  • Hammock camping in the woods with a bit of wild fishing for trout thrown in. A look at the hobo pocket fishing kit and other lightweight options to take with you back packing. Camp cooking on an open fire and a look at the British army 24 hour ration pack. All this and more with me talking shite as usual.

      Twit twoo twit twit twit twoo twit twoo , doesn't write as good as it sounds, we have a few around our way, less so now there's a housing estate been built locally. I'm hope'in the owls arnt effected to bad through the loss of there hunting grounds. It only takes a few small changes to effect the eco system of certain wildlife. Some don't care, twits they are , twits they are . Peace ur way bud.

    Awesome video as always Damien mate : ) I look forward to your vids coming up in my feed. That survival fishing kit looked spot on. And fair play to you on catching that fish and then cooking it on a fire you've started the traditional way! : ) Can't get a much better feeling than that!
    And the British army ration packs are spot on, i bought a 10 pack off ebay for £90 over a year ago, its keeping me in camping food for a very long time haha : )
    Cracking stuff mate, love the dual angle filming aswell, i can appreciate how much effort you have to put into it buddy.
    All the best mate, Jay

      +GoonieBushcraft Thanks, Jay., the ration packs are great value for the price, there are a few sweet things that I'm not too keen on but they are designed to deliver quick energy which include simple carbs like sugars from the boiled sweets to more complex carbs like pasta. I was spoiled for choice and there was enough food in one to last me two days easily.

    With the hobo fishing rig. I found if you strip 3 to 4 feet of line off the spool. Then point the spool towards the direction you want and swing the line in the other hand you can cast pretty far. I also added circle hooks for easier hook sets. I've caught up to 15lb striped bass. Pan fish all day long. This system works! I really dig the tarp. Totally enjoy the vids.

    • @Fell_Wanderer
      @Fell_Wanderer  8 років тому

      +muddnyreye A longer line off the reel before casting would increase distance as the momentum of swing of the cast (centrifugal force) would go further

    Nice one again Damien. Looks like a cracking spot you've found there and will hopefully dry up a little in the summer. I've been using the army rat packs for ages. One 24 hour pack can be stretched out over three days if you're careful and eat wisely. I take em when I go kayaking on an over nighter to save space in the boat.
    Keep the vids coming mate, they are more than entertaining!!

    Hey. Another entertaining video! :) Been watching you from the start.. I'm out there a lot too. love it in the wild.. been to few places.. Just not that far north.. This year though for sure! I use various set ups. Mainly enjoy the VERY basic! Good to test yourself out! Makes you dig deep inside yourself and find out who you are :) When I used the hammock in the hills in winter. I put my multimat blow up air mat under me to use as insulation and comfort.. Works well.. Plus it spreads out the hammock so your not so lob sided! Going back being on the ground now! Feels better to me. With open tarp. See the views stars etc. 1 love Mr Wanderer ! ;)

      +thegeordiefellwalker Thank you, I do like the ration packs and could easily be spread over 2 days not just 24 hours. Looks like Stevie Wonder sewed that! lol. It wasn't bad at all. I can't even do that much. It's really weird, I can do just about anything except sew. I do fine with a needle and thread but for some reason I freeze at a machine. Crazy! It's like my hands are too big but I'm an artist with a brush and some oil paint. Seriously. My degree is in art. I bring paints and canvas roll and my gear and I go. When I can't get much painting done I mainly photograph what I have in mind and finish it up later on in my studio. I've been sick for a couple of days now and the thought of eating that "mexican tuna" , oh no! lol. What made it Mexican the yellow colour? There was a good stash of food in that box. All the wildlife was hungry around you, they smelt the delicious food and want some! I always leave leftovers for the foxes. I have some that live in the forests behind my home (I live at the end of a giant land trust, so only animals only a few farmers for neighbours) I leave them leftovers from dinner time to time over by the back feeders. My farmer neighbour feeds them and he laughs because they leave all his free range chickens and everything alone. Worked out well so I help out. I guess his idea was he'd keep the predators in the area stuffed and they leave his animals alone and it works! He's never killed anything and nothing of his gets killed. I buy his eggs (I don't think that's really killing though). Awesome idea with the garlic and that fish. Very blissful video! Enjoyed it completely.

