The best part of the party is Kazuma is actually quite heroic, he even died thinking he was saving somebody from a truck. He's a sleeze and he's constantly frustrated by everyone else but when push comes to shove he is probably the catalyst that brings out the best in his dysfunctional teammates
Aqua has high stats for the most part, however she attacked the giant toads which have immunity to both Water and Blunt attacks. 9:43 - Megumin is based on Rikka from Love, Chuunibyou, and other Delusions. Kazuma’s Party is based on the classic Party build tropes: Glass Cannon, Tank that likes getting hit and cannot attack, Jack of All Trades and master of none, and Healer that fights on the frontline (Megumin, Darkness, Kazuma, and Aqua.) Darkness’s name is based on the Final Fantasy Status Ailment (basically Blind.) Darkness is based on Monster Musume’s centaur knight, despite most believing that she’s based on Saber. 17:43 - Megumin and Kazuma are only 2-ish years apart (around 13-14 and 16.) Steal is 100% random, but Kazuma’s high Luck always makes sure he gets what the target values the highest (not to be confused with what Kazuma wants, as Megumin’s pantsu wasn’t what he planned on stealing.) There’s more proof of this, but you haven’t gotten to Season 2, so I can’t reference that yet. The Guild Lady is named Luna and she was created for the anime, but was added in later in the LN (the mohawk guy in the anime is anime only/not in the LN and is just a glorified extra named Ruffian in Japanese, both of these characters have well-known VAs, which is why they exist in the anime.) Aqua is based on Haqua from Oh My Goddess and Chris is based on Sinon from Sword Art Online, in case you were wondering. Megumin’s chants are ad-libbed, in the LN it’s basically just her saying ‘Explosion.’ Didn’t include this in my previous comment, but each Season covers two novels (Season 1 is Books 1 & 2, Season 2 is Books 3 & 4, the movie is Book 5, and Explosion Side Story will likely cover 3 books.) While Season 3 is undetermined, we can assume it’ll cover Books 6 & 7.

I say implied, because the author isn’t going to come out in an interview and say that on the internet that Kazuma is based on an infamous character or open themself up to people who would use that information.
Fun fact: Megumin speaks in the keigo form of Japanese. It's old fashioned and often only used around people more important than oneself. That Japanese Man Yuta has a great video about it I highly recommend. Once you learn about Megumin's background, it makes a ton of sense as to why she uses this form of Japanese. Edit: it's why Kazuma asks if she's just making fun of him at 6:11, because she's being absurdly formal to him, who is, essentially, an equal at a first meeting.
Fun fact: cabbages have a specific history in anime, with poorly animated cabbages being something that became an issue that got discussed by government officials. The added subtext on the cabbage invasion is “look how many cabbages we had to animate perfectly…” I wish I was making this cabbage thing up.
Discovering the best girl Megumin, huh ? Her development is deeper than it first seem, and she's pretty much carrying the whole show passed a certain point. Truly not just a female Kazuma, but not so far from it.

I love the dynamic within this Party. It's not like ur regular game like Isekai where all the girls simp for a clueless op mc. They feel like a genuine group of friends, they complete each other not just in the obvious way but on a deeper mental level. They're my favorite friend group in anime after Yorozuya and The Strawhat Pirats
Most people don't notice, but the designs of the girls are really on point for who they are. Just as a simple example the armour Darkness wears has gold lining that follows the body's shape. But it also looks like a bondage rope tying her torso. People like Mother's Basement have whole videos on it. Also the anime leans in more on the comedy than the action, so we get to skip some of Kazuma's more badass moments. It's for the better, but he really it the straight man of the group.

