Sesame Street - E e...see me

- I'm posting this classic S.S. cartoon because it was highly requested. In fact, a couple people begged me to post it. This, along with the "O" cartoon, is very nostalgic to me. Eerie Indian music accompanies the cartoon.

This music has haunted me for years (I even remember where I was when I saw this and what the room looked like). I thought I would never see this clip again. My heart dropped and my head hurt when I saw this here. Super flood of emotion and nostalgia. Thanks for sharing!
That's really beautiful, I'm so happy for you.❤
Yes. I looked and looked for this amazing clip. Thank you so much
Imagine hand-drawing one minute of awesome animation that lives on 50 years after it was produced and still enchants. I love this so hard.
I have been walking around whistling this tune for 45 years now.
me too
Still brings tears to my eyes.....
What can I say? This is one of the first animated segments that I recall with infinite fondness. I loved the music and I wanted to be the kid on the eagle flying away from the bullies and the real world. I sure wish things were more like they were. I wish that eagle would find me again and take me back to my happy place.
Peaceful yet haunting.
Wow, brings me back to those strange cartoons from the 70's/80's, fragmented and euphoric, when I was dreaming and awake all at the same time.
isnt that just the sweetest thing? over the years i tried to remember this music and the animation. it was always there. to see it again is so moving. sweetly melancholic...more than anything these things shape the child and make the person you will be.
This song has stayed on my mind since the early 70s ,thank you for posting this
This clip evokes so much emotion from what I've been reading in the comments. What wonderful memories people have been sharing! There is something so pure about this clip it moves me deeply.
Vintage Sesame Street = Genuises on overdrive
I am 46 years old....so glad you posted this...we had the best children's television. I can't say that at all for the stuff they put out for today's children. I will copy all vintage 70's-80's Sesame Street episodes and show them to my grandchildren.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!
This is one of my favorite clips from Sesame Street. The memory of it, along with the music and dreaminess of it takes me back to my childhood. Ah, the innocence of those days.
I might have been among the masses requesting this myself, had I not completely forgotten about it till today! I'll never forget again. So tranquil and dreamy.
It's just one of those things you never forget as a child. 50 Plus years later. Still remember,
This song has been rotating on my my mind's playlist carousel ever since I first heard it as a four year old four decades ago. And it remains because I've been cosmically blessed to have been a child when artists weren't as hindered and handcuffed by focus groups, politically correct assassins of creativity, and bottom line slash and cut expediency for profit as they are now. . .I can imagine how it went down. . .Hey. Can you write a song? About what? The letter E. . .Um, okay. . Hallelujah and Amen.
This is why i have utmost respect for the 60's. Yes it a very dark time in history, but sometimes it's the darkness that arouses and ignites this kind of creativity. REAL art & beauty was bursting out all over at that time between 1967-1973. Those were the golden years.
The music is so sad. Listen to the sad violin. And it has a sad meditativeness to it too. One of my favorites of all time. First heard it as I was walking out the door and my little sister was watching Sesame Street in the living room.
Thanks for putting this up. A Classic created by The Hubleys. 1970-71.

Thank you for your comment
Thanks for the information on the Hubleys. I have always wondered if the music was from the collaboration of Yehudi Menuhinand Ravi Shankar.
Never realized how beautiful the music , here, was 'till I watched this now. Love this more now than I did when I was six! It's good to be 38 yrs old! :)
I can't stop watching / listening to this. i want to be this video.
You are it!
Such a calm and serene voice for a hell raiser chasing dogs and stealing opp. But seriously, quality nostalgia. Always wondered where he flew off to over the evening sea. I wanna be there.
beautiful music in this, i saw this as a little kid in the 70's :)
Most of life I wondered if I'd ever see this again as I loved the music as a kid and it even back then it made me sad as the boy leaves in the end to an unknown destination. I'm so happy today that I've seen it again!
Man, look at the memories!! I've never forgotten these and love to see them and remember again! xx Thank you!!!!!
Sooo imaginative...they don't make them like they used to be anymore. Such a shame. 😢
as much as i LOVE the narration, i would LOVE to hear just the music. but i just adore the whole thing.
... I had forgotten about this one. But the moment it started it all came rushing back and I just stared at it slack jawed.
Thank you for posting this.
to this day I can I remember this so clearly!!!! incredible*!!!! Thank you,,,,
One of my all time favorites. I always thought the music for this was so beautiful. It's a shame that SS isn't what it used to be. Listening to this now brings back the child in me in simpler times.
Very pretty music. It makes me nostaligic.
