it's science fact red meat has the most flavour at medium, and that's not a joke, I went to a convention about British lamb and the British champion of butchery told us that, it could be bollocks but I just thought it may interest you.
+William Stanway Lamb tends to have more flavour once you cook it past rare-medium rare (obviously not well done mind you). But I find that beef steaks has the best flavour and texture at rare, but thats dependant on the cut of beef you're using
+Wolfie 24 it's all personal preference and your right fillet is much nicer just under medium, you should only cook fillet blue as well, you should never eat sirloin and rivets blue, the fat does not cook and the meat tastes ugly, fillet you can eat raw though , again all personal but those are classic guidelines.
That is one technologically sophisticated box. It actually is a pretty amazing achievement. That said, as a guitarist who loves tone, to me this is stupid. If I want synth sounds I'll use a synth. To take the world's greatest instrument, the electric guitar, and turn it into a cheesy keyboard is folly. I predict they'll sell a lot of these, and then the used market will be flooded with them as guitarists get bored with them. However, I will say the slower passages where he combined the natural guitar sound with a good mellow keyboard sound were pretty cool. That'd be useful to guys who gig solo. At the end of the day, it's just another tool and it gives guitarists who can't play keyboard the ability to sort of play keyboard.
At 12:40 you became an instant boy band. 3 heads bobbing with instruments and only one actually playing an instrument. But just for a moment. Brilliant piece of kit. My synth funk dreams are answered. Except for that 700 bucks I need ha
kinda reminded me of the dead weather with the bassist playing trough a synth and havin the keys and the guitar in there as well. great fun review, amazing playing :)
Alex seems like such a cool dude, in every video he always looks like he's just enjoying himself. Not to mention he's a beast of a guitar player (aside from Chappers of course) hehe
Does anyone know if there is any software that can do this? I don't mean synth software that is MIDI driven by a MIDI pickup. I have found an monophonic iOS app called "Jam Synth" that does the same thing - it's good but fairly limited.
wikichris Yes the boss gt-100 pedalboard can control synths as its a audio interface too so plug the boss into the laptop fire up you're daw once the guitar signals on a channel drop your favorite vst on it but other then thats there no other softwear/hardwear that can do it! So this or the roland gt-55 synth
This is a pretty cool unit and I imagine once inside you can make some pretty gnarly sounds...however, I will be going with the Roland GR-55. If you all haven't seen it yet Rob and Alex did a killer demo of it a while back...Captain should've been there for that one.
Hey Rob big fan of the ml3 modern been looking to try one, just curious are you thinking of stocking Chapman guitars in any other uk guitar stores or are you going to just stick with Andertons, the 300 mile drive form my house is quite far :D
obviously don't know when you filmed it but this vid coming out back to the future week , definitely should have played some huey Lewis synthtastic power of love
Are all those classic instrument emulation patches like violin, horn, etc on presets? Holdsworth used those a lot on the Synthaxe for his solo voices, usually with some kind of breath or foot controlled expression parameters. That's what I'd really like from this pedal.
Great! I've got one of these. For me it's the first Guitsynth that works, since the GR300. And like the old 300, it's more like a big fuzzbox than a synth.
Back in the late 70's early 80's I had a Roland GR-300 and the guitar controller called a G-808 (I think). It would play like a 4th or 5th of an entire chord, so you could stack them. It really did strange things to major sevenths and minor sevenths. Can this thing handle that?
When I first switched this on I thought I was watching The Big Bang theory with Leonard and Sheldon lol :-) I know Rob will appreciate this ,penny penny penny :-) on a more sensible subject This Boss SY 300 is amazing will be taking a closer look, The 39 steps went right over his head
I wonder what the least and most returned items and brands are. I know returns aren't a judge of quality, but i wonder if there are some brands that people can part with easier than others.
Pity the viewer couldn't see the effects unit itself whilst it was been changed from sound to sound. Doe's this peddle also have piano, or trumpet and cello sounds, etc?
+Bloodlines6262 But we've only heard 1 full song from Rest Repose, and they've only been around a few months. Once they find their sound, as dorje have done, they'll both be very good.
+Axel Nielsen Dorje: 18,000 Facebook likes; Rest, Repose: 5,500 Facebook likes. Dorje: 32,000 UA-cam subscribers; Rest, Repose: 0 UA-cam subscribers. Dorje: Have gone on tours across the UK and have supported InMe; Rest, Repose: no tours. Dorje: Released 2 EPs with an album due next year; Rest, Repose: probably don't know what a microphone is.
So glad that these guys think outside the box and use this pedal to actually play riffs using the sub-octave type effects, rather then just mucking around with some organ butterfly or some shit to make ambient sounds.
Some variation should be great. It's clear Alex loves the power-saw sound with some filter sweep. Now common make another sound, it's a synthesizer with 3 oscs. Even my Juno 60 with 1 osc (and one sub) has a wider tonal range... and it sounds less bad.
I love one sound in particular , that starts at 1:30 - 1:53, I assume he uses the SY300 for that but does he also use something else, namely the Roland next to it? So my question is what do you need to reproduce that sound, thanks in advance. Great video!
It's good to see Alex! Love his playing!
That is hands down the best guitar player Ive ever heard thats only played for 2 weeks....sensational!
On the tastiness level, Alex's playing is a rare steak.
it's science fact red meat has the most flavour at medium, and that's not a joke, I went to a convention about British lamb and the British champion of butchery told us that, it could be bollocks but I just thought it may interest you.
+William Stanway Lamb tends to have more flavour once you cook it past rare-medium rare (obviously not well done mind you). But I find that beef steaks has the best flavour and texture at rare, but thats dependant on the cut of beef you're using
+William Stanway I think he meant it as a compliment for that reason.
+Noah McCoy Only on a Chapman comment section will you find two lads conversing meat on a guitar related video
Only his second lesson and he's already got the faces of rock down, i'm impressed! ;)
this is probably best effect ever made
+Erotic Potato - don't be so sarcastic
Fabulous. We've come along way since 1977 and the gr thingy I played at a Roland road show. Everyone's a winner.
Alex, one of my favorite modern guitarists!!!
Hutchings has sold me so much stuff just by his playing performances.Excellent
When Did I start making guitars ?
Painfully underrated comment
This synth pedal sounds fackin amazing guys! Great review!
wow! this will make huge retro video game soundtracks.
that is exactly what I was thinking. I wanted to hear some mega man or castlevania
Holy crap! That jam @ .26 is incredible!
I own this pedal and I love it!!!!
Yes, but can it Miku?
krelbar thats a good question!
Alex seems like a brilliant guitarist

