Half of my flock got sick this summer. It was terrible. Most of them could hardly breathe. Nothing really worked except what I made at home. I ended up using copper sulfate in their water 1.3 g per quart to stop the spreading for a week or two. Then I made a concoction of honey, cayenne pepper, ginger, turpentine and gave it twice a day. Honey got really sticky. I ended up naming one of my chickens Honey Face because of it... This was one recipe that helped a lot. I also used eucalyptus oil in honey -- 5 drops per tsp. in a syringe, giving the whole 5 ml to them am/pm. This was very effective. 5 drops on milk can help too if they will drink it. Vick's vapor rub put on head and chest. I gave them fermented meat, raw milk which has vitamin C, eggs, charcoal water sometimes. If they are really weak, meat may not be the best thing for them, but a raw egg in raw milk. I noticed at the end when the lungs appeared clear they were lethargic. That is where the meat really helped, small pieces to begin and at a time. I'd give them a piece of fermented liver every day. If they didn't eat it, I put it in their mouth. If they didn't drink I manually drank them. I recovered the majority. The only ones I did not recover were the first ones where I didn't know what or how to deal with it -- which were some good friends. I lost a total o f 9. 25 I recovered or more birds. Both my roosters were near death, but they are better now! I noticed Jet (rooster) gets a little dark on his comb from time to time. I give him meat for it. It works all the time. He is quickly building endurance. I gave instructions on how to ferment raw meat below in one of the comments. I may do a video on it. It is medicine!

Oh Dahlia I’m so sorry about Pookie. You know it happens even to the best of us. You did all that you could and your chickens are very lucky to have you. Love from Québec in Canada ❤
Thank you for sharing so much. You have been so so helpful to me. I'm an older lady retired and I have 12. Hens in one big coop. I try my very best to keep things. Clean and their water with some vitamins now and then. It's so hard to keep up on it. It's a full time job. I have not experienced them being sick yet, but your information is going to have me prepared prepared because I know that they do get sick.
Hey, everyone!! I just learned THE balm for combs/wattles/legs showing signs of oncoming frostbite!! It’s called Musher’s Secret!! I was told to add a couple of drops of black seed oil. I have used on two of my hens already and the combs perked up in minutes and have stayed beautiful. I will treat them once a week or so. I struggled with them last winter even with nightly treatments of Shea butter. Im so happy!
I’m sorry Dahlia you’re going through some stuff. I too believe our pets mirror our emotions. I had some chickens come down with a respiratory issue. I sequestered them in one of my runs. I gave them Nubiotic (on Amazon) in their water which is oregano for chickens and turkeys. It’s a liquid and a handy measuring bottle. When they were on the roost at night I would administer a couple of drops of colloidal silver in their beaks. The respiratory issue was gone in three days.
I'm very sorry for the entire encounter you and your flock (and family) has gone through. I definitely believe in the energy you are talking about. Animals are way more in tuned than most humans. Think about dogs that alert their owners to upcoming seizures or panic attacks. In my many years, i was a dog groomer for 8 years, then worked over 10 years in a large hospital. The past 4 years has been in the inpatient Behavioral Health unit. There can be a lot of energy there. It is real and more than most people realize.
Oh my gosh I just got a gray turken from my neighbor a few weeks ago with a little black cap like that. I named her Bianca after the disney mouse. It doesn't have to be like "energy" related. Your animals can absolutely tell just by body language and other cues that you're stressed and it can make them stressed as well. Which can easily compromise their immune response etc etc. Chickens getting better breakfast than I am xD Those coops look so weird and cool. I wish I could afford to upgrade.
Yes, i agree with you. We are energy & frequency for sure. We pick up on each other's emotions. Love my one & only chicken. Get a beautiful organic egg every day. So grateful! 🙏
I definitely believe our energy affects everything around us. Animals, our pets and I’ve even noticed the effects on my garden. Thanks for all the awesome information we can use. ❤️
Dottie my Americana had come down with something recently. her ear was swollen her eyes were foaming and she kept adjusting her crop. immediately started the flock on garlic and oregano oil in their water daily. I wound up having to treat the entire flock through the water with enrofloxacin 20% powder. Thankfully it seemed to have worked. the only downfall is you should discard eggs during treatment and 10 days after. After losing my Dominique Joan Jett I will try just about anything. I'm so sorry for your loss. No matter what you're still the best chicken mama ever.🐓
I lost 2 hens to a respiratory illness, which was heartbreaking... there were a few other close calls due to illnesses... I explained the ongoing issues my flock had been having, thankfully a lady in one of the chicken groups explained the same thing happened to her and it wasn't until it was too late that she realized all the illnesses were related to respiratory illness and how to treat my flock at home. She saved my flock with her advice! I'm so grateful to her and people like you who continue to help and educate us newbies.
