All laugh at SpaceX: ""Starship is a joke"" but Elon's response is big slap to...
In 2016, when Elon Musk showed off his brainchild Starship as well as his dream of multi-planetary life to the World.
This really caused a fierce debate in the space community with an overwhelming number of people attacking Musk. Most of those come from the politicians.
“Starship is a joke, will never fly”, they said.
All laugh at SpaceX: ""Starship is a joke"" but Elon's response is big slap to...Not only because they did not trust Musk, but most of all they feared that the development of a private space company could turn the tables, usurping the monopoly of the legacy companies from which they benefit.
And finally, that nightmare has come true.
Starship is now so famous while the successor agency's space launch system turned out to be a literal joke.
So, how has SpaceX used the reversed card in the political game?
Find out everything in today's episode of Techmap.
All laugh at SpaceX: ""Starship is a joke"" but Elon's response is big slap to...
In 2020 while SpaceX was quietly testing Starship prototypes in low-altitude test flights, someone shared that:
“Starship is a joke - from the material selection to the construction principle to the aerodynamic shape for re-entry. Not to mention third-world style assembly of hardware literally on a beach.
Building a fly-back booster stage is one thing. Building a manned, re-usable re-entry vehicle is a few leagues above Elon Musk, and probably above SpaceX as well.

Haha, everyone laughed, that the Starship would never fly, they said, Elon Musk is a joker. In reality Starship has made three flights and is already preparing for the fourth flight in May-June.

3 flights and what else, it cant even get to the moon, its just a joke

The first customer launches will be roughly the cost of the rocket as though planning to expend it. With the vehicle already paid for, reusing it for Starlink launches is almost free by comparison.

The engineering problems will be solved and the milestones will continue to be passed. Re-entry and soft landing appear to be the main problems now facing Starship developers. The booster "boost back" and soft landing are next up for the Superheavy team. Then, the catch operations for each will be done. In orbit refueling will open the way to lunar orbit.
Yes, it is taking longer than Elon Musk predicted but progress is being made.

Absolutely. We see they have been doing step by step, slower little bit but efficiently

Well I'm thinking Elon out to reinvest in his rocket manufacturing to make them even more Dependable than what they are. And I was thinking about what it would take to put gas shocks on the landing gear ⚙️ of the heavy so they could land like the Falcon rockets.

Businesses need to make a profit, Yes. But you charge as much over cost as you can. Once you are making a profit, then next step is to go as high as the market will bear that maximizes TOTAL PROFITS. If the competition that are in the heavy lift market are charging $1 B. Then SpaceX should not be charging $2-3 M. Then should charge maybe double or triple of what Falcon 9's launch for: $ 200 M. At 200, SpaceX would vastly underprice other medium /heavy lift options. I think the Falcon 9 is the cheapest per pound launch vehicle at about $2,500. So price Starship at $7,500 per pound with a minimum payload. Keep all three models in Service Falcon 9 for lower weights, FH for larger weights at $3-4000 per pound, then Starship at $7,500 per pound. This undercuts ALL competition, and prevent any other companies from breaking into the market (profit driven market). There will always be National Flag programs. Those won't be competitive on the open market. Only leaving Ego Driven projects (Blue Origin). SpaceX will own the launch market until someone comes up with a method to launch that does require so much weight for fuel.

The joke is on the detractors. SpaceX has developed and twice successfully flown the world's largest expendable rocket. Got a 120 ton satellite you need to launch?

    • @Supraboyes
      @Supraboyes Місяць тому

erm but he said it can only carry 40 to 50 tonnes, while the falcon heavy can carry 70...

why attack innovators, you should be encouraging. That's how we move forward as a race off people. Even if it failed it's thinking forward, and even parts off it are advanced stop the hate

2 Million per launch for Starship is a crazy, unsupported and not a credible figure. The launch pad has to be demonstrated to survive,TPS has to survive reentry, the vehicle has to be demonstrated to landing and to be turned around. There is zero evidence so far that this is doable, and actually, evidence to the contrary.
I will be very impressed if Starship can be turned around in one week..

Too much superficiality. Get believable. When 2 brothers got tired of fixing pushbikes noone thought they would invent manned flight. Yes the Wright brothers. Guess what happened as more innovations followed over 100 plus years? Who cares about traditional competitors doing things by copying as opposed to innovating. Boeing and ULA the Russians ,Chinese and others have had a wake up call. Space X rules. Elon leads but the Space X teams work it out under the excellent organisation of the mighty Gwynne Shotwell.

so you dare to compare the SLS to a joke....... with such a cost per launch???
the word that comes to me is rather disaster than joke
as for the match between the new glenn of blue origin against the StarShip of SpaceX
it's the beautiful waking dream of one (and ZERO times above the Karmann line) compared to the concrete advances of the other (and 300 + successful launches into orbit)
    dreamware versus hardware
