Most modern, CVT Subarus use a similar system for their AWD (multiplate clutch). Symmetric or not, the transfer/PTO is what overheats on these systems. That being said, the manuals, WRX CVT, and STi all use more advanced systems that should be able to handle more abuse. EDIT: I just realized, it shouldn't be the case. Subaru, on the multiplate clutch systems, are based on FWD drivetrains (a very good one at that). This means the power is routed mostly to the front wheels, with the multiplate clutch sending a smaller amount of power to the rear. The front wheels in this sort of dirt are doing a lion's share of the work. In a RWD-based AWD car, the front wheels (the important ones in low traction conditions) are demanding a lot of power through the multiplate clutch. Add in electronic traction control systems (which cannot be fully disabled in a lot of these cars), and that clutch will overheat in no time. As for the people who want to claim all Subarus are AWD... only in the US, and only for the past two decades. Around the world, Subaru is more than happy to sell FWD Imprezzas.
Pretty sure it would easy to get them out of limp mode. Disconnect the battery for a bit, reconnect, and you're off again. That looked like a software thing not a hardware issue.
It will, but newer Land Cruisers have really bad interior electrics. In addition to that, a lot of the switchgear feels like it can break easily - a big pill to swallow for an ~$80k SUV in the US. That being said, if I had no concern for size or weight (and nowadays, cost), I'd got for a Land Cruiser in a heartbeat. Big V8, serious off road gear, and the decade-old chassis has a good reputation of quality.
The hummer h1 is cool but is really unreliable, also it eats fuel like there is no tomorrow, the classic land cruiser is good but has dodgy electrics, hilux is decent, anything modern is crap(except a certain few in the states) , The landrover defender is probably the best of the lot, the German army g-wagen is good, the suzuki sj410 is decent, the jeep wrangler is good, and the classic range rover is good. The best modern vehicle that is fully capable of going off road is a mercedes unimog.
Let's be honest most of the electronics in cars these days are pretty shitty... not all of them! Why add a button when you can do it manually? Pulling down the boot, pulling a handbrake lever is it that hard?! That is why i rather prefer something older without these 'intelligence' system!
Surprising considering the Land Rover should be the least reliable. Then again, it’s the only one out of the three that could actually do some light off-roading.
Jack Visser i agree, this season has been 100% better than the last and has nailed the tone and feel of the old topgear. It makes me really happy that they are now truly back.
I'm genuinely curious what made them go into limp mode. I accept if you did this to the car all the time, any car, it'd be hard on it. But, for a few second? That's not even long enough to make anything overheat? I guess these AWD systems are nothing like the old ones, with actual gears, and shafts etc. There must be so many clutches and sensors on them to allow on tarmac driving, they literally cant stand a few second of slippage. Kind of pointless when you think what AWD is for. I'd love to know what technically went wrong with them.
Maybe the dirt made it slip enough to think the AWD system was broken? It might be designed to expect a few wheels to slip, but not everything at once.

Not sure what you mean considering Porsche ranks 3rd in reliability world wide. Literally only 2 Toyota and Lexus rank higher, all other Japanese companies are *WAAAAY BELOW*
@@boltmix7294 reliability rankings are for the most part trash. They use surveys and respondents mostly use their own interpretation of repair and failure. A Porsche owner may not think that the car limping to the dealer for a computer reset is considered a repair so it may not get counted. Besides in a lot of cases these are newish cars, mostly automatic since these "studies" are primarily done in the US. A Porsche still ends up costing around a minimum of €1000 per year in repairs after it's warranty, it's maybe a smidge less than a bmw, but not much. You could get a whole used Toyota/mazda/subaru with just 2-3 years of porsche maintenance. It's deceptive to call any company more reliable based on a lot of subjective data.

This of course killed whatever momentum you had, which is the opposite of helpful when you're trying to climb a hill in the snow. We discovered this feature in our driveway, thankfully, not in the middle of nowhere with no cell reception, so nobody froze to death because of a car that Couldn't Even. I've been told you can turn off the traction control, but I couldn't find a button or even a fuse to pull. I ended up dragging the miserable lump up to the house with my truck.
To be fair, her 2013 CRV is programmed a little better. Maybe they're learning. I still don't trust traction control!
I wonder what actually happened to porsche and alfa
QurttoRco they both be on the lift at the work shop
Just restart the vehicle a few times and everything will be fine.
Trust James not to know where the fence is XD
Hammond would make a great Tony Stark. I mean, that's not even ironic facial hair. Right?
A challenge that James May won? Now I've seen everything!
how much is amazon prime?
They say they don’t like SUV’s but really the only negative they put across was the electric tailgate, which most cars have these days and also the electric handbrake which most cars have, id much prefer a stelvio of Alfa hatch back.
For the next season, when you are doing a race like this or any other kind, you really should bring back the Croatian finish line. You should have an argument, which ends up none of you trusting eachother, and not the producers either, fearing they are biased. In comes the trustworthy finishline we all love and adore :D Do it!
Modern German reliability
