    Speaking of cash registers I have actually resorted to standing behind one after busting butt on my shop and not seeing results. I consumed myself with worry & once I told myself, “just relax and take a break from your shop and just let it exist,” I finally got some sales. Still behind the cash register and my shop still isn’t where I want it to be but I am not giving up 💪

    Thank you, Kara, for bright ideas! It encourages me a lot. You are absolutely right, we need to use "slow" time for improvements whether it is for our shop, producs, house or even for ourselves.❤

    November and December, in my experience, are prime christmas shopping months. The buying of stockings, trees, lights, tinsel, holiday candy, gifts, ornaments, baking supplies, you name it. So if nov/dec is slow on the cake scene, it's probably because of christmas shopping. For those with "cold season" verticals, business is usually pretty good through the fall/winter/spring and summer is the slowest whereas the wedding/cake verticals peaks during summer.

      November and December are engagement season, not wedding season!

    I actually LOVE updating photos for my product based shop. At least as much as making my product. ❤ Good to hear there are people who don’t love it; maybe that’s a new market for me to provide photos as a service to other makers.

    I had a “feeling” that September was very low on orders for me. Then I checked stats and I’m only 13% down from last year, and I had my shop closed at the beginning of September this year. So it’s not bad as I thought 🤷‍♀️

    The danger is to freak out and changing erratically your listing tags / titles and basically messing everything up. Been there done that, bad idea! Royal Mail is increasing sharply their letter/large letter stamp prices, so my main focus on this quiet period is to find the cheapest packaging suppliers and buy in bulk. If I make changes to my listings, it's only on those which there is no or very little traffic and zero sale. I have also reorganized my office/workspace. Let's hope for a better Xmas than last year - we had mail strike in the UK...

    Okay I’m going to be vulnerable here about my slow time. My goal this year has been to increase per order value (read: I’m increasing prices). As of today, beginning of Q4 of 2023 I’m DOWN 16% yoy in total revenue, DOWN 38% in total orders (meaning my POV is actually up). And I’m UP 4% in visits but DOWN 6% in total views.
    All that said, I’d love a video or discussion on raising prices in general as well as looking at current market conditions and if / how that’s affecting raising prices.

    This may be a good topic for another podcast, but what to do you do when you're on the brink of being overwhelmed?
    I was cruising along at the end of July with 10 sales that month and 10 sales the previous month. I have a full-time job so I was kinda happy with that rate of sales. Then August came long. 33 sales. Ok, that's great and all but with a full-time job, it was fair amount of work to keep up. I actually had to ship some orders late. I messaged my customers and they were all very understanding so all was good there. Then September happened. 27 days in and I've had 43 sales. Now I'm beginning to wonder how I can keep doing this.
    It's counter-intuitive to temper sales (short of going into vacation mode). I mean, why did you dive in to Etsy if you didn't want to make money? I can increase my processing time, again, but what is the tipping point where you really kill your sales?
    Like I said, this may be a great topic for another podcast. What are the different options, on Etsy, to tap the brakes without killing all your momentum?

    Awesome thoughts in the video. I will need to change some tags to add a season because l have that ability and need the coverage.
    I do have a question: so l noticed someone stole my pictures. (I know it could happen anywhere) but what is etsy doing to help protect us if anything? Are we allowed watermarks finally or is that off the table? (Just a dumb question I'm sure you've mentioned about before. )
    Thank you, again.. great content. ❤

      You've always been able to watermark on Etsy, they don't like ti because it brands your shop, not them, but too bad. That won't stop photo thieves, though. You can file a DMCA against the shops that have stolen the photos, but they're experienced in getting around that these days. It's worth doing it, though, to establish that the photos is yours. You might have to go through and take legal action if they counterclaim, though.

    What did you mean about having to remove text off of photos? Does that affect the algorithm or something?

    • @KaraBuntin
      @KaraBuntin  Рік тому +2

      No, it's jsut that since they changed the photos to square in the shop homepage text got cut off and people couldn't read it!

    What did Etsy do to listing photos with text?!?

    • @KaraBuntin
      @KaraBuntin  Рік тому +1

      When they made the ones in your shop square it shops off any text in the edges, if there is any. So you have to redo those if you want the text to show up.

      Etsy is pushing shops with sales right now because of the holiday shopping season. Try running a low-discount sale to see if it improves your visibility. 10% is fine to try it out, you don't have to do a high percentage.

      @@KaraBuntin I have 10% off on whole store but still only 40ish visitors now maybe run 1$ ads?

    • @KaraBuntin
      @KaraBuntin  Рік тому

      @@Don19941 You can try that, but I would try sending traffic to your shop first. Or at least at the same time that you're running ads. The cost of ads can add up quickly, and $1 day isn't very much, so that might not work well. You can try it, though.