Several things you won't see in the anime compared to the manga, their level isn't really spoken of and the class kazuma has. Adventurer is like that class you take after you level all the other jobs because you can use the skills from other jobs. Their level is mostly not spoken of but they actually get rather high level through the series. Megumin spent all her points on explosion, and mana passives to support being able to cast explosion, darkness didn't increase her accuracy because she likes getting embarrassed she can't hit anything, Aqua, besides healing, is actually useless and no one can change my mind on that.
God Blow is actually a strong attack, the problem is Aqua used it on the wrong opponent. Giant toads aren´t that big of a deal but they have one special ability: They´re immune to water element attacks. And basically all attack magic Aqua does is water type. Bad luck.
@@Hanmacx Not the whole party, Kazuma has decent INT and high LCK. Aqua has high everything except low INT and the lowest LCK score possible. Presumably Megumin has high INT, being a mage, but low WIS (booksmart, streetdumb), and Darkness minmaxed for END, but probably has otherwise average scores, she just doesn't bother using her brain half the time.
Just in case if you're confused by the monetary system, it's basically equal to Japanese yen. Just remove 2 zeros from the back and you'll get rough idea of how much it would be in USD (it's innaccurate nowadays with the inflation and such, but still, a pretty simple and fast way to calculate XD)
If you've ever watched 'Slayers' then Megumi's Explosion spell cast might seem similar to Lina Inverse's spell 'Dragon Slave". I feel Megumi is a bit of an homage to Lina.
Kind of a theme with this series is on paper all these characters except Kazuma are pretty good. Like Aqua is a talented priest with crazy high abilities but she's too stupid to use them effectively. Like the god blow would hit hard but she uses it against a creature that is basically immune to the type of damage it causes. Then she's too dumb to get useful skills so she wastes all her points on party tricks. Darkness has redicoulsly high durability and strength so she is a good tank, but her accuracy is so low, she can't hit anything. Megumi is a great mage but she's basically using a spell meant for a lv 100 character at lv 1. Kazuma is the best person in the party really only because he's balanced, and he knows how to plan. That and he doesn't have some weird fetish that drags him down besides the fact his a jerk. Oh, the reason he keeps stealing panties is because of his stupidly high luck stat. Which kind of plays into he's strengths later on but he's not trying to still panties off of people. Just when it does happen, well, you know...........
What I love about this show is that the girls, as useless as they are, are exactly what Kazuma needs, their personalities match each other so well, it's so we'll written
This worlds economy makes no sense. When they hunted the giant toads, it was said that their meat is in demand, yet you get only 5k per toad. Who the fuck in that world would pay twice as much for a small cabbage, that would be one meal for a family, compared to a giant toad that would last that family for weeks if not more. That's like paying 50 bucks for truckload of meat and 100 for 5-6 bananas.
To be fair Kazuma is useless too until one of the girls becomes bait. And he didn't do much during the cabbage fight. He just appears better because hes the most "sane". On their own they're all kind of useless but together they... well they somewhat manage to kill a few toads and some cabbages as you can see. xD
Her god blow is actualy very strong, but was a bad type matchup. Aqua is also pretty broken power wise, but she so stupid she failes to use her ability to the fullest.

@TheWingedSerpent page time doesn't matter. Iris is especially well fleshed out for the role she plays. I don't give any female an advantage because they're in the main cast. That's like saying MiraJane can't be best girl in FT because she's not Lucy, Erza, or Wendy (none of those 4 hold a candle to Juvia, though). To the same point, page time would require useless Sakura to be best girl, and that's laughable. Rem doesn't get near the page time of Emilia, but there are comment wars over them.
One thing that you may not realize at this point.... Chris the thief is literally the goddess Eris.... she comes down to adventure and chill with her peeps unlike Aqua who never came down probably.

However, that is a huge spoiler being disclosed since they haven't even met Eris and it hasn't been disclosed in the anime. That's twice in these comments so far. Why so people want to share this? I was spoiled myself when I first watched it, and I'm not generally too worried about those types of spoilers for my enjoyment. However others are. And the little hints given out in the LNs and starting so far in the anime would have made it much more fun to speculate.

