- After around 3 weeks of sailing, our ship arrived at the port of Acajutla, El Salvador for cargo discharging operations.
After completion, we then headed towards Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala.

I'm 38 Years Old Chief, And I Was Medically Retired From The Canadian Army in 2015. After Surgery To Repair My Broken Bits, I Went Out On The Road Trucking To Try And Find My New Career And Enjoyed It For The 7 Years I Was In Industry, But High Prices And Low Wages Forced Me Out In Early 2023. I Had Been Watching You For A Couple Years While I Was Out On The Road As Marine Engineering Was A Passion Of My Youth.
I Made The Decision In May of 2023 To Go Back To My Roots And Pursue That Long Lost Passion, And In September Of Last Year I Began My First Year As A Marine Engineering Student At The Nautical Institute.
Year 1 Finished Last Tuesday, And I Leave For My First Ship May 13th With That Passion Fully Reignited.

You take care of your men. Your men will take care of you. I have always stood up for my guys. Right or wrong. I take care of them.
I just listened to your leadership/managerial style. As someone who's been in the military, Chief I would have followed you. I believe in mission accomplishment and troop welfare. So if I know nothing about you, you going out of your way to get your crew snack, is all I need to know about you to follow you.
Agreed on all of this... This is definitely the best kind of leadership (unfortunately not often (enough) seen in the military

In the military you would still follow or be dealt with accordingly under the UCMJ. You dont have to like or agree with your Boss but you have to do what they say. ⚓️🇺🇸✌🏻🍻
I was dragged kicking and screaming into the military during the Vietnam war. I joined the Navy and now wouldn't take anything for the experience I had. Thanks to you and all of your crew. i would work for food to be working for you now.
I have two nephews just beginning their careers in the seafaring industry. Both have been trained in schools in the Philippines. They are excited about their futures. Your vlog posts are very informative for them. I enjoy your videos as it brings me fond memories of my days at sea.

It is always a pleasure to watch your voyages.
I am writing now, because I wanted to relate that when I was 18 years old I’ve started to work as maritime agency, an operator who used to deliver spare parts on board representing the shipowner in Brazil, where I am born and raised, São Paulo.
Today I am acting as operations operator, where I bring fertilizers to Brazil, but acting alongside with the charter party.
So, seeing both sides, and also yours, as protector, I really admire your job, and I really appreciate all the knowledgeable information you pass thru your videos, helping me to learn more and more, and grow up professionally from my side here.

Chief, with you I would enjoy going around the world. You ask no more than the job requires and I feel confident that the crew will do their best to get the job done. You don't come across as being above them but rather the guiding light to successfully finish a job. I bet yours was a happy ship.

Well Chief, you probably know the crew even better than the ship's Command.
The Captain is basically concerned about getting the ship from A to B.
You are the one that keeps the guys in line, keeps them working and keeps the scheduled maintenance on track.
Without your guidance and discipline, chaos will always be close by.
In fact, the sip's Command, depends on you. You are the main man, between command and what is expected and the crew.
You know which man is best suited for which task.
You work with them, eat with them, and then at times, scream and shout! Because you are the one to do that!
But, you seem humble and are willing to lower yourself to share a meal, have some laughs, and so on.

Another good one Chief I was an airline Capt (retired now) and always took care of my crew on the road, too.
I worked as a teenager on board of container ships, El Salvador and Guatemala was part of my first voyage back in 2007. Sometimes I look back at El Salvador with a smile.
A good boss is a good boss, on land or at sea. It's clear you take care of your team Chief and it shows in their attitude and performance. You are a great leader for your Team and your Vessel.

Chief, you are a good man. My wife works with many Pilipino nurses and they are great people. I was brought a flag to fly on the pole in my garden in the UK all the way from Boracay. I did cause a stir when I first hoisted the flag upside down. I was soon told to get it corrected to avoid a war lol. Love your content. All the best and safe journeys.
Watching this on my first solo afternoon shift as an electrician on a grain ship loading terminal... Had issues, learned a few things and hope things keep running for the rest of the shift

Acajutla! I spent a couple of months working out of there in 1975, on a seismic survey vessel, while mapping their offshore area for oil exploration. I was a young Ordinary Seaman back then, so I only cared about the bars and the young ladies I met there.😊 It sure has changed a lot since then; I don't recognize it anymore, looking at it on google maps. Of course that's true of most of the places we went back then! I really enjoy your channel, and wouldn't mind working a trip or two with you all, but those days are long gone. I'll re-live that time of my life watching you and your boys. Thanks!