My coop got infected with mites. It has made my chicken keeping experience really hard. I have spent 3 years battling it. My inner voice said to use elector psp. The cost seemed to high. After stressing my birds and myself through all of that. And at least a $1000. Lots of work and stress. I finally used elector psp. Wow. My girls look beautiful. I am nervous going into winter. Because it's very hard to get them wet and then dry when it's freezing cold. After such a long ordeal I am not going to believe that we will be doing all of that again
I so hope your chickens and you are ok again. What a trauma. I'm wishing your flock and you all the very best and hope for a save and not so cold winter. I have had a couple of my chickens who had respiratory issues a while back. Not all at once, but ever so often. Some were indeed colds, some were Mycoplasma. But then there were a few, my vet and I didn't know what illness it was. So, each of those times the vet told me to give them antibiotics. Unfortunately it didn't help at all and both of us, the vet and me, were sad because we didn't know why they had died and because we weren't able to help. So a little while back Bambam, my little bantam pekin, also turned sick. One day before I was able to take him to the vet, he passed and I was so upset. I took him along to the vet and asked her to check him, to please let me know as to why he died. It turned out he had a cancer in his throat. I live right near a field and I assume the pesticides may have been the cause for this cancer. Unfortunately I don't know if the others had died of cancer as well, but since the medication didn't work at all, I am quite sure, they all had the same cancer as Bambam. What makes me really mad is, that science and government keep reducing medications for chickens and other farm animals. At least in Germany they do. As to the chicken coop, dear, I would like to know, if the Omlet is better than the Snaplock from the USA. I bought the large Snaplock and find it quite easy to clean. But I have also looked into the Omlet. I'm not sure which is better though.
I'm so sorry for your loss. I've lost a few roosters just recently myself due to a mysterious illness. I have two chicken runs with URIs so they're all kept together still in their own runs. We're still fighting it and praying they'll get better soon 🙏. I'll definitely be adding garlic to their egg scramble! You pointed out that colodial silver is expensive and it is...if you buy it made. You can make your own so easily. Order a generator, it's about $100 online. It'll come with silver rods and all you need to add is distilled water and that's it. I literally make CS everyday and half fill their gallon waterers with it. You got this! Just breathe ❤
Azure Standard is the Best in my Book. It's cheaper and high quality organic. You can buy everything from them grains, vitamins and minerals, as well as the Kelp mix in stuff. I got 350 pounds of feed & minerals for $225. The two downsides are whether or not you have a drop off location in your area and that they only deliver once a month to that location. The delivery fees are crazy high if you don't show up and help unload the truck. Note: You may not have to unload the truck if you can work something out with the drop point coordinator in your area or if you know someone that is willing to pick it all up for you. God bless everyone!
Omg cried my first year chicken keeping as I lost 6 and spent $1000 on vet bills (differnt causes) and they died and then year before i spent $2500 on my cat and she died and I took her 5 days prior and she got a good bill of health from same vet but then had a stroke when I went on vacation. Our animals are so fragile.
I am so sorry you had this happen at a time when you weren't well & just want to let you know I absolutely love your book it is now my first go to when I need assistance. it's written in a way that's easy to digest & understand. Just 3 weeks ago some of our flock of 9 Austrolorps started sneezing so we immediately used your protocal for all of them also because it's hard to tell them apart & we dont have an avian vet anywhere near us. In 2 days the sneezing completely stopped & they were back to their old young selves. We did continue treatment with the vetrx after they roosted for 5 more days plus used colloidal silver in their water. Thankfully the 2 older flocks are in seperate yards & didn't have any symptoms but to be on the safe side I gave them the colloidal silver in water just in case. Apologize for the long story but wanted to give you a huge thank you for your wonderful book & by using the wisdom you shared we didn't lose a single one of our girls. 😊
I do believe that our emotional stress can be sensed by our animals and we may miss early signs of illness b/c of things that happen in our lives. So sorry to hear that your flock got so sick! You are such a responsible chicken keeper and I am so glad that the Omlet company reached out , at just the right time, (I believe that things happen for a reason too) to help your current situation. Stay strong and remember that we are guided in life by forces that we do not always "physically" see! I love your spirit and your channel. Thank you for your great information!!
