Editors note: You can’t add a second lead acid battery if you already have one. You’ll need to buy two new batteries. The new battery will severely damage the old battery.
The Output of the charging system to the batteries is measured in Amperage not Wattage. If you need to charge your battery bank faster you increase the Amperage Output of your charging system.
Lol Hello keyboard warrior. As you know data plates are not specific nor is there a code to provide specific information,. While amps is a rating so is watts. To say they are NOT rated in watts when its watts law that we use is kind of silly. You are speaking preferences which does NOT change the outcome. The question was can they add a 2nd battery to their system and not damage their converter or charger. The answer is no, it will only take longer to add. The Beard
@@NationalRVTrainingAcademy To use watts here is to disregard the voltage of the system, which is kind of important and a factor you should have, but didn't touch on at all. What if they wired that second battery in series to make it a 24v system?
Found your video while looking for how to hook up my Duramax to a cTec battery tender for two batteries no videos out there for that, this would be the same thing basically .👍
Great video Todd. How much power is the controller providing to the batteries? Would it be better and faster to have a stand alone battery charger connected to the batteries for a faster charge?
2-12v batteries in parallel. One has disconnect switch to use that battery only for power while camping to charge phones, run mini fans, ect. Minimal power. Reconnect when leaving camp. Is this ok? Will it damage or mess up the vehicle's charging system?
one subject regarding rv batteries is charging while driving, particularly a trailer. does a typical 7 pin connector supply sufficient power to recharge a trailer battery using the vehicle alternator while driving?
Todd, what about DC to DC chargers from Truck to Trailer/FW, I converted from LA to LifePo4. I bought a Victron 12/12 30amp because I was concerned that the smaller gauge wire in the 7-way plug might get too hot?
We just bought our brand new RV in August and decided to add a second battery after 3 months. Is the battery that came with the RV too old already to add a second battery? Thanks in advance!
Thanks for the info. Last month we bought a used 2006 Attitude toy hauler from our friend and he said the battery charger stopped working when it overload and never got the chance to fix it. For the past month we've been using an plug in external battery charger since we got it. This is our first time owning an RV and we're looking for a practical way to charge way to charge the 2 battery that comes with it. Do you recommend solar panel to charge the 2 batteries instead of fixing the old battery charger that came with it? And if so, will it be okay to plug in the 30A at the same time? Thanks!
I just purchase two 12V 125AH AGM batteries. With a Charging Current between 8A-35A and a Charging Voltage of 14.4-14.9V and a Float Voltage of 13.5V-13.8V. They will be connected in parallel, can I use a 45 amp charger? If not how do I make the calculation on how many amps are suffice for this type of setup? Thx!
@@NationalRVTrainingAcademy Thanks for responding, but what is the calculation to use it I would like to use a 50Amp charger or higher? I'm not understanding, just saying it is fine seems a little vague.

Question for yall, I keep having my CO detector going off in my trailer, I have no gas on or appliances. Not staying in it at the moment its just sitting in front of the house, batteries are completely charged and windows have been open. Is this the CO detector failing. It was also 100 degrees here and could high temps in the trailer set it off? Thanks in advance.
@@the_anxiousphotographer If low battery, it will chirp . Mine has gone off if an adult beverage has been spilled.... Alcohol will set it off. Alcohol wipes will do it also..
The year of the model doesn't necessarily determine how new the detectors are. It's not uncommon for a newer RV to have a Co detector that's 3+ years old. the back of the CO detector has a date it was made.
If I am hooked up to shore power in the campground if I add two more batteries will my electrical system work right or do I need to change the inverter to a bigger one my heater would not start but the fan came on And my bump outs would not close in our 5 wheel until I jumped it with the truck and I was hooked up to shore power at the campground 30 A put my trailer does call for 50 A Will adding more batteries solve the problem or should I change to a bigger converter. Thank you
Adding more batteries just increases the capacity not the voltage. The only reason to go to larger charger / converter is if you upgrade to Lithium batteries. If you are having issues with your 120v house power then that problem isn't associated with the batteries.

If new batteries are bought a month apart , is that ok ?
Thanks for the lesson we were in the process of adding another battery to my son's camper
Thank you! I have asked a similar question and found no plausible answer until now and you confirmed what I already suspected so thank you thank you!

How do I step up the charger? Better solar panel??
Can you do one on the two 6 volt batteries vs the one 12 volt?
Great tech tip!
Thanks... Great video
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.

Can I put two chargers on a sequence of three batteries?

Water tap if over loaded will not be damaged
Cars electrical alternator once over loaded will be damaged
Whats the comparison?
Thanks great info
Is the answer the same if say I was installing two 6 volt batteries?

I have 3 parallel batteries in my 5th wheel. Can I charge them with an outside charger while still connected?
My battery only works my lights but not my outlets what is the issue. Please help.
Typically 110v outlets require that you run your generator or be plugged into shore power in order to work.

I have 20 batteries, 100 lithium ion in batteries apiece. Am I doing anything wrong?
No. Jit will be very hard to keep them balanced. A lot of maintenance and rebalancing will need to be done monthly.

No need. They won't conflict with each other.
