The story (and i'll choose my words carefully) goes that after the Conquest of Istanbul, the Hagia Sophia was desolate and nobody was using it, i.e. the christians were not utilising it as a ritual centre, so the Sultan decided to make use of such a big building and purchased it from his personal wealth from whoever owned it on paper at that time, and showed evidence for it, this was added to his personal estate. The christian patriachs signature was not required as he was not a trustee to the building nor did he have any share of ownership....not sure how true this story is or the other version of events. I want to find the truth. Sitting on the fence on this one. But in my heart I feel that if it remained a museum, it would keep things neutral and diplomatic at the very least and minimise hostilities so fully utilising it as a Masjid today may not have been a good move as it stimulates the kuffar agenda. If the building was originally made as a Masjid, then my opinion would be different.

Please look through historical resources brother. There are signed documents that the sultan purchased the Hagia Sophia from the Christians when Constantinople was conquered. It was then converted into a mosque until around 1917 when the secularist Attaturk converted it into a museum illegally. That’s why it was converted back. Please research this with an open mind and do not take my word for it. And Allah knows best.

The irony is we built a mosque opposite the Hagia Sophia which is as large and enough to serve the local community.

A few humble suggestion, (since you have taken the step to move to Pakistan) majority of people there would not be able to understand English, so I suggest the following. 1. Do lectures in both Urdu and English, allowing much greater realm of influence. 2. Have your prior lectures either subtitled or dubbed in Urdu, for benefiting those who want to learn more. 3. As for your books, see if possible to get them translated in Urdu, 4. Also consider audio books, in your own voice would be awesome, but if not feasible, than any eloquent reader. Surah Al Maidah verse 82 talks about the relative tendency of non-Muslim groups in relation to Muslims, where Judaism is in the same group as polytheists, where they tend to be the most hostile towards the Muslims, while Christians are said to have closer affection towards the Muslims. This means that followers of Judaism and polytheism are relatively more hostile than those of Christians, while followers of Christianity are relatively more friendly than the two groups. This is a fact and we can see it from the course of history. But we also knew, there are still some of them who have the opposite attitude, followers of Judaism or polytheism who are friendly, as well as followers of Christians who are hostile to the Muslims. This is also can be found in historical fact. So, If for now the tendency is "as if" towards a situation, it does not mean that it will remain as it now. Hopefully we all can take a lesson from the history of Umar RA's conversion to Islam. At that time, who would have thought that the event when he came to his sister's family would lead him to Islam? The story (and i'll choose my words carefully) goes that after the Conquest of Istanbul, the Hagia Sophia was desolate and nobody was using it, i.e. the christians were not utilising it as a ritual centre, so the Sultan decided to make use of such a big building and purchased it from his personal wealth from whoever owned it on paper at that time, and showed evidence for it, this was added to his personal estate. The christian patriachs signature was not required as he was not a trustee to the building nor did he have any share of ownership....not sure how true this story is or the other version of events. I want to find the truth.

But in my heart I feel that if it remained a museum, it would keep things neutral and diplomatic at the very least and minimise hostilities so fully utilising it as a Masjid today may not have been a good move as it stimulates the kuffar agenda. Please look through historical resources brother. There are signed documents that the sultan purchased the Hagia Sophia from the Christians when Constantinople was conquered. It was then converted into a mosque until around 1917 when the secularist Attaturk converted it into a museum illegally. That’s why it was converted back. Please research this with an open mind and do not take my word for it. And Allah knows best.

Religious freedom is a well-known Islamic principle. {There is no compulsion in religion; the right direction is clearly distinguished from the wrong} (Quran 22:56) . So it’s clear that each person should be allowed to find their own path in life. People of other religions are free to practice their own faith, as Islam does not force any one to embrace it.
Not only does Islam demand their freedom to practice religion, but also that they be treated justly and kindly as any other fellow human. {Allah forbids you not, with regard to those who fight you not for (your) Faith nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly with them: for Allah love those who are just} (Quran 60:8) .
Regarding the protection of churches, Allah says, {Did not Allah check one set of people by means of another, there would surely have been pulled down monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques, in which the name of Allah is commemorated in abundant measure. Allah will certainly aid those who aid his (cause)} (Quran 22:40) .

