I never clicked on a video so fast! What a powerhouse performer. Back when singers used to BLOW on the MIC 🎤
Ikr lol.....Lisa is that beast, vocally!
Her singing was beyond phenomenal on this song!!
She's even better now. She's added so much more to her palate as a vocalist.
@@bolder2009I agree
@@bolder2009I agree
She could've easily been up there with the vocal trinity of the world. It would've been very interesting if she was more recognized for the talent and music she put out for the world to listen to. She's so painfully and criminally underrated, it hurts my soul. I've always loved her singing.
I readed that she decided to not be a mainstream singer and was confortable doing her things as a back vocalist.
@@aazed71 ....also she said in the documentary that the record label just did not contact her anymore about further solo work....of course she would have continued her solo career...they just stopped working with her...and she went back to doing her backup work.....primarily with the man who discovered her and they toured almost every year.....LUTHER....
I didn't know this. I'll have a look at the documentary. Thank u guys.
@@AmbioCompanyInc ...the documentary won the OSCAR ....for best documentary....it's one of the greatest films you will ever see....when on tour....LISA would sing her big hit....HOW CAN....while LUTHER would do a costume change...his concerts were just another DIMENSION...MASS HYPNOSIS....you could see people just ...literally FALLING OUT....the WHOLE NEW ORLEANS SUPERDOME......SUPERNATURAL....and LUTHER....and LISA....with the rest of his band would just wear us OUT...
@@GabrielGabriel-zq2ci I read that too.
Lisa Fischer has an amazing voice. Her husky low notes her rich middle register and light and powerful upper range and a ringing and bright bell like quality head voice. All from a full lyric coloratura soprano.
One of my all-time favorite soprano vocalists! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I urge everyone who is a fan of Lisa Fischer to see her live. It is an EXPERIENCE. Her voice is an instrument not to be believed. Just incredible!❤️👏🏾💯
I have seen her live at the Jazz Alley in Seattle. She was mesmerizing. One of the greatest concerts I have seen in my life.
Yesss! First "Emotions" and now "How Can I Ease the Pain". I'm loving these vocally demanding song breakdowns!
Lisa was featured in 20ft from stardom documentary and it seems she didn’t like all of the stuff you needed to do to be lead. We all missed out on hearing more from her as a solo singer
Love that movie - great singers!❤
I wish you could make this video a "Master Class" for the majority of the new singers out now, because most of them can't sing! They "sing" (whisper) on the same darn note "yeah yeah yeah" throat note) is in almost every song. I miss hearing true singers Lisa, Patti, Whitney, Gladys, Chaka, Barbra etc. nowadays.
THE LIVE VERSION WITH THE CONTROLLED WHISTLE IS DIVINE
It's not whistle it's superheadvoice
Major props to the legendary Narada Michael Walden for producing this masterpiece!
Thank you so much for recognizing Lisa! I’ve had the privilege of hearing her perform twice, as a solo artist and as a background artist for Nine Inch Nails in Nashville. Now, even through all of the special effects on stage with that industrial rock band, Lisa’s voice sho’nuff stood out and as Trent introduced her… I stood up and applauded. No one there knew who she was, but I was honored!!
How can you truly Explain a GOD Given VOICE?! Her Instrument is PERFECTION!!!
I'm weak at Lisa staying at the high notes the other soprano dolls could not maintain within a single expression. Sis felt that song.
The benefits of training your god given talents. That is why she had a very long vocal prime . Vocal Goddess 👑👸🏽
@@lyd2460 that's bc she's an actual soprano
@@DaddysLiquors no it’s because she actually trained her voice. Other sopranos or voice types don’t always long as last
@@justinbraylock757 sometimes they long as last sometimes they don't but no matter what happen to their voice they still a soprano because their voice is still center and sounds best in the upper middle for more specific(E5, F5 and G5)
@@rezaariel8406 yea in some cases
She sang her soul out on that song! ❤
ONE OF THEE MOST SENSUAL, SULTRY SENSATIONAL VOICES EVERR!!! THERE'S A REASON THE GREAT LUTHER VANDROSS CHOSE HER AS A BACKGROUND VOCALIST; SHE IS PHENOMENAL.... AND I HAD THE PLEASURE OF SEEING HER IN CONCERT WITH LUTHER.
Lisa Fischer is a Soprano Titan! Her album is an R&B classic.
Wow I didn’t know she trained as a coloratura. One of the few singers outside of opera to sing in the upper 6th octave in head voice alongside Deniece Williams and Susaye Greene, who have distinctly lighter voices.
Even without those highs How Can I Ease the Pain is a vocal masterclass. Incredible, emotive singing throughout.
With her extreme agility and range with her warm and bright but still womanly voice not girly but coloratura abilities makes her a full lyric coloratura soprano
Im i the only one that prefers the E6 run ? It sounds incredible
You're not alone. Her voice shines so much within C6-E6. The E5 jump to E6 run during the second climax toward the end of the song is epic as well.
My FAVORITE of all time. Absolutely untouchable! 😭❤️🔥🙌
Lisa does Two really high notes in this song’s bridge, not just the one in the video. Then she plays around with the high notes as the song is ending. She is absolute perfection on this song.