im so very sorry something happened to u ....i hope u feel better now...i definitely believe that our animals feel what we feel...and talk to us ! ....many times i have walked outside to check my hens because i got a feeling...and lo and behold a hawk of some kind was overhead...they are so brazen and tried to snatch one of my bantams when i was 20 ft away....!! i decided to add chilli pepper flakes and powder to my feed for the last 6 months and i have been shocked at how much the health of my flock changed for the better !! i add a little camolina oil and pour a generous amount of hot pepper flakes and powder to their feed....the mice and rats dont seem to like it and my hens love it! my silkie has totally changed and gotten an absolutely amazing set of feathers !!! i also use homeopathics and they are wonderful! Dalhia i look forward to all ur videos and love seeing ur hens=))
Im sorry you had all these troubles, i know telling you not to feel guilty wont help but things sometimes just happen. Thanks for sharing all your good advise and i ordered the book ❤ I also have an omlet coop, use it for young chickens, wish they would make big ones
i lost one of my chickens last week i found her down on the flaw in my kitchen legs behind her un able to move :( she past 2 days later in my arms and we tried everything to save her sometimes its just there time 😭😭😭😭RIP betty
Thank you so much for all you do!!!! You are so inspiring and helpful. I was surprised to see your endorsement of Omelet but maybe you can put me at ease. My neighbor has one with 5 chickens. It seems so so small and sad to me! The poor things just pace in a circle all day long. This hurts my soul. I try and remember that chickens are ok with confinement. I try and remember that our chickens have such a better life than those in production farms,,,,,thoughts? It just seems cruel to me but,,,,inform me please! Thank you!
Oh, I too am very very sad right now due to a number of things going on for me and for others. I sat and hand fed my girls fresh spinach from my garden yesterday. It helped me!
Do they move it around? It’s best to move it around if they’re going to be in it all the time. And of course they need enrichment as well. I think most people let them out of the run for at least some time during the day. But just to put things in perspective: that amount of room is more than most chickens on earth have. So while it would be great if they had more room or if they moved the tractor to new grass every few days, it’s better than many situations. Sounds like your chickens have a great life!
The smaller Omlet runs are moved daily so they always have fresh pasture. Unless the ground is snowy. The longer stationary Cube runs, up to 15 feet or more for max 6 chickens, use freshened bedding which composts over time and keeps feet dry; and provides more space per hen for perches and entertaining gadgets. Especially in areas with multiple wild predator pressure and severe cold, those durable Omlet systems prevent needless tragedy.
@@helenloughrey7660 Do the Instructions give specifics about maximum numbers of chickens or importance of moving them around? My opinion has not changed. I think it’s cruel and I wouldn’t give one away, which is going to happen when these neighbor’s chickens pass the poor things just walk in circles all day long. They don’t let them out and I don’t think they move them. It’s appealing to the suburban family that just wants to have chickens.
The weather changes affect me and my flock. I love learning when they're not actively sick. Always keep things around for that minute And I grow herbs+ garlic.
Our plumber has recently installed a water filtration system to a local chicken rearing company - to make sure no fluoride is getting to the chickens. Our water doesn't contain it yet, but I gather they intend to.
I used to buy scratch and feed feed from azure standard. It was easy more reasonable than ordering it on amazon. However, I found a local Store that carries Sunrise Farms Organic feed and it’s very much like scratch and peck. I love it and so does my chickens and the price is very similar. I recently moved to a different state and I called them and they gave me the names and phone numbers of stores that carry their products. Dalia and anyone reading this, try them out. Believe me, they are not paying me to say this 🤪. On the other hand I use scratch and Peck for other items like grubs and herbs I put in their feed and other things like that.
