Early Winter Canola Hybrid (CC17065) Swathing Pick-Up/Harvest, Central TX

  • Rubisco Seeds' Early Winter canola, conventional hybrid #CC17065, grown on Rocking H/ Tomahawk Farms in Lohn, Central Texas and harvested by Skinner Harvesting, Emporia, Kansas. Swathed on April 28th and harvested May 7th. 35 ft swaths harvested with John Deere P615 pick-up header (wider belt style). Final average field yield was around 40 bushels (~2000lbs) per acre. CC17065 was air seeded into 7.5 inch rows with John Deere no-till drill at 3.3 lbs per acre on October 14th. Previous crop was wheat, only ran one pass turbo max vertical tillage.

    Very well done video. Is 40Bu average? I thought most canola down that way was straight cut? Most still swath up here. There are a few good varietys that wont shatter. Most Canola around here will run around 50bu. Wish we had Winter Canola. Make spring somewhat easier.

      Thank you for the comment. 40 bu is a good number and will vary both sides of this depending on moisture and temperatures during seed fill. There are an increasing number of guys who wish to straight cut although this continues to be countered by prevalence of older shatter prone genetics from many seed suppliers. Where are you located?
