Really demonstrates the up armoring that happened during the war. Strange on how many rounds were fired off and yet they are now very rare.Thx for the vid.
It is frustrating to me not being a super artillery buff, I wish you guys could include the bore size with the lb. size. But the visual comparison size was great, that comparison helped immensely even documentaries flumox this. It looks larger in diameter than 88mm any idea of the measurement?
The 75mm used in the Sherman and British Cromwells and Churchills was a fairly low velocity projectile (2000 fps) and so couldn't penetrate the frontal armour of the Tiger which was 100mm which was why they developed the 17pounder from the field gun.
Try Gunbroker.com search for ammunition, large bore and inert & cannon ammo. Then take a deep breath and see what prices they are getting for these things. At least you get to see what rare rounds look like and most sellers post extra info on the type.

Yes the 2 pounder was 37mm, the 6 pounder was 57mm and the 17 pounder was 76.2mm
@@tevie54 righteous thanks
6 pounders were also capable of killing a Tiger with APDS rounds which could punch through 140 mm of armour at 1000 yards range.
how did you get the 17 pounder ???
I bought the case off ebay several years ago and I found the head propping a door open of a cafe on the Isle of Wight last year
75 mm... 60mm of pen? I think it's more like 110mm (according to war thunder)