Alex is a fantastic guitar player. This is cool no bullshit hooked to the guitar so you can run any guitar you have instead of using just one Im sold.
Just wondering if you know if you can create a piano sound on the sy 300 I have been looking for a piano patch can anyone help? please !!!!!!
where do i get a guitar face synthesizer like alex's?
Ah yeah, it's Alex! This guy's playing is awesome!
4:39 in particular sounds brilliant.
My god this thing sounds amazingly funky.
At 12:40 you became an instant boy band. 3 heads bobbing with instruments and only one actually playing an instrument. But just for a moment. Brilliant piece of kit. My synth funk dreams are answered. Except for that 700 bucks I need ha
The pedal is kinda cool (too expensive), but Alex is a fucking beast.
kinda reminded me of the dead weather with the bassist playing trough a synth and havin the keys and the guitar in there as well. great fun review, amazing playing :)
boss SY300+any talkbox=gold
So if I plug my guitar into that Super Mario Fart Machine, will it cause me to make all those crazy faces he does every time he plays a chord?
Super Mario tart machine hahababahahababab
Super mario fart machine hahaha jo
mad that you'll never be that good huh?
JH Scofield And more??
liked purely for alex
Alex seems like such a cool dude, in every video he always looks like he's just enjoying himself. Not to mention he's a beast of a guitar player (aside from Chappers of course) hehe
I really love alex's playing

