Such a cool idea for a video! Can't wait to see the FD one too! As you said, the shifting on the new Dura Ace is slightly faster, since it's going through an extra cog, but I think the biggest difference is, as your wife said, shifting under load. Either way, both are extremely impressive. Most people's reaction is similar to yours, that the new one feels a lot more impressive.
Great idea jon both looked great and very quick changes. Im thinking 9170 looked smoother than the newer one but that could of been the chain bouncing more..... but I wouldn't refuse any of them as I'm running 105 so this is awesome for me to see. Take care Jon 👍
Great video 📹 and team work 👏 that one cog difference does makes it look like its slower but 9170 there's only a micro second in it again Great video. you wouldn't get GCN doing a test like that Great UA-cam channel 👍
Great video and effort to show shifting. Will look forward to the next one to show front shifting. Would also like to see your thoughts and possibly differences in ride data between your madone and emonda. Considering one of these for next year and would appreciate hearing your experience with both bikes and how they perform in comparison to each other. Just watched your previous video on this topic. Not sure if any updates on the new models you have. Thanks
Thanks for sharing! A little detail: from the specsheets, I read that the older DA RD-R9150 max. sprocket teeth count would be 30 (instead of 32 that are mentioned in the video).
Nice video John. I looked at the slow motion videos of the shifting and even with the extra cog and the narrow chain and more tightly spaced cassettes the 9170 was still getting to the 11 sprocket quicker than the 9270 was getting to the 12 sprocket. In all the videos where the extra cog at the end of the cassette is not taken into account the 9170 seems slightly quicker and smoother. Bottom line is the two groups are very very close. Certainly the feel of the 9270 is something that I can’t comment on but you obviously prefer the feel of that. Will be interested to see the video on the front derailer and will expect the 9270 to be clearly superior.
Do you find you need to un-pair and re-pair your hammerhead after each ride? With 9100 all I had to do was hit one of the shifter and would pair but with 9200 nothing seams to trigger a signal to the Hammerhead. Great set of videos!
One thing I'd like to see (but not sure how you'd test it) is to see how well it can handle interference. Maybe run a ton of wireless devices right near the derailers, or put your router right by the shifters?
Great effort comparing 👏 very interesting. Feel is a factor that a video doesn't have but the older shifting in the slow motion looked quicker to me but with the extra cog on the newer one it looks hard to separate them! Is it really worth the massive investment.... would i lose a race because of it.... not so sure 😉👍
To close to call with unforeseen variables, I'm on mechanical I'd love to see the same thing between mech and electric. You maybe could film it one at a time spinning at the same cadence and just sink the clips.
Great video. Very good results based in your garage. I can't imagine the result being any different in a lab. Well done. I'm actually surprised that the 11sp is shifting into the lowest cog before the 12sp does from the top gear. Obviously you are losing out 1 cog on the 11 but in a race condition if you needed your 11 tooth cog you'd be quicker in the old system but in reality you wouldn't be going from the 28 to the 11 that quickly. Shimano say the shifts are 58% quicker. I wonder how they measure it? I'm more interested in the brake improvements rather than the gears. Can't wait for the front derailleur test. Thanks once again for a great video.
Even I did not see much difference, efforts you spent preparing this video worth a "like". I have Ultegra Di2 bike and going to buy bike with new Ultegra Di2, but I'm not going to make a video 😀 like this.
Hey Jon have you ever considered adding an oversized pulley wheel system in lieu of the OEM shimano? Just curious if you ever figured if you get your bang for your buck on those things!!??
Best wife ever. She’s a keeper bro!
yes she is!!
Thanks we needed this! Love the dynamic between you and your wife! Can’t wait for the next video!
thanks!!
2 hour effort deserves a thumbs up and comment. Well done mate. Also your relationship with the mrs is so endearing.
thanks bro, appreciate it

Thx so much. I am going to do this video for sure
Cool vid. Thanks for that. Shimano rules!

Did you file a bug with hammerhead?
No, I have not had any issues with that at all
Thumbs up for the effort.
thank you

Of course, all “interference” would have to be in the same band(s) as the derailleurs. Good idea, though.
@@michaelstoecker4178 Yeah, same or near band I believe it it was strong enough
This is a great idea, I will see what I can come up with

LOL, I agree, thx man!
I like how you made the wife get on the floor and you got to just shift the bikes lol
To close to call with unforeseen variables, I'm on mechanical I'd love to see the same thing between mech and electric. You maybe could film it one at a time spinning at the same cadence and just sink the clips.
I will try this for sure, thx bro
imo same shift speed
Great video , 🇬🇧🚴♀️
thanks man!!

Thx so much bro, front derailleur vid coming soon
So whats the final weight of R9270 group set versus R9170?
On the bike it was nearly identical
Hahaha Family Business - Brilliant :D
LOL yes!
Shimano dura ace series groupset have a 3X crankset.?

Your wife is a real superhero.Thx for this fun video 👌
yes she is. thank you!!
VS 9100 please
Yea pretty damn even considering one is 12 speed in the other 11
agreed!
The levels of innuendo.....
😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆
Your wife is astounding for participating in this 🙂🙏💛👌
yes she is!! 🙏
Hey Jon have you ever considered adding an oversized pulley wheel system in lieu of the OEM shimano? Just curious if you ever figured if you get your bang for your buck on those things!!??
i don't think they are worth the money. Otherwise all the pros would have then
How many meals out did that cost you?
LOL
Great comparison and Duo effort looking fwd to the front mech vid
thanks
👍 i’m surprised no one is asking you to squeeze the down tube yet after the durians video:)
Lol
Chain ramps
You getting funky
Lol
You need to compare it with mechanical, it will be the fastest, especially front shifting 👍
true!
I hope to find a wife like yours one day.
It’s definitely not as fast as shimano says it is
I agree, I was surprised
class lol. i'd love you to call your wife by her name though!
+1 For the Wife :)
👍
