Tibet and the Himalayas: Rumtek Monastery

Rumtek monastery, also called the Dharma Chakra Centre, is the largest Buddhist monastery in Sikkim and is the main seat-in-exile of His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa of the Kargyu sect of Tibetan Buddhism. In this episode of our Tibet and the Himalayas series, Ven. Kelsang Nyima, the abbot of the monastery provides a glimpse into the monastery’s background including the special bond between the successive Karmapas and the Kings of erstwhile Sikkim.