Love your videos chief, I've been to El Salvador 3 times (from the UK) I've also worked in a power plant running boilers, turbines and diesel engines so your vids inside the engine room are very familiar to me. Respect for taking care of your crew.

It’s pretty difficult to have an opinion on your managerial skills based on your videos. After passing my MSc in Plymouth myself, I’ve been working in the shipping industry for over 30 years now. I love to watch your video’s as I can always learn from it.
The only thing I can see is the different ships in terms of type, age and maintenance. It’s not in your hands.
No judgement, no opinion, only respect as you always have to deal with conditions and circumstances as they are. I’ll take my hat off!!

I was going to ask if the low water levels were the reason you ship went to El Salvador by the Strait of Magellan but i answered my own question by doing the rough research to ask an intelligent question. Doing a rough measurement using Google maps it is about the same distance either way. Factor in the Canal toll and up to three weeks at anchor waiting for a canal appointment and going south around Argentina and Chile makes much more financial sense than sailing east to be able to go around Brazil. Although maybe not six months later during a South American winter. I really enjoy what you post. Thank you.
A long time ago I learnt that a boss/supervisor can't be friends with their staff. But, they can join in with the work that needs doing and make sure staff know what is happening. And the Chief does that really well. Good on ya mate.

Definitely different on the bulk tankers compared to the container ships. They seem to be in and out of port so quickly. Always on the move with no time to see or do anything. I know which one I would rather be on.
Scraping rust and repainting is tedious but necessary work. But landing fish and grilling them for dinner sounds like a nice reward! Thanks Chief.

Another very enjoyable video Chief! I miss my days at sea. Also went to Acajutla and Pto Quetzal, but over 30 years ago. In those days there were still a few of us 'foreigners' in the crew, although most were Filipinos. I was E/O. Now retired, in Leyte.

At 1:45 you can see at least two clam-shell cranes unloading the chief's ship, so perhaps it won't take forever. ;-)

Great video Chief! Question, how do you keep rice, which is naturally thirsty, dry when the ship is always in high humidity? I would assume that even with the doors closed humidity could still seep in there. Are there de-humidifiers in those cargo holds or are they just well sealed?
Never in the 42 years that I sailed (engine , now retired ) did any chief engineer treat us to pizza or snacks. Cheap skates. 😂 As I mentioned a coupled times, if I could go back in time, I'd sail on small bulk or juice carriers. Much less stress. Keep away from container ships (if you can )

Would love your take on how many times a ships propulsion systems fail.
If it’s something that happens many times a year, what can be done to fix it.
Personally, the ship hitting the bridge in Baltimore, well…. I’m not sure it wasn’t intentional, simply because of their short turn to starboard to guide it straight to the bridge pylon.
I hope I am way off base, however, I can also believe 1/2 of my theory is true.
It was explained on many channels, the currents are very unforgiving where they lost power and basically, once they lost power, they were screwed.
I can't remember where I read it, but the fact that Pacific Ocean facing ports from Mexico down to Central America are small is a remnant of Spanish control. The Spanish Empire had no need of big ports to the west, because everything coming out of or go to those colonies was going across the Atlantic.

Chief, when you all are fishing what do you put on the hook lines for bait to attract all the fish you enjoy come dinner time? I always enjoy your videos and wisdom you always share with us, y'all be & stay well.
Nothing actually. The hooks are like mini lures with reflective brush-like material designed to attract small fish. Some have glow-in-the-dark beads.
@@ChiefMAKOi Another thing I see in every video you've posted showing the crew members fishing is the smiles, laughter and joy on their faces and 'yours' as they are pulling in another fresh caught meal for the day, I can't thank you enough for sharing your 'exotic' type lives on board bulk & container ships throughout Earth's many oceans.
