None of the #1 tandems selected by the networks since then have been worthy replacements. Jim Nantz + Tony Romo, Al Michaels + Chris Collingsworth have been pretty good. Joe Buck + Troy Aikman are O.K. But nobody has been able to replace Madden and Summerall.
@@mycolortv1 YOU must be kidding. Danny White was a great passer. He took the Cowboys to 3 straight NFC Championship games, including a remarkable comeback against the Falcons in 1980 to get there. In the 1981 title game, he staked Dallas to a 27-21 lead before Montana's amazing pass to Dwight Clark. After that, he made several passes to get them across midfield before he was smashed in the pocket and fumbled. He then led them to 3 more playoff runs. Dallas had a winning record in his first 7 seasons as their starter. White also filled in for Staubach in the 1978 playoff game against the Falcons, after Roger was knocked out with a concussion. Danny led a great comeback win to catapult Dallas to the NFC Championship game. You apparently have never watched White very much. His only issue was having to follow in Staubach's footsteps. The Cowboys went 59-24 in his first 83 starts, a 71% winning %. That's one of the best records of any QB in history. He also had a QBR in those 7 seasons of 84.1 which was very good for that era. He threw 139 TDs in 82 games from 1980-1986, with only 106 INTs. In none of those seasons did he ever throw more INTs than TDs. He was a very good QB, a good runner, AND a terrific punter. Only Montana and Ken Anderson had better stats in that span. Fouts had more yards, but he threw way more INTs, and his QBR only slightly better than Danny's. Fouts also did not lead his team to the playoffs after 1982. The Chargers were 48-40 over the same time period with Dan at the helm, and he threw 23 more TDs and 20 more INTs than White in 5 more games and 800 more passes. His QBR was 86.0. He took them to the AFC Title game only once. Fouts threw more than 20 INTs in a season FIVE times, Danny, only twice. Fouts was a year older than White, so they are direct contemporaries. You really should educate yourself before making snarky comments. Peace
Gene Stallings was a Cowboys assistant from 1972-85. Two months after this game, he was in St. Louis. Last Cardinals game on Thanksgiving until 2008 when they lost the night game in Philadelphia.
Jets fan here but I remember Lomax and man he could throw it and led many great comebacks or almost comebacks like Week 2 1987 when he brought the Cardinal back from 28-0 at halftime to 28-24 final and if Earl Ferrell didn’t drop a Easy TD pass late in the game they would have won it 31-28
Wow, great !! I never saw this game when it was played as I missed it when it was aired back home. The Cards played good for a team that was 4-8 in the first half but fell apart in the second half. Thanks for posting. This came two weeks after the Cowboys suffered their worst defeat at home ever by the Bears 44-0.
STL had two miserable men for owners. Bill Bidwill and Stan Kroenke. Both more concerned about $ than the city that supported losing football for decades.
Sfter 1985 they would not have another winning season as well as make the playoffs until 1991 which such a drought was unheard of in post-1965 Dallas until the early 2000s.
Cardinals had the talent at this time, but they just never took that next step. Hard to do when you had the Giants, Redskins, and Cowboys in the NFC East feasting. Even when the Cowboys fell off a little after the early to mid 80's, the Eagles soared right back.
1985 was supposed to the year for the Cardinals. It ended up being an absolute nightmare. Lomax from the first game on never looked like the QB that lit it up the year before. In fact if you look at the whole season the first half of this game was probably the best he played the entire season.
football cardinals started this season out 3-1 coming off missing the playoffs on a fg the year before and were everyones sleeper pick to have a great year... as the baseball cardinals were ahead of the royals in the world series about the same time....... really thought it was gonna be one of the best years in stlouis sports history and bam, ouch,,, went bad fast for both teams lol........ delicious find, tyvm again Rich
It all turned sour when the Cards lost 23-0 on MNF in Washington. The most infamous moment came in week 14 when players wore solid red socks vs. the Saints. The NFL fined the Cardinals for that.
Looking back I think that 3-1 start was really smoke and mirrors. They absolutely stole the opening game at Cleveland which they should have lost. They did look good when they beat the Bengals. After reading the box score on Monday after the week 3 loss at the Giants I knew something was wrong. The win against Green Bay was helped because Lynn Dickey didn't start. I guarantee you if he started the Cards probably would have lost to the Packers. Then they were totally exposed and got there asses whipped at Washington on MNF. The Cardinals had beaten the Skins in St. Louis the year before and almost beat them again in week 16 at RFK. You could even argue that the Cards outplayed them in the second game. I think the Skins came out that Monday pissed off with a head of steam because the Cardinals had at times made them look bad the year before. There were many factors that led to the awful season but from week 1 it was obvious that the magic they had the year before was gone.
hey bud,do you have 1979 patriots vs broncos?its a snow game, and I was wondering if you could post on google plus, 1978 browns vs jets or 1978 afc champ steelers 34-5 oilers?
If there was only a way to set the tv to automatically go mute whenever madden started his overly loud ranting, any game he is "color commenting" would be much more pleasant to watch and hear.
The best tv duo ever!
Madden + Summerall + Thanksgiving = FOOTBALL.
Football American Style! You got that right!! How I miss them both.

Cards had some good looking uniforms remember watching this at my grandmother's i was 8yrs old 80s were the best ever
a lot better than the ones now.
Agreed. 79 thru 89 was probably the best 10 year stretch for NFL football.
The 1985 Thanksgiving classic. R.I.P. John Madden, Pat Summerall.
Neil Lomax and Danny White- two guys that could really wing it

Please post more 80’s Chiefs and Cowboys games.. Love Tom Landry! Class act and a man of character

Ahhhh, the real NFL!
Bill “Psycho”Bates was the reason the Pro Bowl had to make a special teams position. One of my favorite Cowboys of all time!
Too bad Neil Lomax had to retire early in the late 80's due to a hip injury because he was certainly having a hall of fame type of career.
daniel nowak it was. Most casual fans today don’t know who he was and how good he was. This Cowboys fan remembers.

No pro football team needs to be in St. Louis.
Oklahoma , Nebraska and Alabama need pro teams.

Almost every player in white spats just RAW! MISS THIS KIND OF FOOTBALL
Great game! Loved the pass from Hill to Cosbie on the reverse!
Back in the day I remember watching this game visiting my late grandparents on Thanksgiving in Columbus Georgia on their CBS affiliate WRBL channel 3
I was watching in San Antonio TX but I feel like I was in Minneapolis on vacation with my parents
Tom Landry's last winning season, last Division title. The next 3 seasons for the Cowboys would be unLandry like
Sfter 1985 they would not have another winning season as well as make the playoffs until 1991 which such a drought was unheard of in post-1965 Dallas until the early 2000s.

Doug Cosbie was and still is way under-rated.
He was novacek before novacek
Thanks Richard! More of those sorry mid to late 80's Cowboys please.
Cowboys actually won the Division this year(1985) Landry's last.

cowboys played on that astroturf field for 15 seasons.

Yep. I'm a lifelong Cardinal fan from Columbia, LA. Before the Saints, Cardinals were on every Sunday.
That's right Mr. Kreager!🙂
Al Michaels frank gillford and dan dirdorfe were best mnf ever
Oh hell yeah.
Can you upload the 1st Cowboys-Cardinals game? I believe that was the only MNF game between these two in St. Louis.
I would have to get this game on the next shipment.
The Cardinals and Cowboys also played on MNF in '86 at Busch. Cowboys won that one 31-7.
John Madden R.I.P
1:55:43 Best plan B free agent pickup ever, at least by the Cowboys.