Lisa has always been just....whew. But those clips of the operatic singers??? Just splendid.
Lisa is a living legend in her own right. She still performs How Can I ease the to this day accept she can't hit the high notes anymore because shes in her 50's. I wish she would've did one more album. Lisa was featured in a documentary but i forgot the name of it...Thank you for doing this video Malik i really appreciate it. I hope you can do a video on Tamar Braxton, Al Green and the late Betty Wright
was it 7 feet from stardom? or it could've been 10 feet. some # feet from stardom lol
@@downbytheC Yeah thats the one i rented on here a good while back....thanks for pointing that out
P
Shes in her 60s...still sounds amazing
I wish she did 3 albums so we could put her with the rest of the trinity and get an All Black trinity 😭❤️
Yassssss. We were waiting. This song is like a lesson in how to execute the most dramatic and sensual of goddess vocality. She did what she had to do throughout the entire song. I wish she had more of a career.
This song is a vocal masterpiece. It makes me feel like I'm being seduced by a beautiful goddess in a Japanese garden especially after she speaks in Japanese after the song comes on 😂😂😂😂 I love Lisa and she was phenomenal in Change with Luther Vandross
That makes sense, especially since she is a goddess of music.
@@richzero0 ....thank you....i ...in the back of my mind always wanted to know what she was saying....
Wonderful video! A High E is still very high! And she sounds so much confortable on this note.
Awesome analysis of Lisa's vocals. I also love her work with the Rolling Stones
One of the best vocalist ever
Great video. I admire how she technically handles the bridge, but I love how she uses different range to tell this songs story. It’s haunting and a story that we all know.
It's unheard of to hear a woman with the power of a dramatic soprano being able to settle her power enough to sound angelic as well just listen to her song (O come al ye faithful) this woman can do anything with her voice.
I'm suspecting that this video was made upon many requests from previous videos including my request. Once I discovered this song, I listen to it almost every day. This song is a whole discography of Lisa for entire century.
I just love her voice! I read somewhere that she preferred being a background singer to being in the spotlight.
....LISA...has always struck me as someone who is so trained and polished....with an immense LOVE for the WORK...and the CULTURE of SINGING and SHOW BUSINESS....she is also very STRIKING....and her SENSUALITY and RANGE in her choices about what comes through in her voice....and the ultimate.....SHE IS A HAM....she is so PROJECTING TO THE BACK ...TO THE CHEAP SEATS.......she will ENGAGE....she will be the one having the most FUN on STAGE....a SUPERIOR TALENT...and TRUE ENTERTAINER....who is performing like she is your BEST FRIEND...another testament to her artistry...is that...EVERYONE in the BUSINESS....KNOWS HER...everyone in the business WANTS HER....she is so GREAT....that she is a SEVERE CRITICISM of EVERYTHING....RIGHT....and WRONG....with the MUSIC INDUSTRY....
Oh my God Lisa Fisher is phenomenal 😍
One of my favorite songs…and the most difficult song to cover as recorded
I got dumped when that song came out…, it was drama, crying, in pain…. I needed help…. I want to scream…. She explained….she eased my pain..,thanks Lisa.
Need a video like this for tenors , bass and baritones.
One of the greatest vocal displays, and one of the greatest ballads. Love Lisa! ❤
I hopped onto UA-cam to look up something else, and when I saw this on the home page said, "Oooooh, you know this gonna be good!" lol
I was literally just listening to this master piece today!
One of my fave songs by one of the best singers ever!
Lisa’s voice has amazed me since I first heard it. What a truly outstanding gift I’m so happy I get to experience in my life.
What a single 💯
What a voice ✔️
Amazing breakdown and now I don't feel bad that I can't do that note... Not sure I was ever able to but still... ❤️
wish you could do more on male voices! love your content btw, really informative and as objective as it can be
How can I ease the pain is the best vocal performance on a song ever
She is insane. Sooooooooooooo talented!!!!!!!❤️🔥✨
I truly enjoyed your commentary on this song and singer. I now have a better understanding as to why when she sings this song today, why she is unable to replicate those same notes in her younger years. Thank you for explaining it so eloquently.
One of the most phenomenal singers I ever heard ❤
This is one of my favorite songs of all time!
Lisa is no joke, periodt❤❤❤
This is one of the bests songs EVER!!!
Tamar Braxton reintroduced me to this spectacular song and singer. Great video as usual
Hi, I almost broke my finger trying to click on your video. Love Lisa Fisher.
Would you mind doing Alicia Meyer- I Want To Thank You?
And for all of your hard work, 🎶 I want to thank you 🎶
Well explained concepts 🙇🙇... I was actually thinking the E6 was the highest note in the song
Outstanding content as always! Thanks for helping us all understand how our favs do what they do best!
Many of them still didnt get their flowers, like Lisa Fischer. Like she's still with us so what gives??????? Also, only Anita Pointer of the Pointer Sisters is still alive yet we don't see her getting her flowers for her work with her sisters too like WHY? When Ruth Pointer passed on earlier this year, there was barely any coverage of it nor any tributes at all!
