The earlier episodic episodes were peak Rick and Morty. The alien simulation, purge, inception episodes to name a few. The characters had specific mannerisms, Inter personal dynamics, specific humor to the situation. The characters weren’t insufferable, the jokes weren’t over done meta analysis, the mannerisms genuinely made me laugh. RIP peak Rick and Morty, you will be missed.
You are extremely articulate and I agree that the main issue is the building of serial narrative in the beginning only for there to be dissonance between the serial and episodic nature.
The first two seasons were peak. Then the series went downhill fast. The pickle rick episode was massively over rated. Then the sperm episode was full '"jump the shark" and it has been irrelevent to pop culture since.
Xiaolin Showdown (the original, not chronicles) did the whole episodic show with overarching elements right. It kept character development done in each episode without making the characters feel like completely different people in the next episode. There was a problem with episodes being shown somewhat randomly, fir example if you see part 2 before 1 of a 2-part episode, but that isn't a problem with writing.
My personal opinion is that, with them using "The President" and "Dr. Wong" more, is that they were simply deciding to take advantage of the well known actors voicing the roles more (Keith David and Susan Sarandon 😅)
The show is actually better now it just has less of a mainstream following and that’s not a bad thing cause fuck it was embarrassing to like this show prepandemic and I like it a lot better with the new voice actors cause their performances are so much more layered than Justin Roiland’s rambling tbh.

I would say that the show relied so much upon weird surrealism that it had to burn out pretty early. How many of you could even come up with one of the episodes from S1? Same goes with shows like Ugly Americans and Adventure time. The former did the right thing, and stopped after two seasons. But some shows just keep squeezing.
I gave up on the show after the abysmally horrible season 7 opener which is legit one of the most offensively bad episodes of any show I’ve watched. That being said, I think I still have a more “rose-colored glasses” perspective on seasons 4-6 than you, there are still some decent and good episodes in that bunch (even in episodes you considered “bad”). The snake time travel episode, the meta train episode, the “Asimov Cascade” episode, the last 2 or 3 episodes of season 5, the season opener of season 6, along with some of the good episodes you mentioned (although I still can’t get fully on board with the fortune cookie episode, that felt a little too dumb). In future rewatches, there will be a few episodes I will skip or want to skip, but there are more “non-skip” episodes than skippers for me.

I feel like the worst part was the way they tied up Rick prime in that they essentially made evil morty a mary sue and made all of Rick's trauma fucking pointless. So Rick's been tracking this guy for DECADES... he has murdered THOUSANDS of other Rick's in an attempt to get to Rick prime who, btw, only started having prominence in 2 episodes one season ago. And then evil morty just comes in and INSTANTLY... no struggle what-so-ever, gives rick the info to locate Rick prime, or at least the clone that takes him directly to rick prime's strong hold that then leads to Rick prime. If it was that easy, that simple that it was resolved in a 1 minute scene then why the fuck and how the fuck does rick have trauma that lasted YEARS with no resolution. The show tells one thing and then shows another. Then they just go and evil morty basically has to defeat Rick prime for rick... what the fuck. What happened to the build up and the pay off? Then the tonal whiplash... they will constantly go from talking about Rick's depression to then making a joke about it completely ripping any deep moment away as if they're scared to have a serious moment. Like he tells his entire backstory and has to call it his crybaby backstory absolutely ruining all investment on how serious it was ( you know which was also further desecrated when they went on to find the source of his trauma in 1 minute). There are also countless other problems such as erasing character development or thinking that just because they call out a troupe that they're using it makes it less bad but it still stands. It just isn't good anymore and it's sad to see. Like josh said, I used to be happy to see this show but now it's just sad, like watching a dying relative who is no longer themselves be forced to suffer on hooked up to a life support machine. Clearly the show was running out of ideas 😭😭
Just started watching the show since month ago and all the episodes and seasons are 🔥 maybe cuz I don't dig it too deep and let my own eyes explore th episodes 😼
They have their own way of doing things because they choose to use side characters for some episodes just for Kicks . You are too hyper critical of this show . This show has no expectations at all, so saying that they're on a downfall is actually incorrect. Yes, I agree. Some of the stuff they put out is pretty s*****, but. The majority of the episodes are pretty funny. I think that's all they are really going for , not a chronological storyline. The chronological storyline, it's a jest side piece😂
Im so tired of these lazy ass parodies of something famous, „look people its Jurassic Park, do you see it? So cool huh??“ in the later show these episodes are basically 100% filler
What happens when a studio swaps out all the old writers and directors, not only that but for obvious DEI hires, the women writers are just pouring in from season 3 and onwards and they did tend to write the worst episodes. Fun fact, the head writer and director of She-Hulk, Jessica Gao, wrote Pickle Rick. It's very obvious when you look at each episodes writers. Really sad.
Pickle Rick was a great episode though. However it’s interesting that a lot of the writers here went on to work for Marvel at the same time Marvel completely tanked in quality as well.

