RIP Richard Samet "Kinky" Friedman (October 31, 1944 to June 26, 2024).
When he said "figure", i thought boy, i know it's comin'
I discovered Kinky thanks to the Don Imus show. Forever grateful 🎉
They ain't makin' jews like Kinky anymore ❤
RIP Kinksker, I have your 2006 posters in my windows today, I'd still vote for ya. We read you and read you for generaltions, you will not be forgotten.
What a fun lil jingle.
missed for ever, never forgotten, absolutely original
They used to play this on the radio.
The good ol' days.
That's HOW I first heard it......
First, on the original KFAT in Gilroy, CA....
Then later on KPIG radio, Freedom, CA.
BHE
We are all kin whether you like it or not.
I interviewed him during the 2006 campaign. Kept waiting for him to get more than a modicum of seriousness. Years of hindsight later, I figured that was defensiveness - he was afraid he might actually win if he got serious.
RIP Kinkster...a great Texan!
Kinky Friedman and the Texas Jewboys
It’s not for everyone, but he’s making fun of everyone. Including himself. That’s why it was cathartic to let out . One thing Lenny Bruce got right was It’s the suppression of the word that gives it power ,so instead of trying to ban something like speech , you give it more power . Like if someone calls you ugly , which is more likely to happen? Them to stop calling you ugly or you ignoring it . Remember sticks and stones .
RIP
Yeah this was the norm even then. It wasn’t all roses like people think then.
...and folks weren't worried about offending anyone else ;-)
