It's incredible how Bruno Ganz can't even get rid of his Swiss accent when he speaks English. He certainly can't when he speaks German German... Makes the Stasi-storyline even more implausibly. He's the German Russell Crowe, master of all (or no) accents
Just watched this. Kermode is completely on the money about Philip K. Dick. Starts off like Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said, ends up like We Can Remember It For You Wholesale, all done through the whole post-Bourne aesthetic. Oh, and the dialogue was godawful.
Post-Bourne aesthetic really is a thing, isn't it? I can point to Ludlum's writing for setting this tone, that forced overnight all the rest to respond.
@rick694uk "I would only listen to" - deh-deh-deh - "grown weary" - deh-deh-deh - "annoying" - deh-deh-deh - "expensive bowl of mayo". There you go. We got there in the end.
I saw Taken after Mark's review of it, and it was what it was... Neeson killing everyone, which was ok i s'pose, but then not ok at all as a worthwhile movie in todays world. Unknown sounds alot more interesting to me, but then the good Dr. concedes Taken is better!! just... i don't know what to think.
@Lostdog171 It wasn't supposed to be funny so in that respect it failed but it was just the way Liam Neeson just shot everyone as if this is how the world views the typical American. I do have a very dark sense of humour though so some scenes, however unfunny they were supposed to be, were pure hilarity to me!
@RuhBuhJuh1 Liam Neeson is such a wooden actor, he sounds like he is just reading lines with emphasis instead of being the character. He seems so static even when he is moving, he's just not exciting to watch on screen.
The film delivers terrific acting with its intriguing premise & great direction, however the film starts to lose its act after an hour due to its muddy script. (60%) (3/5 stars) (mixed)
This guy is so pretencious has zero ideas on how to rate a movie guy litrally suggested Taken and Unknown are very much same other than Taken had more smiles WTF never again go to Stuckman for movie reviews
I would only listen to a Simon Mayo show because it has Dr K on it, as I know Mayo from the 80's as a little man with a silly name. But I've grown weary of his laconic, or bored, contribution to the film reviews and his "we got there in the end" snub at the end of the review was annoying! I won't stop viewing the reviews, but Mayo should understand that I, for one, would watch them if Dr K were talking to a bowl of mayo. So, Simon, for BBC licence payers, you are a very expensive bowl of mayo!

'Here's a joke? Here's a clip!'
I love Simon's reaction to that

02.33 NO, DON'T TURN TO HIM !!!!!
@rick694uk You just don't understand their chemistry. Kermode needs someone to play off and Mayo does it perfectly.

The first time I saw this I thought it was garbage.... the second time I realized it's kind of awesome.
NOTHING IS BETTER THEN TAKEN!!
@RuhBuhJuh1
Including Schindler's List?!
Liam Neeson is like Jeff Goldblum. Not the best actor, but somehow I find him extremely entertaining.

@Needham90 Okay, Schindler's List is a good exception. But in Taken, he's balls, in Batman Begins, he's crap, in Kingdom of Heaven, he's crap.
I thought Unknown was too silly at the end.
@Studio4474 Exactly! He's one of those actors who think they can just turn up and act. Not for me thanks.

Liam Neeson = pass
Taken = shit.
Unknown = Who cares
Maybe dont watch trailers for a change...i never do
leave the mayo out of my blt please
I really, really don't rate Liam Neeson as an actor at all. It seems in every film he's in he's total bollocks.
How dare you
this movie was such a disappointment.