Also you're the best chicken mom ever! Don't ever blame yourself and you were sick so of course you weren't on your top game and that's okay it can happen to any of us just remember we all love you you got a link for the omelet? So that you can get some money if someone buys it underneath your link?
My big rooster calls me all the time! And leghorns can get sick easy it seems....I got an orphington the get sneezes more than the others...I been giving her the vitamins in the water
You know what’s awesome..roosters! Like your Zorro, I had my little bantam rooster tell me something was up. It sounded a bit like the egg song, and he kept on and on. Turns out one of his hens was stuck inside a feeder. She’s perfectly fine, she’s just got a bigger booty than she think she has. Her sisters left, like sorry sis but we’re hungry..or ooo I’d stay but it’s bath time. But my rooster stayed right there with her. Chickens are the best!
SO.....I wanted to add Heather Levin from The Green acre advised me that I could put some of the fireside or I made also in their water I'm not sure of the ratio I usually do 3 gallons of water and like a half a cup of fire cider I don't even know if that's correct That's just what I do my chickens love it and knock on wood haven't been sick this year so far
We have had some kind of respiratory issues once... Homemade VetRx, Homeopathic Coryza, Achillea Millefolium and rosemary in the coop and food with cinnamon with Vit C. Water with garlic and onion. Gone in two days.
I also went to the feed store and found a brand called rooster booster and it's a vitamin B1 and vitamin k supplement for the water It's pink and smooth sweet anyway the chickens also get that in their water 3 times a week
I give good quality feed and some meat a few times a week . Add bugs in winter because they can not find them then . I also add liquid vitamins anytime one looks different
I also give fermented liver a couple times a week in their raw milk. I add an egg. To ferment meat just put into jar half full and open it every 3 to 4 days for new air. Keep refrigerated. You can do it without refrigeration but the jar must be opened every day to exchange air.
I used the colloidal silver at 25-30 ppm (parts per million) I used about .5 milliliter and put it on a little piece of bread so it soaks in… then feed it to the sick chicken a couple of times for a couple of days until they start acting normal again, it helped with eye mucus also and it has saved a few of my flock… so you don’t need much… it’s also helped me and my family members with severe blood and intestinal infection but humans need about a tablespoon a couple times a day for a couple days… but make sure the concentration is 25-30 ppm… overdosing is not good… humans can turn blue with excessive use or concentration… I don’t know what is excessive for chickens… so .5 milliliters was a safe dosage for my chickens… you can use an infant dropper from a baby ibuprofen or Tylenol to measure if you have one…
It's crazy. I had chickens & ducks as a kid with my folks. I fed milo, and scratch. Never had sickness & they laid like crazy. Only deaths were predators. Did lose some chicks not ducklings after hatching. As adult I fed combo of laying mash & Cracked corn. Didn't lose chicks except once with horrid accident with heat lamp. But couldn't raise guinea fowl from chicks. I had huge chicken yard & in summer they ran my garden & yard. No luck raising chicks under hens tho. I did everything cheap (got burnt or undercooked bread from small bakery for example), used herbs I grew & lots veg & fruit waste (I canned, lots of peels). My birds never sick, layed well even during molt, no death. I even had geese of 4 breeds & things got old. But I was in accident & had to move, bye bye happy life K
Mine had respiratory issues too , I tried a remedy with betel leaf and it worked wonders. Recipe: Half a betel leaf with half a peppercon for each chicken. You need to grind the two to make a smooth paste , make it into a ball and feed them. Once everyday for the next 3-4 days .Feed this to them when their stomach is kind of full. This was for medium size chickens, if they are smaller, divide into half.
Its an alarm call and my lead hen who is a cross beaked americana does that whenever she thinks anything is off. I have had my chickens react to my stress anxiety and illness before but they have never gotten it from it before. I wonder if it is because I have taught them all how to do phychiatric service animal and like deep pressure they all even the five month olds now how to read my affect and what to do to make me better
Please don’t feel guilty! If you do, the. I have to!! And, I’ve been trying to fight the guilt for six years! I had a severe concussion and missed my best friend getting deathly ill. And, because my brain wasn’t working right so I allowed myself to be lied to by my ex-vet rather than taking him to Purdue!!!