wikichris yes, there is software called midi guitar and is pretty good. I thought boss had just put it in a box to begin with.
Dude this is great!
Fuck this, you can't just get a guitar-synth pedal and NOT play Final Countdown. Disliked and unsubscribed.
+ScumContinual96 I was hoping to hear Jump :(
i was thinkin the same song :(
colintraveller It was a joke, calm down bro.
On a more serious note , i think they have to be careful doing covers and copying tunes.... For copyright reasons.
+colintraveller spoken like a true Irishmun
This is a pretty cool unit and I imagine once inside you can make some pretty gnarly sounds...however, I will be going with the Roland GR-55. If you all haven't seen it yet Rob and Alex did a killer demo of it a while back...Captain should've been there for that one.
I'm assuming a DD-500 video is soon to follow??? Crossing my fingers! Thanks Rob & Capt!!! And Alex!
Hey Rob big fan of the ml3 modern been looking to try one, just curious are you thinking of stocking Chapman guitars in any other uk guitar stores or are you going to just stick with Andertons, the 300 mile drive form my house is quite far :D
Where did the old room go? It was so nice...
I like when you guys have guests.
What is the song in the intro?
Are all the music videos for the new album shot in malta?
obviously don't know when you filmed it but this vid coming out back to the future week , definitely should have played some huey Lewis synthtastic power of love
Does Alex remind anyone else of Zed from Police Academy? :\
Ah Bobcat Goldthwait plays some juicy licks!
+deltafit Or the Predator??
Are all those classic instrument emulation patches like violin, horn, etc on presets? Holdsworth used those a lot on the Synthaxe for his solo voices, usually with some kind of breath or foot controlled expression parameters. That's what I'd really like from this pedal.
These guys had me very confused when they said that bloke had only been playing for 2 weeks & then he starts shredding like a super beast!
Great! I've got one of these. For me it's the first Guitsynth that works, since the GR300. And like the old 300, it's more like a big fuzzbox than a synth.
No, I didn't, my good guy. Buy a Klon, it's even more and just an overdrive ;-)
+Robert Bossart How does it stack to the EHX MicroSynth?
BOSS SY300 IS LOVE
BOSS SY300 IS LIFE
Jesus, this guy has a wonderful technique :D
sy300 has midi out on the back, is it possible to trigger other external synths or vsts with it?
Man, that dude has some skills.
The pads would work really well in a church setting for vamping during prayers and such and I could also see it used to do covers of Jump by Van Halen
Hey Rob. Can you please tell me where I can watch the UFO disclosure video you talked about. Thanks.
"NEEERRRDS!!!!" Very elegant ones though.
I need this!!!!!
Imagine if Zappa had one of those . . my mind is melting.
Would probably run something like this in parallel with an ABY switch to another amp. Great review.
10:57 Ming the Merciless from Flash Gordon - 1980.
Your stood there with this pedal, ready to play live right :) will you be thinking, which sound will actually work??? A lot of piss about stuff
OMFG That opening riff...
That guy has some strong potions.
Potion seller. I am going into battle. I need your strongest potions.
You are not deeply rooted in reality, now are you!
Is the Synth hooked up to that expression pedal, or is it another piece of kit?
But most importantly... can it Miku?
How dare you compare it to the one and only Miku!
I would like to have one lol but every time I save enough money to buy one the new model comes out and bills happen. What is this cycle of defeat?
:25 what would you call that style of playing? it reminds me of cky kinda, what scale is that in?
Back in the late 70's early 80's I had a Roland GR-300 and the guitar controller called a G-808 (I think). It would play like a 4th or 5th of an entire chord, so you could stack them. It really did strange things to major sevenths and minor sevenths. Can this thing handle that?
It works with a nylon strung guitar well except for the high E string.
When I first switched this on I thought I was watching The Big Bang theory with Leonard and Sheldon lol :-)
I know Rob will appreciate this ,penny penny penny :-) on a more sensible subject This Boss SY 300 is amazing will be taking a closer look, The 39 steps went right over his head
I'm getting some Snarky Puppy vibes from this. EPIC.
I wonder what the least and most returned items and brands are. I know returns aren't a judge of quality, but i wonder if there are some brands that people can part with easier than others.
+CaptAnderton What are the 39 steps?
At 3:09---- is that how they get the sound on the solo on song show me how to live by Audioslave
wow! now that's a piece of gear!
OMG what a fascinating experience to watch this vid completely high-ass--stoneeeeeeeed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11 ajajajjaja hilarious XD
Pity the viewer couldn't see the effects unit itself whilst it was been changed from sound to sound. Doe's this peddle also have piano, or trumpet and cello sounds, etc?
does anyone know what the name of the song is Alex is playing at the start cheers
I see this as more of a 'Production' tool for use in the studio and what not.
Gus! He finally did! Chappers did Newman!
Can't beat a bit of old Gazza! You'll give in to his brilliance eventually! p.s: it's NUMAN!
i could play the entire portal 2 soundtrack with this
What kind of guitar does Rob have?
#dorje vs #restrepose
+Axel Nielsen Fuck you. Dorje + Rest, repose: World Tour! :)
Other than the 'fuck you' i agree!!!!!! That would be amazing
+Bloodlines6262 But we've only heard 1 full song from Rest Repose, and they've only been around a few months. Once they find their sound, as dorje have done, they'll both be very good.

+Danimra Stablecon rest repose: have an audio engineer as their drummer and one as their frontman, been together for a few months. dumbass
Daft Punk would be proud :P
Will you do a review of the new Boss delay, the DD-500?
How much does Alex charge for Guitar-face lessons and is their a masterclass for guitar gurning (Grade 3 ) ?
would you guys be able to demo some JHS pedals as i don't think you have done them before? :))
Alex once again establishing his position as World Gurning Champion. (If you don't know just google it).
I don't know and i wont google it.
guitar gurning, he's a champ
What song is he playing at 7:13? Zappa?
So glad that these guys think outside the box and use this pedal to actually play riffs using the sub-octave type effects, rather then just mucking around with some organ butterfly or some shit to make ambient sounds.

Would be fun to hear this paired with a looper...

Loads of talent
Any tips on painting guitars?
The SY-300 beautifully captures the sound of Pat Metheny giving up, and not trying so hard anymore.
Christ, this is great fun, I want that!! :o
It’s the greatest pedal ever.
Sounds a lot like Yamaha digital synth from the old days. (DX & TX) I like this.
what is that scale alex plays at +-10:5-10:25
Did chappers or captain ever meet Doug Aldrich?
13:45 sounded so awesome :D
What guitar is Alex using?, it looks absolutely stunning
wow this is sick
What if you would combine this with the miku pedal? :3
i like it but the volume seems to need to be level i love the tracking the way you can use the wammy and its realy so much like a keyboard