When Sesame was at it’s best! Wonderful childhood memories.
i LOVE the music! i watched SS when it started. i was 2! i love these old cartoons with the great lessons and music!
Yeah. I had an Awesome childhood.
E E See Me
Eating a Peach
Sitting on my Eagle
Chasing a Beagle
To the Queen on her knee under a tree by the sea
She was looking for her Easter Egg
Having a dream about eating ice cream in the Land of Steam
When a baby seal tickled her heal, she let out a squeal
And woke from her dream
In time to see the Eagle and Me
Flying away with the Easter Egg over the evening sea
Hee hee hee
E Eeeeeeee
I last saw this as a kid, but the haunting, mysteriously beautiful background music has stayed with me ever since. Thanks for posting -- I wondered whether I'd ever hear it again.
Wow... I havnt seen this since nearly 40 years ! I have never forgotten that music either, thank you so much for posting
Thank-you for posting this. It was one of the bright memories of my childhood. I'm looking at it with a hugh smile 😃 on my face.
absolutely love this.I remember seeing it as a kid ,watching it at my pops place .I feel so warm seeing these again & hopefully my daughter will love them as well
It's so amazing to see this again! I used to say some of these lines a lot when I was a kid, they really appealed to me, and the music is exquisite. Brought back such a good feeling of being a kid in those days of creativity. Sesame Street was such a gift to us.
This lesson in loss used to make me cry.
Wicked sitar on it!
and violin :)
I know - my first memory of sitar. Combined with the violin, it's burned into my brainpan. I still hum this, 40+ years later.
I haven't seen this in 35 years and I remember all of it!
I loved this as a kid, and I haven't seen or heard it since then. I remembered the melody, but I'd forgotten how beautiful the Indian instruments sounded.
I could still recite along with it, though, word for word. I watched Sesame Street a lot...
The music almost sounds like a sweet mantra in its self.I am a child of the 80's but loved this clip.It is beautiful art in music poem and animation!
If time travel were possible, I'd go back to 1970!
This can either make you cry, for the nostalgia and the beautiful story, or it will take you back to the 70's when everything was so magical.
This originally aired in 1969 and aired usually when the letter E was featured throughout the 70's!
Very Groovy tune!
This is beautiful, :D.
I'd been looking for this very clip all of my life since seeing it at age 5! The music and voice talent's cademce put me in a trance. It's nice to know this clip had touched so many as it touched and brought back fond memories for me. Thanks for posting!
OMG!!! I thought i would never see this, I liked watching this when i was little, relaxes me then as well as now.
this one just takes me way back. some stuff just never leaves you.
my favorite sesame clip of all time..i lve the music, and the thought of flying on an eagle...wow...thanks for putting this on ...saw an episode of sesame street this week...what the heck happened...
Me too! This music has haunted me for 40 years and led to a lifelong fascination with sitar music! I've been searching for this for years, but didn't know what it was called, or even what it was about. I only remembered the music and the boy flying with the eagle into the sunset. What a powerful piece of film that was.....to plant a seed in a child's mind and make it stick like no other piece of film from that time! I was 3!
very poetic from 1969
I remember the "O" cartoon very well but I'd completely forgotten this one. Seeing this brought my memories back immediately.
This was, for a long time, my favourite clip that Sesame Street used - and yes, that Indian music stayed with me. Probably fueled my later interest in raga. Thanks for sharing!
Stunning music and exquisite little story
Wooooo...THANK YOU! I've been in love with this trippy soundtrack since I was five years old.
Oh my GOSH, this takes me back! Waaaaaay back! :))
This makes me SOOO happy, :D.
A favorite of mine.
The music is SO haunting. What is it and who wrote it?
In reality, the "land of steam"., is probably a very hot and uncomfortable place to be. But the way this guy says it, it always made me want to go there when I heard this as a kid.
it sure would melt your ice cream pretty fast
Maybe this is where a generation of steampunks got inspiration?
This is the mellowest thing...
Stunning. This is burned into my brain pan from 5 years old.
I had the same reaction. Beautiful.
what an awesome memory trip. Thanx !! Statz comes thru again !
The violin is quite hypnotic to me...
Wow! how could one not like classic sesame Street better 😃Pity they don't show these anymore 😞 well they are here that's what's important☝️😊
I agree with you 100%, floresarts. It was a beautiful piece of music. Thanks to the poster of the video for this trip backward in time.
I HAD forgotten about this one. Trippy as!!!
