- Headed down to Cronulla in Sydney for Stefania to show us how to harvest sea urchin (uni). Shows other edible sea food, how to use a special uni tool to open the uni and the correct ratio of uni to bread.
Would recommend going with someone who knows what they’re doing as the waves can get quite choppy.
Disclaimer - first time using GoPro so the footage is a little uneven but I promise it will improve.

Nice catch sea urchins, a big and healthy one. Thanks for sharing this video
God bless
My pleasure! It was a grand day out for sure
@6:53 reminds of a time we went diving here on Oahu. One of the guys collected a few wana (urchins) and forgot them in the car after we dropped him off. We gave them to one of the neighbors who liked uni. He was so excited, but When he cracked them open they were all black mush & guts. He was so disappointed. We felt bad for giving him junk urchins, even though we didn’t know they were bad.
Trying to learn how to properly pick wana, trying to collect some very soon. Thanks for the video, I’m going to get me a sea urchin splitter.
Great video! Which part of Cronulla is that?
Oooo waaawww, love the video, ... how is the best way to eat uni? Bare? Toast? Like on rice ala sushi? Or somehow prepared ... cooked? Thank you!
