Monochrome is inspired by internal reflections on love and loss, making it a deeply personal album. Cavanagh elaborates: “The album has a late night, candlelit feeling, evoking the light of dusk as the summer sun sinks below the horizon, setting the scene for thoughts and meditations that many people will relate to.
“A lot of this material could easily have made it on to the last Anathema album or any future album; that's how highly the band rate it. There are several highlights: "The Exorcist" and "The Silent Flight of the Raven Winged Hours" are among some of my best works of the last decade. Taking them from the band was not an easy decision but I am glad; they're so personal as to not need more input.”
Riding the waves of his success with Anathema’s latest album The Optimist, Daniel has also brought in Anneke Van Giersbergen - ex-vocalist for The Gathering, who has since sung with Devin Townsend, Árstíðir, Anathema and Arjen Lucassen - and the exceptionally talented Anna Phoebe provides also violin on three of the album tracks.

When this was released, I was mourning the love of my life.... I'm grateful for this mans anthem to his missed.
Simply by being the expressive artist that he is, it inspires me to do same and live in that truth. There's powerful nuance that music can communicate!
About blaming Anathema for the change in their style compared to this song, It is simply because the band is always keen on trying new things. First, the band gave up sorrowful suicidal lyrics in favor of brighter hopeful ones, along came the change of musical genre towards a more progressive/alternative touch, then came the trial of electronic loops which I think the band mastered very well, and now there is an added layer of orchestration.
The band is simply "Progressing", and this is something to praise the band for. All songs cannot be like this one (although it is very beautiful) as this will make the band extremely repetitive.
OMG if that is the real account, why don't you ever think of coming to Egypt? you have a HUGE fan base here.
Maybe a concert in the pyramids area would be something to remember :)
I have to be honest, I never really liked Anathema until Vincent took over on main vocals, that for me was a game changer, they started to really progress as song writers and the music became much more stronger and interesting to me. This is really powerful work from Danny, I shall look forward to the album with eager anticipation as I do with Anathema. Bless.

I totally understand what you say. Anathema with Vincent is totally different. During Darren White days they were a normal Doom/Death band.
But luckily it was Vincent as a front man for most of their history. He took over starting 1995.
Yeah I actually saw them with Darren when they gigged with My Dying Bride, The doom stuff had its moment but after he left they started to grow as an international band.
i never blamed them,but they're better while doing sad songs than optimist songs...and many fans probably think the same.
He tried to commit suicide last month.

I have always believed in the notion of the "songwriter". I believe the songwriter is the heart and soul of a band even though he might not be the frontman. Danny is one the best songwriters just because he understands beauty in simplicity. This is a beautiful piece of art aiming straight to the heart..

Yes I am old school Anathema loving and love heavy and Melodic doom. While I really enjoyed songs like Untouchable 2 the live version, they never captured the magic in my opinion of their past splendour. But............ I cannot stop listening to this and some of the other songs. This song is stellar, amazing...everything that once was. Its the emotion................just amazing.

I knew I wasn't the only one with that thought!
It was written in the same week as Are you there. Just took over 16 years for it to be completed.
So he still can write songs like this. I wonder why didnt he write for the optimist. Imo this is better than the optimist. This is what i actually expect from Anathema. (Just my opinion. Probably nobofy gives a shit.)
This song was written in the times of Natural Disaster, no wonder sounds so much Anathema-like. I hate to b*tch about anyone's music, especially about my beloved Anathema, but yes, the Optimist is far below Danny's composing abilities. Well, next album will be better :)
The majority of the songs on The Optimist were written or co-written by Danny. What are you talking about he didn't write for The Optimist?
What was wrong with The Optimist? I think it's the best since Judgement by a mile, along with the 2015 version of AFDTE.
Lowe 2005 The optimist is one of Anathemas weakest albums
The Optimist is a really great album, much better than Distant Satellites. The problem with it is that you can't point out a single hit out of the whole package, still it is definitely a great ride at its entirety.

The Optimist is a good album... But...but... This song is much warmer, more personal and more touching than everything "happy albums" after A Natural Disaster. Sorry, Dan. (or take it as a compliment ;)

It was originally written in 2000 when I was still angry at my dad. I changed the lyrics but kept the title on Vincent’s suggestion

No sólo recuerdo cada vez que escucho esta canción a la mujer que amo por la emocionalidad de la canción, sino porque conocí esta pieza mientras me enamoré de esta mujer. Doblemente me debilita esta canción.
Listening to Daniel's music, I feel blessed that I met him in person, shook his hand and got his autograph. His music has profoundly influenced Anathema, naturally, but listening to his own songs it's just enjoying a pure form of the master himself.
Better than any song from last anathema album.
It would be even better with Vincent and Lee vocals.

This is so goood! both in this record as well as Live. And most of all it keeps growing and growing everytime I hear it.
This song seems to me like an evolution of One Last Goodbye, seems like he is asking to his mom if she like swhat she sees from where "he can't be today" and from where he can't "feel the person as well". But contrarily to the sorrow present in the other song, this one he is like trying to show to her where he arrived and hoping she would be proud of him. Maybe I am totally wrong, but is what I feel and see myself doing the same with this song.

1:37 reminds me of Endless Ways and then there is Are you there? in this song as well. Daniel is the most underrated musician out there. He is a magician rather. He know how to touch souls with his music and that is what matters.
My favorite band. The whole catalog from the very beginning is so phenomenal. The entire band is so damn talented. The guitars and the melodies are so special. Beautiful music. Truly something special.
