I keep reinstalling this game because I like the idea of playing it, and then uninstalling it again after a few hours when I realize how boring it is. When you get to the Hinterlands, the pace and the story of the game just fall off a cliff.

    • @openmusic3904

It’s the same for me. The Hinterlands is a terrible starting area for the game. We go straight from a fast paced opening, into a massive map full of chores and filler. It completely takes the wind out of the sail that is the game.

Yeah, i often have more fun thinking about DAI than actually playing it. Game at times just feels stretched out more than it needed to be, there's just more clutter than it needs to be.

Most relatable comment, DAI at many times just doesn't know when it overstays it welcome.
Like Origins all the levels feel perfectly bite sized. Like I can fully knock out(collectibles, loot, exp, explored) a level or two in one afternoon.
DAI I spend a whole afternoon grinding through half of the Hinterlands or 3/4 any other map.

This is an old video with a pretty small view count, but what is talked about is so goddamn true. DAI got lots of positive review's and i'd say most people praised it for being better than DA2. But the truth is, everything got dumbed down for a big, pretty map with loads of nothingness and tedium.
This is the game that broke my trust in bioware, and especially after it got so easy off the hook by it's core fanbase, i have very little hope left that da4 will be any good.

I want DA4 to be good, I really do. But I just can not see how they will be able to pull it off. Even if you ignore all these gameplay related things, the tone/vibe of the world in DAI is so much brighter and lighthearted than in Origins. Dragon Age now looks like another generic, colourful fantasy. It sadens me to say it, but I think the glory of DAO will never be replicated again.

Inquisition is when I saw DA die. I'm not a fan of DA2, BUT it is a decent game albeit way grindy combat with unending waves of enemies but nothing like Inquisition - it just wasn't ready to ship. It was severely unpolished, barely past Beta II phase.
Bioware was a source of pride in the game dev world but now they are a joke. It's like 90s Blizzard vs blizzard today.

I agree with the guy above me DA fanbase hate DA2 too much and blinded by Shitty romance and marriage with cullen and sera.. while DA2 its the last Dragon age game for me.. maybe its repetition but damn The dialogue even better and its like Saints row 2 with balance and humour dark moment... I like DA2 the only game Your mc Didnt use their class sometimes to kill the enemies but using Assassins knife from their hidden pocket 😂😂 and abuse One of thief stealing your shipment.. not even Inquisitor can be interesting lik that..
I dont like this Inquisitor command hawke and blame everything if she(mine was female kekw) Sacrifice stroud or alistair... And Hawke was like"Yeah here we goes again its all your fault thing on me again like my mum in lothering 😑"DAi its a big slap to the character in DA1 and2.. they clearly hate hawke and Varric and trying to make inquisitor better than them but failed....
At least im glad Death of Hawke its not really canon after DAI event she got happy endinf with her trustworthy dwarf to rebuild kirkwall she still the champion again and Varric elected as new Viscount.

I played DAI first. It was good enough to get me interested in the series, but after playing the first 2 games, I see how much better the first 2 games are. I want to replay Origins and DA2 but the idea of replaying DAI makes me tired.
I also loved the atmosphere and tone of the first 2 games. The dark gritty fantasy theme was great. The side quests tied into the story and I loved the quests with the Sloth and Desire demons. DAI had the weakests side quests and enemies in the series. It feels like the entire game was built around the multi-player that no one asked for or wanted.

The worst part for me personally is that DAI, like so many other "RPGs" today, has seemingly no concept of how the Hero's Journey is supposed to flow. Particularly "The Ordinary World" phase of it, where we are supposed to see a state of everyday life for the protagonist. DOA was a triumph of in video game storytelling for this reason. Each of the Origins set your protagonist up with a unique personalized take on everyday life, before a unique "Call to Action" and then "Meeting the Mentor" with the introduction of Duncan. The fact that DAI glosses over these literary character-development fundamentals and chooses instead to throw you into a character during the "Death and Rebirth" phase is a terrible storytelling decision for an RPG. It's sadly everywhere, though. Every video game these days that dares to call itself an "RPG" seems determined to cut the player out of all their own character development decisions.

Yeah, this game is more on MMO quests. This happens when story driven linear games become an open world, the quality has dumb down. Instead of giving us deeper content they just give us more hours to play for very low quality tedious boring quests. Quality is always better than quantity.