It's amazing this has had over 7 thousand views, I started watching when you had 250 a few years ago! Felt canny star struck when I met you today down the river with the dog, didn't know what to say to the main man....should have got your autograph! I'm away in a couple of weeks to North Yorkshire, but would love to camp in the woods down the river. They're looking amazing at the moment. Looking forward to your next trip, Adam

      +Geordie Wanderer Hi Adam, I've got some expensive fishing rods and still prefer the inexpensive 6 foot telescopic when it comes to a fishing trip along the woods on such a small river, the action ain't as good or strong as a 2 piece, but have caught many a fish on her over the years so is my go to setup being light and compact. Thanks for the kind words, ATB, Damian.

    A couple of years ago i took my rod (Lidl with reel) with me to Sweden, hadn't fished since i was eight. Loved it and caught one small fish. Didn't eat it though.

      +Romin van der Meiden Lidl and Aldi get some decent fishing gear in from time to time and I own a reel bought from one of those stores which does the job well for the price I paid. +madDog Bushcraft Pete, the water is still cold especially up on the high ground, we are still getting blasted with cold air from the arctic so feels more like the sting in the tail of winter. Fish are sluggish when cold so are hard to tempt as they aren't eating much, their metabolism is slow. Wild brownies are educated and hard to tempt unlike the fish from my local river, the big fish I caught wasn't wild, just a last 2 season's stockie but had a yellow flank meaning he has been in the river a while. ATB, Damian.

    G'day Damien lad, top bloody vid was that mate, good effort. I would just say this, only in the UK could some prat in the fisheries department outlaw a bloody hobo line and setup. It's no bloody different from a rod and reel, same concept. How these cretins make a living is beyond me lad. Cheer'o and keep em coming. Regards Moose Down Under.

    • @Fell_Wanderer
      @Fell_Wanderer  8 років тому

      +mounty27 Thanks Moose, in England you need a rod licence to fish as well as a permit. A hand line isn't covered by the rod licence so is illegal. Pocket fishing kits are very effective in the right hands and even though a rod is easier to fish with, I suspect the powers that be don't want them catching on as back in the day they would be used to poach fish from wealthy land owners by the peasants so are not allowed.

    hi damo the problem you got with the hammock is yours is symmetrical so you want it fairly tight and sleep straight, if you want to sleep diagonally with 30 degree hang you need a asymmetrical hammock which are defo comfier m8 if that helps

    • @Fell_Wanderer
      @Fell_Wanderer  8 років тому

      +mick skinner
      +mick skinner Surely a 30 degree line on both sides of the hammock is still symmetrical?.. pulled tighter the angle becomes less but still symmetrical, or am I missing something?..

      ·

    • @Nofixedabode859
      @Nofixedabode859 8 років тому

      +Fell Wanderer DD tarps are symmetrical so they av to be tight to get a straight lay there not wide enough to lay straight at a angle at 30deg that's why you need a assymetrical to lay straight at 30 deg there wider so you get that diagonal lay, makes like warbonnet and Hennessey are good ones, with yours your better off keeping it fairly tight or you end up like a banana you know wat I mean

      +MrSkooty1968 Thanks Scott, I've seen your firesteels and wood working skills mate they are very good. You get more satisfaction from making our own gear. You never know when those hobo kits will come in handy, I never feel comfortable unless I've got a knife or means to make fire with me at all times so have a small kit with the 5 C's in me car all the time.

    • @Skooty68

      +Fell Wanderer Yeah,i have fire kits everywhere,and plenty of firesteels as you can imagine,always handy to keep a small ferro rod,striker and tinder with your hobo kit