Dahlia, on page 13 of Dr. Kidd’s Guide to Herbal Cat Care it says: “The Person-Pet Connection - Native Americans believe that the purpose of domestic animals is for them to take on human diseases and mirror them back to us. I see this in my practice every day. As the cat’s human creates her or his own wellness program, it allows the cat to become healthy; as the cat gets healthier, the rest of the family also becomes more and more healthy.”
im from Canada we cannot get access/ Its really hard to find a poultry vet and if i do its quite expensive. I lost about 15 to 18 chickens Once it started it just went through the coop like fire \ It was a very sad time for me...
I would love to have the omelet coop for raising chicks hen it’s warm and they are old enough to come outside until they are big enough to join the flock. BUT it is way too expensive. I am retired and on fix’d income. I just cannot afford one. My young chick coop is getting so old. But just not in my budget.
So many people are having problems with their chickens getting respiratory disease right now, so I don’t know if it was how you were feeling or if it’s just going around.
I'm down here in the Willamette Valley and my veterinarian told me that it's not legal for her to write a prescription for antibiotics for any foul. So then what do you do
Scratch and peck has changed their ingredients. Now contains rice so I had to cancel using them. Quality has gone way down. I emailed back and forth with them if you want information Dahlia
I've been struggling with one of my special needs girls...she has not been feeling well and now is skinny...skinny. She stills eats, and acts like a chicken...but can tell she is not 100% - the main thing I am now seeing, is her poop is not "normal" poop, it's not cocci, but something...she is an ISA Brown, she laid everyday for over a year, she is now two as of this month...she had an awful molt this summer and never really bounced back, and then respiratory, which seems to be under control. I simply don't know how to help her. I will try the garlic in the water...and giving her some extra protein. Everyone else is doing ok - I have 16 girls. I feel helpless and very teary eyed as she is one of my first girls when I first got chickens. What am I missing??? AND I switched them to scratch and peck feed...so they have good nutritional feed.
Hi. I have 3 hens and have /had 1 rooster. My little brown hen has distanced herself from the rest of the flock. She stays in one part of my 3 part chicken coop. I started putting food and water for her on the place where she stands most of the day after I noticed she wasn’t mingling. I thought maybe it was because of the rooster. He was trying to mate with her all the time. Anyways this rooster was so mean that I couldn’t go in the coop without being attacked. My boyfriend would take care of chickens. So what happened is about a week ago he attacked my boyfriend and tore up his leg. I wasn’t home and went I came back from store he had killed the rooster. I didn’t want him to hurt the rooster even though he was so mean. Well he’s now gone. And the brown hen still is by herself during the day. She does sleep with rest of chickens. She looks so pathetic. Kind of frazzled and awful looking. I don’t know what to do.
I believe the energy thing is very true. That’s a major reason I don’t want to eat factory farmed meat. I believe the misery of those poor animals affects you when you consume it

Chickens getting better breakfast than I am xD
Those coops look so weird and cool.
Love your talks and guidance....esp love, actually covet your set up😊
Dottie my Americana had come down with something recently. her ear was swollen her eyes were foaming and she kept adjusting her crop. immediately started the flock on garlic and oregano oil in their water daily. No matter what you're still the best chicken mama ever.🐓
sorry about your chickens Hope they are doing better
I lost 2 hens to a respiratory illness, which was heartbreaking... there were a few other close calls due to illnesses... I explained the ongoing issues my flock had been having, thankfully a lady in one of the chicken groups explained the same thing happened to her and it wasn't until it was too late that she realized all the illnesses were related to respiratory illness and how to treat my flock at home. She saved my flock with her advice! I'm so grateful to her and people like you who continue to help and educate us newbies.
Please share!
Oh I one hundred percent believe that our animals are connected to us spiritually
I have had the exact thing happen, I was so down and that just made it worse. Don't beat yourself up. 😢😢😢
cering for animals has saved me from a world of deasaster, love to chicken landia
When you said she's a "Special Needs" duck, I just burst out laughing 🤣 Thanks ... I needed that 🤣
Thanks!
We are so connected
Just breathe ❤
lots of good suggestions for preventive and active sickness, I have your book too.
