ofcause it runs more smooth on a real sgi. i have testet and found op to blender 2.49a working on my Sgi O2 and in that you can also edit and do more stuff simular to newer versions vs the old vs 1.0 wich is very limited
ive managed to get irix running at 93-99% speed on the latest version of mame, but the chd corrupts on first boot. when i have a fix ill make a video :D

SGI computers are suuuper cool. You really need to look into some videos and junk on them some time.

You seemed to really struggle using this version of blender, even worse than I did with blender 2.0, I bet this version is a learning curve for those of us 3.0 users.
I'd love to see you actually try to make like, a complicated scene in this emulator, I'm very interested to see if it can actually pull it off or if it would just be a miserable lag fest lol

How do I get the cursor to move and click?
uhh...
there are a couple reasons why it might not work...
first - are you running this on a windows pc? - i have not tried it with any other os and if you are using something else, MAME might not find your mouse...
second - are you using a wired mouse? - MAME might not recognize a wireless mouse
third - are you using a mouse or a trackpad? - again, MAME might not recognize a trackpad
Hey i know its unlikely youll see/respond to this but my Indy startup is stuck down like at 10:57, ive tried closing it and running again but that doesnt work, any idea why it gets stuck or a direct solution would be very helpful. Great tutorial otherwise!
try windowing it by adding -window to the command prompt

I can't open CDRom, I keep getting a "CDRom is unloaded" message.
did you use cmd?
did you use the --cdrom flag with your cdrom filename after it?
it may be from mame, try reinstalling it?
Is there a way to increase performance? The cursor is very unresponsive and the audio is very choppy.
not as far as i know
the audio choppiness is from the emulator
Is irix broken in all versions past 0.222?
i've tried it on newer versions but this method didn't work
you could try, but it might corrupt the chd
