    This is Absolutely the Best Video on the internet I have ever seen that shows how to do the CV joint procedure!!! I'm so happy I found this video. Simply Marvelous! I can't praise you enough for your excellent presentation. Excellent, by a perfectionist standard I'd say. I'm about to do a 96 Infiniti I30 and really hadn't seen any good videos. I can't make that statement anymore! Bravo!!!! Now I don't have to worry anymore about tearing up the cir-clip. That was what I was worried about.

    great tips, and youre welcome. you would not believe the amount of cv's im replacing now im working on landcruisers at a mine. 4 out of 5 cars need new ones and they have to be cut apart with an angle grinder

    mazdas are tops- ive got a 2012 mazda2! take the whole shaft out, put it in a vice with the cv pointing down and give it a big couple of hits with a hammer. if that doesnt do it try putting the shaft inside a metal tube longer than the shaft, holding the cv at the top, lift it up and smash it down. if that doesnt work you can cut it off with an angle grinder and a 1mm cutting disk, but it takes a careful hand. all of these involve taking it right out im afraid. have fun

    Thank you. Beginning to work on my VW due to economy. Taking out an axle, but all videos are for axle with a sealed end. No explanation for how to pack the grease for mine with an open end. Your video is perfect.

    depends how the circlip goes. the ones i deal with on landcruisers at work now cant be removed by hammering them off, you have to use an angle grinder and cut them off. but yes a hammer is the most conventional method. the other way is to insert the long shaft into a longer tube, hold the short cv end and smash it down so the long shaft comes out in the tube

    I make sure to put a bit of grease on the circlip before trying to install it, just to make it stay where I need it. Works well for installing the axle to the transmission too I've found.
    This was a great video on repairing a CV vs just trashing it. Thank you!

    Is this procedure the same for all cars? Are all CV joints the same? I have a subaru that has been shaking when i turn it. Unfortunately my daughter took it out recently and it almost grinds. I think i have to replace the whole axle now.

  • @BMTroubleU
    @BMTroubleU 12 років тому

    the procedure is not identical on all cars but is pretty similar, and generally all CV setups are the same but there are always exceptions and i cant say ive worked much on subarus. shaking on turns doesnt really sound indicative of a CV joint issue though- sounds more like sway bar links, tie rod ends or bushes of some description. dont change anything you dont have to, just get it checked out by a reputable mechanics

    what type of grease are you using???

  • @norakat

    Shouldn’t the boot be about 25-30% full of grease?

    Maybe I missed it in your video, but how did you get the old grease out of the CV joint, and what did you use to clean everything up with?

      I used brake cleaner in a can. It worked well.

    Kalau bersihkan sisa gemuk di cv joint pakai solar bisa gak yaa??

    • @BMTroubleU
      @BMTroubleU 2 роки тому

      ya Anda dapat menggunakan solar sebagai bahan pembersih yang efektif. tetapi pastikan Anda menggunakan pembersih kontak dan udara bertekanan setelahnya untuk menghilangkan sisa solar sebelum mengemas ulang dengan gemuk baru

    Thanks for the advice on the setup for the especially split clip, that can be very frustrating if you don't know the clip works with the joint.

    Lobro is brand name owned by GKN. Calling a Rzeppa constant velocity joint a lobro (sic) is like calling all 4 wheel drive SUV's Jeeps. Out of respect for his engineering genius, if it is a Rzeppa joint then it should be called a Rzeppa constant velocity joint. Other unversal joints can be configured into a constant velocity, but does not make them the same. For example: Constant pressure combustion (Brayton cycle, mostly used by gas turbines), compression ignition (Diesel using a modified Otto cycle), spark ignition (Otto cycle) all are intenal combustion. They are not interchangeable either. (Wankel uses the Otto cycle.)

      sweet as. google was a bit confused on its terms apparently. ive changed more of these in v8 landcruisers than i can remember. using words like lobro for a rzeppa joint is called a proprietory eponym- like saying youre doing the hoovering instead of the vacuum cleaning. thanks for putting me straight mate
