Well done. I find puzzles based in reality are more enjoyable than just assembling a pretty image. Famous artworks are fun, but like you said, paintings can be challenging. I like the use of your calipers for measuring piece shapes . . . why hadn't I ever thought of that 🤓? I might try a small pair of dividers for their ergonomics. Excellent video, thanks. 👍👍
Hello Drew! Haha you liked that calister use! It’s definitely worth trying them, better than trying every piece over and over instead of it 😂 thanks for the great comment again mate, i really appreciate it and looking forward to hearing from you again soon!
Hey Ric I puzzle very similar to you in terms of the nuances in shape and colour to texture on tabs, corners or transversing the piece to continue to adjacent piece. I would also have a preference for this style of image over a gradient or single colour with no texture. I get my ‘single colour’ joy from sky, meadows, or bodies of water which provides the additional interest of texture. I can legitimately say this too as I have tried gradients etc. another great video many thanks.
Hello thegoodchicken! Wow so nice to know im not alone! This is incredibly awesome. Thanks for being such an avid subscriber! Big cheers, to the colour nuances! 🧩☺️
Today I learned about a new innovation called caliper-assisted puzzling or CAP for short 😂. I love it when you take us out on an outing to visit local attractions. Very fun and informative. I think your glueing technique is genius and I'm with you on timing my solve times, I just want to enjoy the experience and not worry about time. Plus I'm usually listening to a podcast or some music and I'll often stop puzzling just to listen or sing along. Cheers!
Hello fellowpuzzler! We are so in tune then! We couldnt be more similar when it comes to puzzles. So cool to know that im not alone with timing too 😂 and hey the calister CAP Oh my! Seems like we are onto something here!
Hi Ric! You asked if other people become more attuned to color subtleties as a puzzle progresses. I suppose it depends on the puzzle. Yes, although sometimes I have trouble sorting gradients. Especially when my perception of the color changes depending on what other pieces are next to them!
Hi MrFiddler’ thats such a great point you have raise! I suppose it does depend on the puzzle and the piece types indeed. That comes to show how much it varies from one puzzler to another isnt it! Thank you again for your valuable feedback!
Nice picture, but i have to say that over the past few years, Holdson jigsaws seem to have become looser in their fit than previously, which is a shame. I find it hard to move sections without them coming apart whereas they used to hold together quite well. But they do have consistently lovely images. I am drawn to pictures and puzzles that have bodies of water in them, which is odd as I don't think of myself as a 'water' person at all.
Hi Paisley! Yes i agree, they are fairy loose, particularly now that new puzzles can easily be waved around once finished eh! But i agree with you as well that the selection of images and the print quality still stands the test of time. Haha i know what you mean about the not relating to water, but loving water related puzzles. I love fighting PlayStation games but im a very pacific and laid back person, go figure! 😁 thanks again for your valuable feedback!
Great video, Ric. I really appreciate puzzles like this - not only do they look like pieces of art, but they really are. I have a couple I’m saving to hang, but I’m hesitant to make any permanent decision. I like the idea of using butcher paper for the backing. I’ve also seen people using painters tape. What I’d really like is to find a glue that would “plump” the puzzle so the cut lines aren’t so visible. I guess I just need to experiment with some different glues. Any thoughts/suggestions?
Good day Murphy! just been on holiday at an off grid location, apologies for the long delay in replying! glad you see the same thing about this kind of puzzle, each piece seem to be a tiny artwork aren't they! I guess the trick is to experiment with the glue methods indeed! this paper works perfectly for me, but im sure if you experiment you may find the methods that suit your taste and needs, of course! pls do let me know if you try different gluing methods! hahah I dont why you would hide the joins / pieces though hehe unless the image is far more important than the puzzle. :-) Thanks mate for your feedback, great to have your input in the videos!
Hey man great video! I had a quick question, I saw one of your comments from 6 months ago about google ads being bad for your channel. I am in a similar situation as you and I was wondering if you’re still using google ads or avoiding them currently I’m just seeing if there is a way to save the channel thank you!
Hello there! Thanks for checking in too, really nice. I don’t recommend using ads at all, or the promotion here in the yt studio! The videos get suggested to every single human on earth and everyone who is not in the niche and therefore it literally causes the video promoted to be jammed down to a viewer who will not only watch it for the few seconds (= zero retention) and will likely to thumb down too because they didnt want your vid in the first place. I would use ads if you just want the views on a well established channel, not in a small or new one as yt is figuring out who your viewers might be!! Hope that helps!
@@RicPuzzles did you at one point use ads on your channel to grow? I did for a while and just recently discovered the mistake I made of using ads, and if so how did you recover from it thank you so much for your response!
hey there! thanks again for the reaching out, all good. I did use it for a few weekends in the last few months. The first thing I noticed was that the retention went from 90%, even the long videos of 30mins + were being watched almost entirely, then suddenly they dropped to only 20-30 seconds. I think that after a while you do recover if the content is decent. It won't kill the channel entirely - it will just stop suggesting to new views. If you have a good community built around your channel, it may just stay stagnant or with very little growth overtime. Having the support from loyal subscriber is a key element for me. as they will tell others, share etc. I think a few of my subs they share my videos on Discord and Facebook which has a massive Puzzle community, so that gives me huge exposure to the right viewers. that guess bypasses the YT algorithms or the lack of it.

I stopped posting years ago, it’s under @ricstation (gotta work that out) and i know it’s tough man, particularly in the gaming niche.
@@RicPuzzles thank you so much!
You are most welcome brother. You know i have a gaming channel too eh? I stopped posting years ago, it’s under @ricstation (gotta work that out) and i know it’s tough man, particularly in the gaming niche. But you seem like a really nice guy, bring that personality in and you will be a hit im sure. Just remember to not mix content, like gaming and cars or music and gaming. It wont work.
There's something about you. I don't know what it is, but definitely I can see something in you.
Oh thanks! I’ll take that as a compliment 😁
@@RicPuzzles It is, Ricardo. 🤝🏻
@@DonVizcacho😁 thanks Don!!
