*I would love to see an Isopod or bug tank! I feel it would be a great change from the normal animals and fish you tend to create homes for!* p.s. love your videos! I find them very relaxing and it is great that you create these vlogs to keep us updated!
I found an orange isopod in my terrarium on Halloween, I was so excited! I started my colony just from a few specimans I caught in my mom's yard, all the usual dark grey and black so finding this one was really cool. I'm starting to gain a real appreciation for these little guys. :)
Occasionally the orange gene will come through. I recommend trying to find more and then selectively breeding them. I did and now I have a whole orange colony.
I'm excited about your mangroves, can't wait to see what you do with them. I'm also itching to do a brackish set up myself, and I think setting up a brackish mangrove swamp for some mud-skippers would be awesome in your collection.
SerpaDesign i’ve kept wild caught killifish and they never jumped out of their tanks...i did catch them in literal puddles so maybe they were conditioned to not jumping out of their designated home

I remember first watching your videos when I got my first reptile, a long tail grass lizard, and was looking searching for ideas to include in it's tank. Now his tank is full of life, I wasn't planning on subscribing and staying, but here I am. I am excited for what new content is to come.
I love them!! I recently got into the hobby and I am hooked!! I started because I watched one of your videos and I went ahead and built a paludarium with isopods and springtails, after that, my daughters fell in love with these little guys and we've been making more! I'll need to find these now.
So cool. Those isopods are beautiful- both kinds. Your fish and shrimp are also simply amazing, and I can't wait to see what you jave in store for the new additions. Great work on this video, Its always just so fun to watch.
Hey Tanner, thanks for inspiring me to use that terrarium I've had laying around for awhile. It used to be for some Sarracenia purpurea, but since I moved them into a larger sterilite container, I can now create a mossy terrarium. Your videos have been really helpful in deciding how to go about setting it up!
You could also get a figure 8 puffer for the brackish tank, along with guppies, bumblebee gobies, and ghost shrimps. The figure 8 puffer won't bother the guppies, gobies, or the ghost shrimps, though they will need some snails to feed on to file their teeth down Having a small puffer is like having a puppy. They are energetic, friendly, and they need enrichment in their tanks so weaving in and out among the mangrove roots will be fun for them. they are like little aquatic blimps.
Guppys reproduce like crazy. My grandpa has guppys and has had them for 40 years. Those things have been inbreeding so much they lost all their colour. That doesn't really look awesome.
@@snowball_from_earth yeah you have to put a little work into them to keep them looking good. Culling, introducing new bloodlines, it's not hard but you do need to do it.
Those are really cute. Thanks for introducing me to bioactive setups. I only have dogs and cats but it's nice seeing your various critters well cared for
If they have only recently been discovered, I can't imagine there are many in the wild. I would refrain advertising any animals like these as 'Pets'. as the pet industry is already a HUGE problem, especially in Asia! I don't want to be a downer, but can't help making people thing how these (or other) enchanting creatures got from a forest half a world away to an enclosure in someones house. If you read this, I thank you for your time and not just writing me off as just some nature lovin hippy but as a person who cares deeply for the natural world. :)
Micky Tootle well, I mean, there’s probably a lot since there’s 10,000 species, also. If they survived 350 million years ago, I’d be thinking there’d be a lot.
@@Shrekmaster-qc4ly this is true. But theres not been a mass extinction like the one humans are creating at this moment since the destruction of the dinosaurs.
These are likely being bred from cultures. Sourcing them from the wild simply isn't feasible to meet growing demand because finding a difficult to find bug, in large quantities, is--well--difficult. So several are captured and then bred.
They are also not supposed to be anywhere but where they were found. If they escape and start to breed in the wild in other countries there could be major ecological issues. There are major problems in Florida now with people releasing pet pythons into the wild, and they are eating the species that actually belong there. Carp, which people released into the wild, are destroying the ecosystems of lakes and ponds all over the US.
Tanner I have to thank you. Your videos of how to make a terrarium from natural things found in your area helped me make my first terrarium. My daughters and I went on a walk through our neighborhood (mind you it’s summer in California and super hot and dry) but on our walk we found moss that was dried out and learning from you I rehydrated it and then found some small plants my daughters found tiny pine cones (but not pine cones) and we made the terrarium just as you showed many times and then we waited for a while and when the terrarium still was living, condensating correctly, and smelled like a Forrest floor I decided to let my girls find a couple little Rollie pollies (pill bugs) and we added them. It’s been a while now and I check on them looking through the glass and we get to watch the little Rollie-pollies walking around, eating, and they both have their own little homes they made under the rock I added for my hardscape. This has been a wonderful journey and I can’t wait to get my art/office/school room setup and painted because I will be making more terrariums and I will be putting in many plants all around the room on shelves and I’m excited to get wine plants to crawl around the room to make it feel more like my own personal terrible.