I'm glad your flock is on the mend ❤.
im so very sorry something happened to u ....i hope u feel better now...i definitely believe that our animals feel what we feel...and talk to us ! ....many times i have walked outside to check my hens because i got a feeling...and lo and behold a hawk of some kind was overhead...they are so brazen and tried to snatch one of my bantams when i was 20 ft away....!!
i decided to add chilli pepper flakes and powder to my feed for the last 6 months and i have been shocked at how much the health of my flock changed for the better !! i add a little camolina oil and pour a generous amount of hot pepper flakes and powder to their feed....the mice and rats dont seem to like it and my hens love it! my silkie has totally changed and gotten an absolutely amazing set of feathers !!! i also use homeopathics and they are wonderful! Dalhia i look forward to all ur videos and love seeing ur hens=))
Im sorry you had all these troubles, i know telling you not to feel guilty wont help but things sometimes just happen. Thanks for sharing all your good advise and i ordered the book ❤
I also have an omlet coop, use it for young chickens, wish they would make big ones
i lost one of my chickens last week i found her down on the flaw in my kitchen legs behind her un able to move :( she past 2 days later in my arms and we tried everything to save her sometimes its just there time 😭😭😭😭RIP betty
Hugs❤🎉

Do the Instructions give specifics about maximum numbers of chickens or importance of moving them around?
However, I found a local
Store that carries Sunrise Farms Organic feed and it’s very much like scratch and peck.
Thank you for sharing these treatment options.
Also you're the best chicken mom ever! Don't ever blame yourself and you were sick so of course you weren't on your top game and that's okay it can happen to any of us just remember we all love you you got a link for the omelet? So that you can get some money if someone buys it underneath your link?
I've also used Bioplasma when rehabbing wildlife, ans with sick animals.
You heard your rooster talking. You are an animal communicator :)
My big rooster calls me all the time! And leghorns can get sick easy it seems....I got an orphington the get sneezes more than the others...I been giving her the vitamins in the water
Not crazy. I believe our animals are way more sensitive and intuitive to our stresses. So sorry about Pookie.
we have something in the UK called nopex bk its only made by mantle farm in east Sussex and its awesome stuff works every time never found better .
You sound like a wonderful chicken momma ❤
@@AnneBatchelder-lg3nc aww thank you! You’re going to make me cry.
That chicken from the start was like: Nothing to peck here and my colleagues are pecking stuff freely, moving outta here :)
Yes, energy transfer is real. We are literally connected on an emotional level
I have the book, but I still take notes! 😁
But I was in accident & had to move, bye bye happy life
K
Mine had respiratory issues too , I tried a remedy with betel leaf and it worked wonders.
Recipe:
Half a betel leaf with
half a peppercon for each chicken.
I use camphor essential oil in my coop where the sleep I just sprinkle it on the floor…
❤
Could you make a video on bird flu?
You are not crazy. I am a ferm believer with our animals and our emotions rub off on each other.
What about just adding a couple drops of the eucalyptus to their water along with the Apple cider that I put in already??
Frequency….
Ice
Not felt well and completely missed
FLOX POX!!!
This time a year I wonder if you add cider vinegar to their water would help their amuse system stronger?
So many people are having problems with their chickens getting respiratory disease right now, so I don’t know if it was how you were feeling or if it’s just going around.
I'm down here in the Willamette Valley and my veterinarian told me that it's not legal for her to write a prescription for antibiotics for any foul. So then what do you do
what did people feed baby chicks before there was store bought?
Scratch and peck has changed their ingredients. Now contains rice so I had to cancel using them. Quality has gone way down. I emailed back and forth with them if you want information Dahlia
We've had something very similar here. What the heck is going on. 😢
Dahlia, does your Vet do virtual care?
😔💔🙏🏼
Fix it with : Mullin, Mullin, Mullin and chilli pepper
Whenever the planes leave those trails that turn into clouds, my chickens get sick.
But you know how those chickens can fake it, they fake it all the way up until the time they just pass out and die. It's not your fault
YES!!
Either 100% or in ICU🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
Feed back scammed eggs if nothing else.
I believe the energy thing is very true. That’s a major reason I don’t want to eat factory farmed meat. I believe the misery of those poor animals affects you when you consume it