I'd almost forgotten this existed but now I remember it. Wonderfully psychedelic! Even then I had a feeling that something about the imagery was really strange in a pleasing way...now I realize the multicultural aspect of it was what I couldn't quite put my finger on - the very Indian music, the somewhat Native American-seeming idea (to me anyway) of riding on an eagle, the very European-looking queen...oh, Sesame Street! If most programs were half as good I'd still be watching TV.
The greatest piece of animation- EVER!!!
Aaahh.. the memories!
Sesame Street: messing with young kids' minds since the 60's!
this is the best thing
Happy to see this. Again. Crying right now
Man, this makes me sad...I still dream of these (33 now) reminds me of when everything was magical....anyone remember "Mirror....here"? A magic mirror with a creepy voice? It used to give me nightmares, I also remember "the crack monster" it was a crack in a castle wall that people would talk to..oh well.
love that little tune,,, and Capital"I"
Wow... this has been in 'high demand' for SS classics on UA-cam. Thanks for posting... I have a feeling this will get lots of views :)
I`m so glad you brought it up back here again.
Thanks, so much!
I have been thinking about and wanting to see this again, since I first saw it as a little kid! I only saw it once, again, as a kid. And, it has affected my writing from the very beginning.
I am so excited to be able to favorite this video!
Sunshine & Blessings,
pompom914
Burned into my brain. Age five, mind blown. Age fifty five, still blown.
ME too. I could hear this in my head and tried to find it on the web before there was any You Tube.
E-e See me! Eating a peach sitting on my eagle chasing a beagle to the queen on her knee under a tree by the sea.
She was searching for her easter egg having a dream about eating ice cream in the land of steam. When a baby seal tickked her heel she let out a squeal and awoke from her dream in time to see the eagle and me flying away with the easter egg over the evening sea.... hee hee!
E-e. :)
Brings tears to my eyes every Time I. sEE it.
Sooooo good to have you back again.
I'm nearly 50 and can still remember these word for word from when I was a kid
I'm 60 but I have sibs 5 and 7 years younger than me. I always thought it was so cool that they did an animation in magic markers.
haunting music and beautiful early animation made me want to run away on the eagles back with my small boy during the very stressful political times in the early eighties.
I'm in my 60s. I first saw this as a rerun, not '69, more like '72, and I was so impressed that I audiotaped it and wrote down the lyrics.
I remember this. Thank you for posting this. :)
Just so beautiful.
Wow, this rings a bell in my head but I don't remember where I saw this when I was little
I was 11 in 1969, but had siblings 5 and 7 years younger than me, so saw lots of "preschool" TV at an older age.
This is one of my all-time favorite films from those days.
S.S. was my primary source of exposure to 'non-Hollywood-style' independent animation.
(Kudos also to "The International Animation Festival," another PBS 1970's show, and to RIchard William's wonderful half-hour version of "A Christmas Carol" which blew my mind in 1972 with its pen-and-ink/crosshatch/book-illustration style.)
Was this the work of the Hubley animation studio? Looks like it~~
It would also be fun to learn who played the music~~
And could that be (a very relaxed) Tom Lehrer on narration?
Thanks so much to the creators of this short,
and to anyone who might be able to answer my Qs.
yep, it was "Imagination Incorporated", John Hubley and narrated by jazz musician Dan Hicks.
Love the double take the queen does at :44, as she misses her Easter egg, only to see that the narrator and his eagle have stolen it.
I was raised with Sesame Street and remember this animation. It's so sweet, it's dreamlike. The music is especially interesting - sort of like the Penguin Cafe Orchestra meets Ravi Shankar or V.M. Bhatt.
If someone knows who did the music, please email me. I'd love to know, and thank you for posting this. It took me back and gave me the comfort of being a small child, safe at home.
But every time you hear it inside or listen to it here you relive a piece of meaning that is you! I think it's important to recognize what kind of feeling it brings then share it with preferably someone of a newer generation! Well thats my rant!
They should have featured this on the 50 years compilation!
This was animated by the Hubleys.
Very very nostalgic
Thank you
On behalf of all our hearing impaired viewers, I thank you for the transcript.
Still dreaming of the land of steam...
You hit on it exactly, wise commenter below! it's the fact that Jim Henson didn't treat us kids like simpletons. As though we were incapable of appreciating metaphors and life lessons if it wasn't delivered with painfully slow and condescending speech.
I watched SS in the 80's, and I loved Grover & Mr Rogers neighborhood, they kept it real! I was also endlessly fascinated by Mr R's cardigan and shoes changing routine, but that's neither here nor there.
The point is, this "children's" clip ma
Thieving dude and Eagle, taking the Easter egg.
No problem. I remember this poem very well. :)
