In the early 1900s the German Colonial Masters took away many Bukawa people away to work as laborers on coconut plantations in Madang Province, especially Bugati and Yabob. This song tells a story of that event - it describes how men were taken away and their village were left empty. Today, there are mix-blood Bukawa-Madang people living in the villages of Yabob, Bugati, Siar, and other villages , not knowing where Bukawa is in Morobe Province. I once met someone in Bulolo Town when I worked there, and he told me He was from Madang, but his great grandfather was from Bukawa in Morobe Province, which was no surprise because I knew the history of Bukawa people being taken by Germans to Madang to work on coconut plantations.
