When you read the score it is a work of art. Incredible chords, incredibly well composed. The piece is a work of art like a painting by Rembrandt. Very well thought out and beautifully constructed. A masterpiece by Alfred Reed. Greetings from a fan from Holland.
The strangest part about playing flute is that when you are playing in your seat the flute sounds so loud and outplayes a lot of other instruments. But, when you listen back to a recording you can hardly hear your flute section
Same with tenor sax. For the longest time, I tried to find this piece. I remember playing it in high school over 20 years ago but couldn’t remember the title or composer. Now that I found it, I was a little disappointed it didn’t sound like I heard it in the band. My part is way overshadowed by the brass.
@@markusbrownicus01 ya brass overshadows a lot in recordings and songs, especially marches. Its kinda upsetting how no recording will ever sound like what it sounds like to be sitting in a band playing your instrument.
@DECLAN DOUGAN Well, yes, kind of, but no, more complicated than that, listen to a lead trumpet and to a bassoon and I want you to tell me that the bassoon sounds or projects more
I’ve been told by a veteran Texas band director that this work used as the sight reading test piece for UIL Concert/Sightreading Contest, back when it was first published. Of course, it was soon added to the Prescribed Music List.
Got to play this for Alfred Reed himself at my middle school, back in 1995.
Woah!
2003 for me. But not for Alfred Reed! Wow, what an honor!
I'm literally playing this in an honor band in high school :,) how did you do this in middle school
I was part of the School Band of America & traveled all over Europe playing this as Alfred Reed himself conducted. It was so amazing!

There almost needs to be separate mixes available to replicate each section’s experience
楽譜が出ると50数年前青春時代思い出す懐かしい🎉最高の思い出有り難う🎉🎉🎉感謝感激です🎉🎉🎉
playing this for my high school symphnic band as a freshman , im playing euphonium this piece is beautiful.
I'm playing this song rn in band as a freshman flute player, AND THOSE UPS AND DOWNS ARE KICKING MY ASS!
I played this back in 2003 and it still gives me high school vibes. I was 1st trumpet but lately I like playing the French Horn a lot!
Beautiful composition. Very varied in key signatures, sharps, flats and time divisions. Unique! Greetings from the Netherlands.
0:51 the B section goes crazyyy
Thank you for this

This is such a cool song.
Orchestral music is the best!
This has been played by about every high school band in the country for the last 40 years..at least
Out of mere curiosity, how did you get your hands on this score?
The piece comes with a full score and a condensed score.
やっぱり小節頭の速さを維持できなくて、どんどん遅れてくるなぁ~どれだけリズムと速さを正確にとらえるのが難しい曲なんだとおもう。
isn't this the opening to the Olympics when everyone is walking out
Ok then, didn’t expect such a dark answer. Can you send me a link to the ACTUAL Olympic opening song. I just want to compare
Roxie Ann What is a dark answer?