    • @RagnarokHybrid
      @RagnarokHybrid  3 роки тому +9

The worst part is all the GOTY awards and everything kind of validate everything the game was doing in a messed up way. Dragon Age Origins was so great and timeless because of the stories it told and the depth of its mechanics and it baffles me how the same team went on to do almost the complete opposite with Inquisition. The articles that came out after Anthem explained a lot--with all the crunch and bad leadership. But even now that that's out there and the leadership behind DA4 has changed somewhat, I'm still not convinced they can capture what made DAO so great.

@@RagnarokHybrid The team that made DA2 and DAI were definitely not the same as the DAO team. After DAO was finished, most of the senior leadership left the team to work on other games. The B-team took over from that point(Laidlaw and Darrah) Those guys are hacks and rode on the coattails of Dan Tudge, James Ohlen and Brent Knowles(the original leadership of DAO. What's truly baffling about DA:I is the moralism. Underneath all that cruft and open world Ubisoft game design it could have been a semi-decent game if they had just stuck to the principles of storytelling from DA1 or hell even DA2 to some extent, but in DA:I your personality is set in stone and there is really no agency about what sort of inquisition you are. It's especially weird because the whole schtick of "inquisition" and what made it sound interesting as a concept is being at least morally grey, to outright evil, yet none of that is possible in the game. It's like making a game about shooting but then every gun shoots nerf sponges.

    • @fynnh5459
      @fynnh5459 2 роки тому +8

You helped me to finally get to the core of why I hate this game so much. I'm replaying DA:O and having a blast. You can literally kill Connor because the Grey Wardens can't waste time on him. Yet in DA:I you go off picking flowers and there isn't a single option to tell the world's factions to stop squabbling unless they want to be run into the ground by the inquisition instead. I really wanted to have options like that. It feels like High Fantasy instead of Grimdark to me. 🤷‍♂️

    • @TheSpiritsLease
      @TheSpiritsLease 5 місяців тому +1

@@fynnh5459People actually somehow liked this. Couldn't stand the fact that you couldn't smack the other factions around or kill their people like The Warden could. First sign of that came when the interaction with Isabella's First Mate couldn't be punched in his teeth for talking bad to you. It only got worse once Awakening basically led the series downhill with a moral downgrade of the Mage/Templar Conflict.

For those who care, a very VERY rough estimate of my "hours/amount played" for each game mentioned is in the description. I played DAI again for 30+ hours for this video with three new, different characters and beat it all the way through with the religious elf character. I haven't played through any of the DLC except Trespasser (twice) and given the painful tedium of this game's mechanics, I likely never will.

It took me 3 attempts to play throught this game. First I didn't even get past the tutorial quest. During the second time I'd been running around a map for literally 40 minutes trying to get to an area when I found out I had to go back to Skyhold and spend 5 power on a wartable mission to access it - I quit and uninstalled the game.
3 years later I've finally completed it and throughout my entirely gameplay I've frequently hated everything about it.
Let me add my favourite aspect of the tactical camera: when you can't zoom out at all because you are in a place with LOW CEILING Also why are all the maps so unreasonably HUGE? Why do I have to stick to the roads? Wallclimbing is almost on pair with WOW Classic - nonexistent. Why are there so many nooks and crannies without any treasure or hidden area? I've realized it's not worth exploring.
Why is everything full of broken structures and huge rocks and ramparts if they don't want me to climb over it? Why did they put so much random rubble on roads that serve no purpose except for your characters to get stuck on them? Why is Skyhold so inexplicably large with nothing noteeorthy to be found? WHY DON'T COMPANIONS STANDING IN A NARROW DOORWAY MOVE THE FUCK AWAY WHEN I RUN TOWARDS THEM???
Combat AI is infuriatingly stupid. Companions just standing around when I target and hit an enemy with a spell and they don't join the fight unless I autoattack or order them manually to do so. Then I accidentally tag a nug, hit it once, it runs to the other end of the world and I am stuck in combat for minutes. The hold position option is a mess.
There are just so many annoying things in this game, like Dunkey said once playing it is like having a second job I pay for. Problem with Game of the Year award is the same as with the Oscars best movie. No matter the quality of the product, they have to give it to someone each year.
Thank you so much for making this video! All this was needed to be said.

    Too much BABY SITTING.
DA2 had more personality, more side quests that could conviently tie into the main story. The only thing was the environments were over used which Bioware took the main complaint about DA2 and made this. It wasn't *_originally_* that bad, if you look at comic con 2013/14, it looked like a perfect rendition of their open world with characters cutscenes galore, but they cut that and made this. This doesn't have aaannnyy story to it, its get attacked, evil dude was revealed which was a side bad guy in a dlc in da2, do 3 story quests, bam beat the game.
Even with DA4 announcement coming out I've moved on to fire emblem, Three Houses was the best and it reminded me a bit of DAO, it has a cast of 20+ characters that all talked to each other with all of them being straight romanceable with some bi.
I know its not strictly a choose your own adventure style, but it has characters, character interaction, romances and tactical gameplay.

