Man I learn so much better when I know I'm not being tested on the material. Learning this for my own knowledge, all the info sticks. Watching this format at school results in me forgetting everything/not understanding properly. Thanks for uploading.
Good tech review. Too bad it is not for older Toyota models. I know the RAV4 4.1 and 4.2's were full time 4wd (not slip detected). This was one of the best 4wd systems for soft roaders. The down side of course was fuel usage...
AetiusPraetorian My 97 rav4 5spd full time 4x4 (+ e loc t case + oem torsen lsd)nails down 25-26mpg in same driving conditions that net 22-23mpg in a bone stock 02 bugeye wrx. The Rav4 with this rare drivetrain combination is a real snow beast. Its far more capable than the subaru. The only down side is no selectable low range t.case. it would be a serious little bad a$$ if it had that.
AetiusPraetorian I’ve seen a video were this gen of rav4 had a hard time going up a mild hump. Looked like the rear wasn’t getting enough power to power up the hump. So you know if having more power to transfer would’ve made the difference or that the system transferring power to the rear wheels was past its limits? Also, what would having an lsd on this gen do for it?
I wish I still had my 07 6 speed manual Fulltime 4wd FJ Cruiser, it was a beast ! Of course love my 2010 6 speed manual TRD Offroad Tacoma 98.9% as much as I loved the FJ. The only major problem with both would be the gas mileage.
The presentation was excellent, you can't as for a better explanation than that, for real! I have a 2008 Rav4 and that fucker goes everywhere, with the exception of sand, where it does ok as long as you don't get into any soupy sand. I buried mine up to the under body on Kure beach, NC a few years back, right when High tide was coming in! Talk about shitting your pants! WOO! I got it out with about 2 minuets to spare before 3 feet of water came into that spot where I was stuck. Wont make that mistake again.
Hello. I just brought a 08 toyota rav4 4wd and I'm thinking about going offroad with it, after I make some upgrades bigger tires and lift it 2 inches. But I have heard that the rav4s aren't capable to go off-roading. Is that true, how ur experience was, what would you recommend me?
Alex M. The Rav4 is a great machine but it is not a Jeep. Remember SUV's are "Crossovers" they are made to spend their time on a road with some light off-roading, while something like a Jeep was designed to be off-road. Mine does well in snow and sand if you drive it correctly, but it is not a rock climber. I am looking to get into a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee in about 2 years (i don't buy new) because that thing come with a v6 deseil and a hella trail package. That is an "offroad" machine!
i have one gxr 1998 vehicle. its 4 wheel system not working .when working 4 wheel system its coming one light in switch . but now not coming light & not engage 4 wheel system .can you say what is the problem ????. thank you
You probably dont care but if you guys are stoned like me atm then you can stream pretty much all of the new movies on InstaFlixxer. Been streaming with my gf for the last few weeks =)
i think if the front axle has a limited slip differential, yes you can on a hard surface. But if you experience jumping when turning, then its not recommended, on on soft surface only..
is the ON-Demand AWD on the matrix, across all years? I have a 2005 matrix XR AWD. does this vehicle feature the same exact "on- demand" system as shown in the video? or was that a change between gen 1 and 2 of the matrix? need help, thanks
That was very in formative but some more information is required such as how the transfer box works i mean how does it transfers power. And there is a high traction in the transfer box which could lead to damage it.The locking feature is good on the slippery surface it is very useful.
+Adam Novak I agree that it is disappointing and I am very annoyed by it; I have driven two standard transmission All-wheel Drive Subarus for the last 25 years...... my husband bought me a very nice new RAV4 because I have a busted back and need the comfort. The darn thing fishtailed on a turn, and I was only driving at 10 mph because of the snowy slush.....now I know I should have pushed the "Lock" button. But I can't say that Toyota lied about it. My two old Subaru station wagons never EVER fishtailed in any conditions.

I'm not sure if anybody will see this but this has been exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much for posting it.
So the rav4 with the locking center dif will act most like an actual 4wd system minus low range. Probably good for up to intermediate off roading.
Only the Limited version of the 4Runner has the full-time 4WD. I'm trying to figure out what makes it different.
Not true. For example, in the 4th gen 4Runners, all V8s are full-time 4WD, while V6s are the selectable 2wd or 4WD. Doesn't matter the trim level.
Was this program given to salespeople at Toyota? Id love to get access. Its really well done!
I think you've done an excellent job. Thank you.
Thanks....now I know what 4wd features my RAV4 has.

I have the rav4.2 and want yo know more abt the 4wd on that. Anybody know where i can find some good info?
New Rav4 AWD is way better than the last few generation, even though the last few generation were amazing in snow. The 2019 model is even better.

Tell me about gas mileage
@@mynameis.....9179 I did, "The only major problem with both would be gas mileage".

J.D. Turner so you wouldn't recommend me to invest money on it?
Alex M. I dont think so. If you do, at least get a V6. The 4 cylinder is weak as hell.
If you're like me and you just need AWD for snow (Colorado) then you might consider Subaru. The standard AWD performs better than Toyota
excellent eplaination and easy to understand..tq for the uploader, share an informative technical..good job

Can you provide the link for the same tutorial as I need to understand the different levels of it. Please send the actual link so that I can study
Apply at your local Toyota dealership for a tech position. They pay you to learn this stuff.

You should look up "planetary gears' They lock/unlock in different combinations to change gear ratios and direct the power accordingly.
My 96 4 runner isn't full time
I think it has to be the Limited version. I'm trying to figure out why the Limited is full-time and the other versions aren't.
Thanks!

on demand awd it's not a full time awd...toyota lies about it.