Several things you won't see in the anime compared to the manga, their level isn't really spoken of and the class kazuma has. Adventurer is like that class you take after you level all the other jobs because you can use the skills from other jobs. Their level is mostly not spoken of but they actually get rather high level through the series. Megumin spent all her points on explosion, and mana passives to support being able to cast explosion, darkness didn't increase her accuracy because she likes getting embarrassed she can't hit anything, Aqua, besides healing, is actually useless and no one can change my mind on that.

God Blow is actually a strong attack, the problem is Aqua used it on the wrong opponent.
Giant toads aren´t that big of a deal but they have one special ability: They´re immune to water element attacks.
And basically all attack magic Aqua does is water type. Bad luck.
Love this show. Ended up getting the books. Season 3 would be like 6 and 7. Books go to 17. Here’s hoping for lots of seasons.

It's funny because, on paper, their party is incredible. In reality however, not so much.

@@Hanmacx Not the whole party, Kazuma has decent INT and high LCK. Aqua has high everything except low INT and the lowest LCK score possible. Presumably Megumin has high INT, being a mage, but low WIS (booksmart, streetdumb), and Darkness minmaxed for END, but probably has otherwise average scores, she just doesn't bother using her brain half the time.
Just in case if you're confused by the monetary system, it's basically equal to Japanese yen. Just remove 2 zeros from the back and you'll get rough idea of how much it would be in USD (it's innaccurate nowadays with the inflation and such, but still, a pretty simple and fast way to calculate XD)
In Pokemon I named my Electrode Megumin, because her only attack is Explosion.
If you've ever watched 'Slayers' then Megumi's Explosion spell cast might seem similar to Lina Inverse's spell 'Dragon Slave". I feel Megumi is a bit of an homage to Lina.

Kind of a theme with this series is on paper all these characters except Kazuma are pretty good. Like Aqua is a talented priest with crazy high abilities but she's too stupid to use them effectively. Like the god blow would hit hard but she uses it against a creature that is basically immune to the type of damage it causes. Then she's too dumb to get useful skills so she wastes all her points on party tricks. Darkness has redicoulsly high durability and strength so she is a good tank, but her accuracy is so low, she can't hit anything. Megumi is a great mage but she's basically using a spell meant for a lv 100 character at lv 1. Kazuma is the best person in the party really only because he's balanced, and he knows how to plan. That and he doesn't have some weird fetish that drags him down besides the fact his a jerk.
Oh, the reason he keeps stealing panties is because of his stupidly high luck stat. Which kind of plays into he's strengths later on but he's not trying to still panties off of people. Just when it does happen, well, you know...........
To be fair, Aqua's party tricks have buffs, its just that she doesn't know they buff people

This worlds economy makes no sense. When they hunted the giant toads, it was said that their meat is in demand, yet you get only 5k per toad. Who the fuck in that world would pay twice as much for a small cabbage, that would be one meal for a family, compared to a giant toad that would last that family for weeks if not more.
That's like paying 50 bucks for truckload of meat and 100 for 5-6 bananas.

To be fair Kazuma is useless too until one of the girls becomes bait. And he didn't do much during the cabbage fight. He just appears better because hes the most "sane". On their own they're all kind of useless but together they... well they somewhat manage to kill a few toads and some cabbages as you can see. xD

Her god blow is actualy very strong, but was a bad type matchup. Aqua is also pretty broken power wise, but she so stupid she failes to use her ability to the fullest.
Or maybe frogs have 100% resistance against water attacks, and Aqua, being a water goddess, her attacks are water-based?

@TheWingedSerpent page time doesn't matter. Iris is especially well fleshed out for the role she plays. I don't give any female an advantage because they're in the main cast. That's like saying MiraJane can't be best girl in FT because she's not Lucy, Erza, or Wendy (none of those 4 hold a candle to Juvia, though).
To the same point, page time would require useless Sakura to be best girl, and that's laughable. Rem doesn't get near the page time of Emilia, but there are comment wars over them.

I was spoiled myself when I first watched it, and I'm not generally too worried about those types of spoilers for my enjoyment. However others are. And the little hints given out in the LNs and starting so far in the anime would have made it much more fun to speculate.
