In so many ways Sturm is essentially Darth Vader in advance Wars.

@@draconicfeline6177 You might be right about that, although I do disagree with that statement. Vader just has more lore to him, and that is what makes him more appealing to me. That said, I do find Sturm to be so mysterious to have its own kind of appeal. They are both awesome in their own different ways.

@@dev2410 Lore isn't always good, because it can overexplain, and also trivialize, ect. Part of Sturm's strength is that he is mysterious. He wouldn't be better with an overly intimate explanation of who he is, and where he comes from.
I agree that vader is top dog though. When written well, he's vicious, hateful, and much more personal.

i legit had no idea who his VA was until i looked him up and the dude did such a killer job with sturm, i hope he gets more chances at him (and other villain roles tbh) in the future
@@idiotsplay580 Craig Lee Thomas really hit the vibe of Cartoon Supervillain, but not the ridiculous hammy kind. The kind of Cartoon Villain who is so over the top evil that theyre genuinely intimidating to the point of likely traumatizing at least a few kids.
...And in hindsight, Sturm absolutely traumatized a few kids playing AW back in the day
@@ApollehFor me, the best comparison would be Jim Cummings when he played Robotnik in Sonic SatAM. Robotnik can be hammy at times, but the SatAM version had that along with being terrifying. I mean if your uncle was a fat cybernetic overlord who is serious about turning you into "the paperweight he's always wanted", you're probably gonna be needing several pairs of brown pants.

After all, we dont know who the fuck Sturm is. While everyone else is using conventional looking military units Sturm uses these otherworldly units (despite still functioning the same of course)

All we know is that he is indeed an alien. But I doubt we'll ever get more than that.
I always thought the Black Hole units were drones because they don't have any windows for crew to look out of.

Gotta say, I was wondering how they'd top perfection of Sturm's theme. Though the interpretation might sometimes make the lead instruments a bit quieter than I'd really like, all the fullness, richness of the accompaniment, and the consistency with other Black Hole sounds make this version *fire.* A perfectly threatening and overbearing song for our main villain.
I found that an issue with a lot of their themes actually. The mixing seems a bit off for a lot of them.

@@HighLanderPonyYTeez, the Black Hole cutscene theme in AW2 was so HORRIBLY mixed, I couldn't tell what it was supposed to be! Probably the worst of the worst of rearrangements in the soundtrack
Edit: I was so looking forward to how good it would sound in the Remake, just to be HORRIBLY disappointed.
I wish they dialed up the metallic clanking noises that pop up in the percussion. Here they're so... subdued and melodic.
I actually always preferred Hawke's theme in the original; but they did my boy dirty. Between the two, Sturm's theme has the better remix.
Man, I've heard tales of this guy's power. How one CO power could devastate your strongest forces. How you literally need 3 COs combined just to take him down... And now he's back and in HD
This is gonna be awesome
he really has an enormous advantage by having all his units' movement unhindered by terrain type (save from mountains and water for vehicles, land for ships and snow for everything, but all the other COs hold the same ground there minus Olaf in snow), that thing alone is a great strategic advantage for unit positioning and movement on the whole map. Add the base +20% atk and def and make it +30% + meteor strike, this guy is unstoppable :0
@@MrSasukeSusanoo he gets 120/120 att/def daily, and 140/150 during his power. He’s almost impossible to drag off cities that day, cause he likely dropped a giant ass rock on the units that were set to do it
Sturm in AW1 is overpowered, but not batshit broken. Now in AW2...imagine combining his dreaded power with Samurai Spirit.

It's a pipe dream, but I'd love to see Sturm in Smash Bros. I can picture his Final Smash going like this:
Sturm teleports from the field, and we cut to the inside of a Black Hole HQ. He brings up a holographic map of the arena and the other fighters' positions, styled after the grid maps of an Advance Wars game, points at the spot they're all on, and calls down the Meteor Strike.
Don't forget the important part :

She has busted Attack and Defense, then her CO Power hits in the same formation as Sturm's Meteor Strike. It's commonly joked that Sturm is Tabitha's real father. XD
@@richardquinata76 Her Attack and Defense are high but she has a pitifully small CO zone which makes it more difficult for her to get her meter up. Only when she activated her COP does her army become more like Sturm’s. Also I thought her COP’s AOE was a thinner diamond rather than the ones we’re accustomed to with Sturm’s Meteor/(Rachel’s)Missile Silos/Von Bolt’s paralysis lightning.

@@Rexaura888 She probably wanted to break away from that lunatic, Caulder, so she tries to be more like Sturm. Granted with Sturm gone she doesn't have much to go on for reference, so she decides to embody overwhelming force by her lonesome which was something Sturm did in the first game by not having any other COs in Black Hole but himself. Also I looked up her Firestorm CO Power, it's about the same range.

@@Apolleh He wasn't wrong. That's just how Hawke took over. Sure, they reached the HQ and stopped the missile's launch but they couldn't do anything about the Black Hole army.
And they were literally spared of their lives.

They did my boy Hawke DIRTY when it came to his theme. Which sucks because his design, his power activation animation, and his voice are among the best in the game.

Our best hope is people remixing it and doing a better job. Hawke's theme (and arguably jess') are the only poor scores on the whole title.

For me, the true horror of facing Sturm at the end of AW1 didn’t come from his appearance or theme, but rather from helplessly watching him curb-stomp my troops into oblivion.

Liked for the upload but I prefer the OG. More sinister and emptier which gives it a stronger sense of dread.

Sturm honestly feels like they took every 'evil leader' trope ever, put them in a blender and poured the resulting mixture into a robot suit.

The original sounds a lot more intimidating.
Hard disagree, and imo, anyone saying any of the old GBA tracks are better than the reboot music is high on rose-tinted nostalgia (and I say this as someone who played the shit out of the original GBA games).

It means it's good because of its roots, not because the remake is good. As in the remake part is carried by the source material and on its own it's bad.
