One of the best movies I've EVER seen! Funny, adventurous, touching and heartbreaking too! I've watched this movie Sooo many times I should go INTO the screen!!
I finally found the name of this movie after all these years of googling words such as the character that came out of the screen movie; never had any luck. Seeing this movie and concept as an 8-year-old kid in the 90s blow me away-such awestruck founding.
I've seen this at least eight times, and with each additional viewing, I love it more. What really cracks me up is when Tom Baxter walks off the screen, there's a cut to Kitty Haynes looking puzzled and shocked, and calling someone over, to witness the anomaly. This is genius comedy, that within a movie, which is (supposed to be) the same every time, it goes off the rails, but still has direction. Meaning, someone is still making choices for a line, AND hitting their mark, AND camera angles, movement, cutting to another character, and editing. This didn't occur to me, on my first viewing,, but now I guffaw each time, knowing what's going to happen. In other words, the movie within the movie breaks all the rules, but abides by the rules of movie-making, nevertheless. The dialog is hilarious, based on breaking the fourth wall, and still maintaining three.
I've watched it three times already! Boy, Cecilia reminded me of myself as a child, when I had a huge crush on Brendan Fraser's character in The Mummy 😅
Remember when you were doing your movie and Mia Farrow was watching and you, um, came down from the screen and talked to her and you were in black and white when you were on screen but then when you talked to her, you were in color.
Only a PURE GENIUS like Woody Allen could have had such a genial idea. And maybe, he knew that we are exactly in a hologram and that "reality" is not the one we can perceive 🎉
“Purple Rose of Cairo” is to Woody Allen what Edward Scissorhands is to Tim Burton. A perfect fable that you look at and couldn’t possibly believe but it’s something that you feel deeply and understand.
The ending simply sucked. I don't watch movies for profound observations of the human condition. Fortunately, the line, "I'm married, I just met a wonderful new guy... he's fictional but you can't have everything." redeemed the lack of happy ending.
If it helps you to appreciate this movie more, Woody wanted you to realize the potential for a fictional story of moving pictures, can elevate the mood. As Cecelia's heart is crushed, a slight smile creeps over her face, as Astaire and Roger's dance their heart out.
Just finished watching this movie on Turner classic movies and its the first time I seen it to the end. And I love woody Allen movies but this one is at the bottom of my list. I prefer Annie Hall or hanna and her sisters.
@@douglastrazzare3298 oh yeah I think I have heard that. Not his worst movie but it's probably the 3rd worst for me i also like Hannah and her sisters and Melinda and Melinda are my favorites

Such a great movie. Mia is adorable. Entire movie is very entertaining!
This has been my favorite movie since I was a teenager. I’m in my 40’s now.
I just saw this movie for the first time and it was fantastic! Great ending too.
My favorite film ever so far... One of the best masterpiece from Woody Allen

this scene represents sheer brillance

Woody Allen... weird guy, weird actor... better director! I can't remember when I saw this movie last. But I gotta see it again!

I love this movie.

Movie about time travel etc
The ending simply sucked.

Ah...you wanted the stock, unimaginative Hollywood ending. Yawn. Kitterman? Growing up our family's best friends were a family named Kitterman.
How it ended is what really gave the Final Impact to this film! It's a perfect film and I wouldn't change a thing..
“I don’t watch movies for profound observations of the human condition.”
Maybe you should think about starting.