Anita passed last December, not Ruth.
@@bskeete oh my, YES! Thank you for that 🙆🏾♂️

@@BlackMusicArchive ....i have seen her on tour with....smile....LUTHER....several times...and with the ROLLING STONES....again several times....and not only was she able to kill the songs and notes....she also has such a sense of DRAMA.....PROJECTION....and STAGECRAFT......she was ALWAYS....SERVING THE CHILDREN....lol...and that is what you paid your hard earned money for.....and wore YOUR GIORGIO ARMANI SUIT FOR......the elegant drama...the GOWNS....the HAIR....the BEAT FACE....the HEELS....the LIGHTS...the ELEGANT SETS.....the BEADED SUITS....that's why LUTHER always sold out his tours...he gave us entertainment at the highest level in R and B music....since he has always said that his singing and of course his backup singers were actually elongating speech using a lot of breath instead of belting....i could see how LISA was able to maintain her technique on the road with him....however i was amazed to see how she maintained with the ROLLING STONES....CHAKA...and TINA......year...after year....after year....for decades....love her....she still today pushes the boundaries of what a soprano can do in music..with her jazz fusion group...i of course see where her range is ...different ...however she lives in the dimension of unlimited possibility ....so she always...always....surprises me.......a real technically trained ARTIST...with WIT...and a bit of a HAM...LOVE HER....

Especially the high mix voice
Awesome video

Thank you, very informative.
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@BlackMusicArchive I've learned so much from your videos!!
How Can I Ease The Pain was my joint
The 90s trinity better thank their lucky stars, Lisa Fischer didn't want to pursue a solo career beyond her debut album. Lisa Fischer might have been older than Mariah, Whitney & Celine, but she would given them a run for their money
Great analysis, I just don’t know why you included Celine as an example of a Mezzo Soprano tho. She’s a very textbook Soprano to me.
Great video as usual. Just 1 thing, Lisa was 32 when this album released not 33.
STREAM HER ALBUM!
Mariah is a mezzo idk why she calls herself an alto and ppl call her a soprano, she’s a mezzo
Can you do a video on Chante Moore
I love this channel
But I wonder why we can’t hear more male singers evaluated?
There are a few especially from the gospel genre that have that bel canto like approach
Especially some of the big baritone voices like my soul is anchored
Anyway keep doing what you are doing
Can you please analyze the voices of TLC?
❤
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Have you done one on Kathleen Battle or Jessye Norman.
Great song and Lisa sung it great! But your last point, I got it. Your voice type is your voice type and you should expect it to do what it does, but what else can you do skillfully and impressively with your voice beyond your voice type.
when will male counter tenors be showcased?
I could sing a c6 when I was in my 20s and whistle not in my 30s but my voice is stronger
Is the G6 the same as the "Mariah Note"?
I think it's not because the difference between mariah and lisa is that mariah already transition into her whistle note on her G6 note you can't count that because whistle register is a disconnected register while lisa using headvoice and headvoice still count because it's connected with chest voice and your natural voice
lisa, Minnie, shanice, mariah Carey chante moore, each whistle
Lisa didn't do whistle she is using headvoice have you really watched this video?that G6 was a headvoice
@@rezaariel8406 yes I did she still has that register
Is that the only song she sings ?
Why do you consider Céline a Mezzo-Soprano ?
I find it interesting because, most specialists consider Céline a Soprano but Céline herself said " je suis mezzo-soprano " I.e., "I am a mezzo-soprano".
Hello, the answer to your question can be found in the sections, "The Mezzo Soprano in Pop Music," and "The Soprano Voice" section of the video between 1:08 and 2:00. A soprano voice is most comfortable and has the stamina to sustain lines of E5 F5 G5 A5 (the upper middle) before scaling off into the high range Bb5 and beyond.
In your typical Celine Dion arrangement an E5 or F5 is the high note, and she generally hits it once, she doesn't stay there, and this is not taking into account the constant downward transpositions she does (i.e. dropping "All By Myself" down from F to Eb).
If Celine is dropping keys to avoid hitting Eb5 E5 or F5, that would indicate those are "high notes" for her and the high notes for a Mezzo-Soprano begin at Eb5 E5 or F5 (it varies by the singer).
And most importantly Celine has been trained, can read, write, and arrange and most importantly she is the one singing her music, I believe she knows her voice better than me, a youtube commenter, or a vocal coach doing reaction videos.
If you would like to learn more about the soprano voice or the difference between a soprano and a mezzo-soprano, check out, "EXPLAINED: The Soprano Voice." The lecture is taught by world-renowned, grammy award-winning soprano Leona Mitchell. There is an entire section dedicated to Whitney, Mariah, and Celine.

@@BlackMusicArchive is this info true for men but an octave lower?
@@sophisitcated1194 Yes, the male counterparts of the female voice types sit an octave apart. This is talked about in "EXPLAINED: Phyllis Hyman."
@@BlackMusicArchive thank you. Going to look at that next.
