Wow! The Caddy is the winner for me. The '41 Pontiac Deluxe steering wheel is the icing on the cake! It's probably my favorite wheel of all. These early customs were so tasteful. Later on it got ridiculous.

That Cadillac is a beautiful car. Without a chopped roof it would've looked like a factory car. Just amazing work. And done in the late 40's. Just beautiful

That Caddy tho - can’t buy that kind of cool. Too bad the steering wheel needs to be re-seated, it’s all crooked when going straight. The owner is a cool cat tho.

He could just pop the cotter-pin on the steering rack and reset the shaft, too. It'd be easier than pulling the wheel. That might even be where the problem started.

Thinking the same thing. So much work and attention to detail not to get the steering wheel straight! haha

Ok...someone school me on this. With a "piano hood", how do you work on the drivers side of the engine? Does it have hinges on both sides so you can raise one side or the other. I know it's not split, so how does it work?

Hinges on both sides. You can open it either way. Kinda cool.

Classic car hoods that open from the side have been nicknamed piano hoods (aka grand piano hoods) as they open from the side like a grand piano with a prop rod that holds then up. They are typically designed with special kind of hinges where there are two protrusions/pegs on each side of the engine compartment. The hood has two pegs/protuberances on each side. When the hood is closed, these four pegs fit into four holes (two on each side) and this holds the hood in place horizontally so it doesn’t slide around when the car is moving, with it’s weight the only thing holding it down. Because these are not traditional hinges they allow the hood to be lifted up from either side of the engine compartment and they also allow you to completely remove the hood for even fuller access (you’ll need a second person to help you with that thought). The hood’s prop rod is different from typically modern prop prods in that it’s secured to the engine compartment dead center in the back side near the windshield (as seen in this vid) rather to the left or right side as with most modern cars and it can be swung to either side to be inserted either of two prop holes the hood (one on each side) depending on which side of the hood is lifted.
