    Great video! I'm making one for my students. And for those who asks about the difficulty in seeing where you want to cut. Make the last piece of the sled have a wider hole and then cover it with a transparent plastic sheet. It makes the saw move easier and you can see the where your cut will go. Thanks for this wonderfull instruction.

    Brother, from Venezuela a fraternal greeting. Indeed, these ideas are a source of inspiration in our context where we have little access to technology for the use of important tools and are of permanent use. Thank you for making life less insufferable. Affectionately yours

    Very inspiring - I would consider making the bottom of the long slide out of transparent acrylic in order to be able to see markings on the wood to be cut...

      If you remove the jigsaw sled, place your workpiece and clamp it down with the sled again you know where the cut will be, you could also install a ruler in the base board as an improvement.

    I enjoyed this video so much. I just found you and was really goo, goo eyed the whole time. You just about have all your power tools homemade. So economical!
    I have to give you max props man. So many woodworkers with high end equipment and you just simply do it with such ingenuity. Love it.
    Count me in as a subscriber.
    I don't know who are the idiots that gave you thumbs down, shame on them for doing so. And the music was a welcome sound, not overbearing and loud. You're a jem man. Keep it coming.

    Very nice indeed. I don't know if I bother if I had a circular saw Tho..
    I see he did as well for the drill and for other tools.
    You are a Genius Sir.
    Now I need to find how to make something similar for my jigsaw without the requirements of circular saws or other high tech tools.
    I'm very impressed.
    Thanks for your video.

    Excellent to cut at a random position. But you get trouble if you want to cut THE position. You cant see the marks on the target. You should cut a wider slot at the blade for visual purposes (position the target to the right place).

    I appreciate what you have made but I need to know that How do you measure the bottom wood under the jigsaw? How do you know where to cut the highlighted wood? I mean cutting a rough wood is ok but if I am making a drawer then I need to cut exact measured wood? So I am little bit confused here....bcuz the underneath wood is hidden under your jigsaw so how do you know you are cutting on the exact marked line??

    Plexiglass could be placed on the saw's slide base to see the cutting area more easily.?. A narrow strip in the middle, just where the saw blade passes, the rest wood. This would avoid scratching the plexiglass too much

  • @davidbowser2040
    @davidbowser2040 7 років тому +6

    Make the saw frame jig out of fairly heavy CLEAR Plexiglass so you can see the wood you are cutting . You can not see it with the jig you made. But other then that it is a good unit.

    •  7 років тому +1

      You can see the cutting line if you extend the center of the guide a few millimeters

    • @davidbowser2040
      @davidbowser2040 7 років тому

      I mean I drew the cutting line on the piece to be cut, I tried to line it up in the slot of the saw holding jig. It was very hard to see. SO I made the cutting jig out of 1/4 inch plexiglass. That way you can see through it and it helps in lining up the cutting line.

    VERY good tutorial and down to the point.
    I like your videos because it shows how to do something with very simple tools and not like other UA-camrs that uses expensive equipment to do similar things!!!
    One thing I will point out (positive criticism) is that you should number your videos so we know what you did first. For example, we saw you using your drill press so you must have done that first. UA-cam play list does not show the list in order of what you have posted.

    usta eline sağlık. bir şey sormak istiyorum; yaptığın kılavuz ahşap, dolayısıyla altına koyduğun keseceğin ahşabın neresini keseceğini nasıl hesap ediyorsun. kılavuz şeffaf olsa, keseceğin ahşabı neresinden kesmen gerektiğini görürsün. bu sorunu nasıl aşıyorsun?

    Excellent! But how can we see the cutting mark we made on the board?

      You can align your cutting mark with the slit in the base board before clamping it in place with the jigsaw track.

    Just spent hours creating a less than perfect copy. If I had table saw, a router bit, a miter saw, etc. Why would I need to make this bc all the other tools do what I need - do a straight perfect cut w my jigsaw, the only saw I have.

      FWIW what you're experiencing is similar to me, and is also what machinists in the 19th century had to face. To build a precision tool, you need a tool of slightly less precision. It's not quite a chicken and egg problem, it's just an iterative process. My first jigs were sloppy and took forever to make because I didn't have anything to work from, but they were good enough to build better replacements. After 3-4 rounds you should have sufficiently exact versions. If you don't want to go through all of that work you can buy more commercial power tools, a route I took with a drill press rather than building my own. Good luck.