The irony is we built a mosque opposite the Hagia Sophia which is as large and enough to serve the local community.

A few humble suggestion, (since you have taken the step to move to Pakistan) majority of people there would not be able to understand English, so I suggest the following.
1. Do lectures in both Urdu and English, allowing much greater realm of influence.
2. Have your prior lectures either subtitled or dubbed in Urdu, for benefiting those who want to learn more.
3. As for your books, see if possible to get them translated in Urdu,
4. Also consider audio books, in your own voice would be awesome, but if not feasible, than any eloquent reader. This would allow more ease to access.
Your video on Palestine was on point and the only response which resonated with me.

After the fall of the Ottoman Empire, Turkey has been busy doing a lot of house cleaning and trying to get back up. Simple example, only as recently as 2008 can sisters wear the hijab freely in government and schools. We know that we still have a lot of problems but rest assured that we are working through them.

Turkey is not the saviour of the ummah. In the past I agree they had a great Islamic empire. Dear Sheikh, do you still plan on opening an islamic institute in Pakistan as you once mentioned. If so, how far have you reached in fulfilling your plan? I think it is an excellent idea to propogate your type of scholarship based on baseerah and spiritual insight. I believe Pakistan requires this now more so than ever before, in order to locate the future authentic scholars of Islam that will dazzle the world with their scholarship, which they will acquire from none other than yourself.

What’s going on in East Turkestan is no joke because if you actually do research there are a lot of Uyghur Muslims who have been in the camps who have talked about what the Chinese Communist Party has done to them. Our sisters are raped there on a daily basis and their children are separated from them. Also I don’t think you have done any research on this issue because if you notice “Xinjiang” in 2014/2015 time, you would see that it was very Turkic like and there was a lot of public there. If you look now, the majority looks like it has been transformed into a Chinese like area and there is little to no public. Also everyone there has shaved faces and our brothers and sisters couldn’t even fast during Ramadan but they had to eat pork and drink alcohol. Also, if you do more research, Uyghur sisters are forced to marry Han Chinese men who are occupying East Turkestan. China has attempted to brain wash the whole world by saying that they’re re-educating Uyghurs by putting them in these concentration camps. If you look closely at the masjid in the region, you will notice a Chinese flag there and if you look at the same masjid a while ago it said “La Ilaha Ila Allah at the top of it but the Chinese have taken it down. They continuously kill off the imams who are there, but now what they’ve done is forced the imams to say that China is an equal country and that there is no oppression to protect themselves and their families. Brother, please and for Allah’s sake do not be ignorant to this situation. This has been going on since 2017 but now because China is facing pressure they are claiming to be free and cover up everything so Muslims like you think that Western Media are lying to everybody. Listen to me, I know how terrible Western Media is, and I know how terrible the situation is in Falesteen and I’ve done what I can to spread awareness and I constantly pray for them. Please do some proper research on what is actually happening to the Uyghurs in China, and please listen to the Muslims who have actually had to escape the oppression and who know the reality it is way worse than you can imagine. Assalaamu'alaykum Sheykh, without diminishing my respect for your views (13:00), allow me to share my opinion.
Surah Al Maidah verse 82 talks about the relative tendency of non-Muslim groups in relation to Muslims, where Judaism is in the same group as polytheists, where they tend to be the most hostile towards the Muslims, while Christians are said to have closer affection towards the Muslims.
This means that followers of Judaism and polytheism are relatively more hostile than those of Christians, while followers of Christianity are relatively more friendly than the two groups. This is a fact and we can see it from the course of history.
But we also knew, there are still some of them who have the opposite attitude, followers of Judaism or polytheism who are friendly, as well as followers of Christians who are hostile to the Muslims. This is also can be found in historical fact.
So, If for now the tendency is "as if" towards a situation, it does not mean that it will remain as it now. Hopefully we all can take a lesson from the history of Umar RA's conversion to Islam. At that time, who would have thought that the event when he came to his sister's family would lead him to Islam?
Let us hope for the best for our brothers and sisters, the believers in order to find a way that is blessed by Allah SWT. Aamiin ...