Agent Haring just chatters too much.), it's twisty and turning plus the shards could spawn in spots that are hard to get to. I especially hate forbidden oasis with a passion, even when you get the power it feels it takes forever for the inquistion to level up so it feels I'm forced to cheat gold, exp and influance because the grinding just grinds my gears. Problem with the Hinterlands is that the game does a bad job of explaining the problem going on there which would actually be the hook to enable players to enjoy their time. See, there's actually a war going on... i know right? You wouldn't know if i didn't point it out because the game does the worst job of it, but if you actually try to consciously feel for the people in the Hinterlands suffering under rogue templars and mages, you can actually feel motivated to slog through the Hinterlands content. I've actually managed to complete it now. I guess the other part is appreciating the significance of the Hinterlands as where it all started for Dragon Age with Ostagar being not too far from the area.

If they wanted to make it like Skyrim, they failed big time. Skyrim is more than just a big map with lots to do. If I want to feck off after the opening and completely ignore the main questline in Skyrim and instead play as a thief and assassin, I can. If I want to do every Daedric quest I can. If I want to concentrate on becoming the Thane of every hold I can. I don't have to do dozens of pointless side quests to experience good parts of the game right from the beginning. Skyrim is also a hell of a lot easier to mod than DAI.

It's boring and flat out annoying when more than 50% of your time needs to be invested in finding a way from A to B. The devs were either sadists laughing at all the idiots having to run around a hill for the 10th time because there was just another thing to pick up or they really took us for masochists finding pleasure in that. Ot they did that just for boosting the game time because if it was easy to find your way the game would actually be over in less than 20 hours.

Years after I watched few videos regarding is it worth it to play the game in 2023 and most of them are just saying that the game is great, so I thought that maybe my first opinion was wrong and started the game again. And, it's fucking boring and stupid. The only thing that makes me keep playing is the love to the LOR.

I recently finished DA:I with 100 hours invested. I liked the game a lot but it took me a couple of years and experiencing other games in its genre to finally understand how to play it. Previously i'd get to the Hinterlands, get bored and stop playing and now i'm on my second playthrough.
The game suffers heavily from bad story pacing and a lack of emphasis on regional storytelling. The fact that the whole war in the Hinterlands can be glossed over by rushing to gain the allegiance of the templars or mages is just bad. Putting an end to the conflicts yourself by fighting on the frontline, discovering either side's main camp and eliminating it is great for worldbuilding.
Power is also another problem in DA:I. It's way to abundant. I finished the game with over 100 power and nothing to spend it on. Frankly i feel nerfing power gain heavy could help the pacing and give players a chance to get a better grasp of the world and have some investment in it before the whole map opens up which is the next problem.
As soon as you complete Haven and get Skyhold you can go everywhere, which essentially means for a new and inexperienced gamer that you're going nowhere because you will have no idea where to start, can't feel invested in even the Hinterlands because nothing's happening anymore, no mages and templars to actually combat with and you've dropped the game to maybe try again next year.
Those are my gripes with the game. Frankly the design of most of the open world quests remind me of games like WoW Classic which i had to play and enjoy before i could understand their value in a game like DA:I.
I think the combat is good, music is great, artstyle is amazing and characters are well-defined, some a bit typical of modern-BioWare (LGBT stuff).
The story is great if you're a new gamer. It's nothing niche like dark fantasy, it's "babby's first fantasy story" with dark fantasy sprinkled around the edges and deeper within but yeah, i can see why some would call the game bland.
Game is best played on console too or at least with a controller. Shame they didn't give PC a better version but EA.

@@GreenWolf2k I recently tried DA2 after ragequitting console DA:O. It's actually a really well constructed game but thats only because of how short of a development length it had. Origins is really best played on PC and even then it might not be your cup of tea, but DA2 is well suited to console while still being very similar to Origins. I think if BioWare were honest about what kind of game DA2 was and priced it accordingly i think it would've been fondly remembered.

Next time you try to fill in a world that was out of the scope of the project remember to implement your predatory pay to skip option. Who knows maybe then the modders can create a mod that allows to skip that boring content for free. Win win.

