the way killing machines procs go, you can hit 3-5 huge crits in a row and it feels really good, especially w/ howling blast in aoe packs that die too fast for diseases/d&d to get their full durations
About the death run syncing while playing sub blood, your opening should be something like: IT > PS > Obl > BS > BS > BT > UA > (ghoul if BL and fallen crusader procced) > FS > FS > Obl > Obl > ... after this you probably have the choice to spend your death runes on another Obliterate OR on a pestilience and BS. I never seem to be able to use them for another Obli because at that time you only have about 5 more seconds remaining on your diseases and casting it Obli will cause me to miss the pestilience refresh. Because of that I reckon you never actually use your death runes for additional Obli, unless you have BT off cd, but rather only for popping UA without breaking rune synching. Am I seeing this right?
I think thats right! They key is to NOT use UA and BT at the same time outside of the opener. In the example below the runes in parens are the state of your runes after using the listed ability. lower case = cooldown. Start with BBffuu and ~7s on diseases # cycle 1, use BS/Pest together to convert Blood Runes to Death Runes BS (dBffuu) Pest (ddffuu) FS/HB til Frost/Unholy Runes are up (ddFFUU) Oblit (ddfFuU) Oblit (ddffuu) FS/HB til Blood Runes up (DDffuu) # cycle 2, use UA/Pest together (reverts one Death Rune back to Blood Rune) UA (bDffuu) Pest (bdffuu) FS/HB til Frost/Unholy Runes are up (bdFFUU) Oblit (bdfFuU) Oblit (bdffuu) FS/HB til Blood Runes up (BDffuu) # cycle 3, same as cycle #1 to convert Blood Runes to Death Runes again) BS (dBffuu) Pest (ddffuu) FS/HB til Frost/Unholy Runes are up (ddFFUU) Oblit (ddfFuU) Oblit (ddffuu) FS/HB til Blood Runes up (DDffuu) # cycle 4, use Oblit/BT/Pest to get an extra Oblit Oblit (bbffuu) BT (Dbffuu) Pest (dbffuu) FS/HB til Frost/Unholy Runes are up (dbFFUU) Oblit (dbfFuU) Oblit (dbffuu) FS/HB til Blood Runes up (DBffuu) So by splitting up UA and BT you can utilize your double death runes for an extra obliterate, and then use BT for a Pest to keep diseases up.
What’s the minimum expertise do we need because it seems expertise is more important than strength gemming then? I only have 12 expertise rating which is 61 expertise.
Also you are missing your ghoul. Should use with all your cds and lust because the ghoul snapshots those stats even when they fall off of you. Also your army of the dead benefits only from unholy presence so should use that before going back blood presence obviously pre pulling
@@joshkenck5427 Short answer: sim it. There is no "minimum" expertise. Expertise has a value depending on the rest of your gear. You neither need a minimum nor reach expertise cap in order to do a lot of dmg. I would never gem expertise as a Frost DK. Strength is always best as it scales with buffs and talents. Expertise does not.
Good vid. Short and simple. Something about your stat prio: Expertise is not nearly as important as it is for other melees. When our attacks miss we still get to keep our runes which is a HUGE advantage over the energy loss of a Rogue or the rage loss of a Warrior. We only lose a GCD. So expertise is important, but it's not at the top. You should've mentioned (as you absolutely correctly did later in the video) that you should always sim your char for the stats that are most important AT EACH MOMENT. Stat values change with every single new item you obtain. Hit loses value after the 5% (+3% from talent) style cap but is still not bad afterwards because of the white dmg and Killing Machine procs. Crit is very much desirable because of Guile of Gorefiend and in many cases better then expertise.
Love the video. When using the simulator, I'm noticing that the hit rating values seem extremely inflated. is this a known bug or something? is there a workaround?
You NEVER leave your runes off cd and with blood sub spec your blood rune (or death rune) will come off cooldown when your diseases still have about 6-7 seconds to tick. If you wait for them to fall off, you waste a lot of rune usage. I personally always use them as soon as they come off cooldown (if all the other four runes (2x unholy, 2x frost) are on cooldown). I always use my Blood Tap for Unbreakable Armor. I guess in theory you could use one of your death runes for Unbreakable Armor instead of Blood Strike and use Blood Tap for Pestilence after you used both death runes for another Obliterate as Metagoblin mentioned. I don't know about the exact numbers as this complicates the rotation and/or delays Unbreakable Armor usage which I don't like. I always use UA on cd using it together with Blood Tap.
Short answer: You should use Pestilence and directly afterwards Blood Strike so that both your consumed blood runes will come back as death runes which you can then use for another Obliterate. As Obliterate is your hardest hitting spell, you want that death runes and you want them together. Longer answer: If you play with blood sub spec, you won't be able to utilize these death runes on Obliterate as your diseases will nearly almost (except for the opener, more on that later) fall off before you can refresh them with another Pestilence. That means instead of being able to use your (bad) blood runes for refreshing diseases you will have to use 1 frost and 1 unholy rune to refresh them->loss of DPS. Long story short: If you play with blood sub spec you actually don't have to sync your blood runes as you will still use them separately to refresh your diseases and for one Blood Strike every time they come off cooldown. If you play with unholy sub spec (and have the Epidemic talent which makes your diseases tick longer) you absolutely want to use your blood runes together. So NEVER do something like this: Obliterate, Pestilence, Obliterate, Frost Strike, Blood Strike. You ALWAYS prioritize using your runes over runic power. If you don't use your blood runes together (so Pestilence followed by Blood Strike or the other way around) one of your blood runes (which will be death runes then) will be off cooldown for several seconds before you can use them together for another Obliterate. That's what "rune syncing" means. Little explanation on your opener as it won't change no matter which sub spec you are playing: 1) Icy Touch, Plague Strike, Blood Tap, Unbreakable Armor, Obliterate, Pestilence. Now all your runes are on cooldown, your damage buff from Unbreakable Armor is up and both your blood runes are death runes. Which brings us to 2) Empower Rune Weapon (activating all your runes), Obliterate, Obliterate, Obliterate, Frost Strike, Frost Strike, Frost Strike. As you used Pestilence before Empower Rune Weapon, your diseases will still be up when your blood runes come off cooldown. This is the most damage possible as a frost DK during the start of a fight.
@@robertgleich7277 I'd agree with everything except with the opener you have little more freedom and time to weave a froststrike just before the 3rd Ob which allows you to not waste the runic power build up and you will still get the max amount of Obs off.