Dude you are so spot on with the side character point. I felt that exact same way while Watching The Office and they started to talk more about Erin and her life. I just knew the show was dead because they spent her whole beginnings making her as an identical Pam and then when nobody wants it, they give her the same problems Pam has. Clearly the show was running out of ideas 😭😭
Just started watching the show since month ago and all the episodes and seasons are 🔥 maybe cuz I don't dig it too deep and let my own eyes explore th episodes 😼
Bro yapped for 30 mins about how Rick And Morty are doing things for no reason. How many times did Rick say that none of this matters?
Can’t believe there’s actually still people like you in 2024💀
@@JR-ol9pc I can't believe your parents made someone like you.
That one out of context line doesn't excuse poor writing.
I Love the latest season its the best one o far :D
They have their own way of doing things because they choose to use side characters for some episodes just for Kicks . You are too hyper critical of this show . This show has no expectations at all, so saying that they're on a downfall is actually incorrect. Yes, I agree. Some of the stuff they put out is pretty s*****, but. The majority of the episodes are pretty funny. I think that's all they are really going for , not a chronological storyline. The chronological storyline, it's a jest side piece😂
Bro S.1 E.11 is great
i love a good heatmap
Good job putting this together. Downfall probably mostly due to new writing staff.
last season plus 6 was really good
The show has always been good, youre just critiquing it as a live action serial show.
I got here by watching your Riven review. This video is really excellent, it's fantastic. Should have huge views.
I stopped watching once Justin left because just knew it was all down hill from then on.
It got better when Justin left
Imo rick and Morty is doing fine. Although these videos about the downfall of Rick and Morty are getting old.
Yet here you are.
Mate, love the video! Keep grinding, you’re going places!
Im so tired of these lazy ass parodies of something famous, „look people its Jurassic Park, do you see it? So cool huh??“ in the later show these episodes are basically 100% filler
Well put
What happens when a studio swaps out all the old writers and directors, not only that but for obvious DEI hires, the women writers are just pouring in from season 3 and onwards and they did tend to write the worst episodes. Fun fact, the head writer and director of She-Hulk, Jessica Gao, wrote Pickle Rick. It's very obvious when you look at each episodes writers. Really sad.
Pickle Rick was a great episode though. However it’s interesting that a lot of the writers here went on to work for Marvel at the same time Marvel completely tanked in quality as well.
this is cope, and the opinions are pretty stupid. But, I guess everyone has their right to an opinion.
Thank you! You're absolutely right!
Very good points, the show is aimless and all over the place, and you pointed out exactly why.
The comments are coping hard, I didn't even know people still cared about this show enough to defend it.
"No bro, you don't understand bro! Rick and Morty is good again bro! Reddit says so bro! Trust me bro! You're just not smart enough to undersrand the high IQ comedy, bro!"
great vid
Sorry but ur rating for each season is really bad man
never rate again, this is your last warning
Downfall? Season 6 is its best since season 2.
I struggled to tell if he's being sincere or just trolling.
It's honestly cringe listening to this. Like listening to guy trying to explain why he's smarter than most while shoving crayons up their nose.
It has to be trolling. No one could miss the point so many times.
I'll never understand why people continue to watch this show knowing full well that Justin Roiland is a groomer..
He is fired
@@enesutku34 who cares?.. the show was still co-created by a groomer and it's been going down the tubes since Season 3.
@@AbrasiousProductions he doesnt get any money even if you watch or not
@@enesutku34 he forever tainted the show, I was already on the border of leaving it anyways but in January 2023, I officially abandoned the show and haven't watched anything past Season 6, the show's dead to me, I can't even enjoy the older seasons anymore because of Justin.
And ? It's normal tbh 😂 cry more
We are living in the smiling friends era, Rick and morty and there lame incest jokes are done
Yeah smiling friends is good now tbh