I have 3 major complaints when it comes to this game.
    1) Pacing
    2) Magic
    3) Clothing/Armor
Starting with Pacing, the intro to the game feels like everything is going WAY too fast...which may be the point, but honestly its to the point where you barely even understand whats going on. But then after the intro is done and you enter The Hinterlands the game then begins to to slow to a crawl. I swear to god, I havent made it past the Hinterlands through most of my playthroughs because its fucking boring. I had a more enjoyable time in the Fade during DAO.
Secondly the magic system genuinly pisses me off. I love how they mention healing magic...but then they dont even allow it. Ive read reviews that said healing was too OP and the point of removing it was to make the player struggle....but Im sitting here thinking, why couldnt you just make it difficult to acquire healing magic then?!?! They didnt need to remove healing, they just couldve made it the last level up in the Spirit Magic Catagory. Removing it made me mad because it was such a necessity in all previous Dragon Age Games but then they go and remove it because "game mechanics." Its bullshit, the potion system is useless too...and making it past one enemy forces you to backtrack to refill the potions you used...EVERY...SINGLE...TIME...
You couldve simply kept healing in and made it difficult to acquire, that way when you got it it felt like you earned it. Completely removing it makes no sense and completely eliminates the point of Spirit Magic.
Plus lore wise it doesnt make sense, they may as well have just removed Mage from the entire game, because they are about as useful as a broken condom on a first date.
Finally, clothing fucking sucks in this game. I dont mind that they forced specific races and classes to wear specific clothing...but there is literally nothing good for the Qunari, or Dwarf, or Elf to wear. Most armors and clothing look really good on Humans....but when it comes to every other race, its like they just forgot to make clothing for them. There are Dwarf Helmets in the game....but no matching Dwarven armor. Qunari literally had to get a whole DLC because they had literally nothing to wear. And Elven Armor is ridiculous to look for.
And on a side rant here, the armor crafting and schematic system is a fucking joke. Just give me the armor im looking for, Im not wasting 30 mins looking for a piece of iron to make a shitty scout uniform. If the local shop doesnt sell it then Im not wasting my time making it. There is a reason that DAO is still the best...because its simple and respects the lore, its doesnt remove vital components for the sake of "game mechanics."
All in all, this game wasnt worth it.

I still haven't finished this game after 5+ years
Witcher 3 I spent weeks without sleeping playing that thing.
This guy nails all the point I noticed as soon as I stepped into the game.
Everyone says the Hinterlands is the issue - NO, the game just sucks major balls at a fundamental game design level.
Single player games are just that- there isn't many games outside racing and shooters that can have both modes.
Inquisiton gets massively cucked by its cookie cutter MMO bullshit sprinkled with Skyrim tropes. Skyrim is hot garbage, I'm an Elder Scrolls fan but Skyrim is only a glorified doll house experience. It came out during a crucial point (when anime and games went mainstream) so playing and praising Skyrim was the way to be part of the IT crowd.
It had potential but squander all of it by its fear of finding it's own identity. It holds on DA2 for plot, it copies popular trends in the industry (at the time) with no plan and panders to casuals with token designs for mechanics like Skyrim callbacks.
I only play Inquisition for the follow up on Origins characters (Alistair, Morrigan, Leiliana, Flemeth, Loghain) Hawke is nice but part of DA2 story is breaking away from the Blight and tell Hawke's story. It's why DA2 plays like some GrandTheft Auto story with Hawke. Cory coming back was bs, actually Hawke being tied to Blight and Darkspawn was bs to beign with - Mark of The Assassin is more in line with Hawke's adventures.
Inquisition should have just explored the world of Thedas in the aftermath of the past two games and not get involved in the doomsday plots of the past two games. Just focus on being an actual inquisition, go figure.

Corypheus is a meme bad guy. Solas being the enemy should have been in the main game and the dlc should have seen it through. If Corypheus was going to be that useless, then at least go more into Solas. The feeling I got after finishing Trespasser is I just played a prequel and not a real complete game.

I'm tired of playing MMOs but i feel like this will be as tedious as those games. kind of disappointing since even years later, it looks okay but it does the worst crime that rpg makes, bloated bullshit and artificial lengtheners. if i wanna play an MMO i will do so. i don't want it in a single player experience. repetitive side quest are for online games since it's difficult to sustain variety for live service video game. it's immersion breaking when you are doing a side quest just to grind level. other single player rpg makes side quest meaningful and not just for your character progression and just by watching the quest in the video, you are acknowledge by everyone as a powerful being but you are their errand boy.
