I've followed Beardyman for close to 15 years, I've never understood why he isn't more well known. I've never seen anyone better or more innovative. BEARDYMAN THE GOAT
I actually actively search for beardyman reactions because he is so underrated and my favorite artist of all time. But yes, almost his entire set was freestyle minus the very beginning. Basically in your video at 5:05 its where he ends his prepared routine on the 505 and from then on its full improvisation. I can only guess what was in that e-mail you got but it sounded very accurate from your descriptions to it, he isn't looping on the ipads itself however those are just controllers. There is a laptop behind him that runs Ableton Live and that is what the ipads are connected to using Lemur which is the interface he uses on the pads. He used to have an entirely custom software for it, but that one was to unstable so it crashed to often during his sets. If you want to see more of his insane improvisation skills using that older gear check out (and if its not to long react to) one of his One Album Per Hour sets. That is a show he did where the audience can write down song suggestions and he just improvises them on the spot. He even did a song for me once (and also did an impromptu song based on my youtube nickname) so i can confirm its 100% authentic on the spot improvisation both in lyrical writing, music and more. The other details of how he manages to do it you got right, he indeed has a complicated chain where he can put effects on his input, loop it, use the existing loops as new input (Which is why he could do things like that live chopping you heard) and apply effects on the output as well. He doesn't have any synths and instead uses plugins to make his voice sound like them. That may sound like just a gimick, but its actually how he is able to control the synth sounds with his voice while he does other things like the piano or finer control. Which is why he can control multiple tracks at once that other loopers typically do not do. If the One Album Per Hour shows are to long for a reaction i'd love to see you react to his BBC Comedy set. Its more simplistic since its much older and for a different audience, but it really shows his skills in rapidly coming up with songs. Oh and if you want to see something else incredible there is a video called Beardyman Live at Highline Ballroom, NYC (Camera recording with bad audio unfortunately) where he is making a really good track around the 7:30 mark but his setup breaks mid song. He begins to sing on the spot about what is going wrong, while trying to fix his gear and continuing the track with the part of the setup that is still functional. Eventually it goes wrong so badly he has to reboot the entire gear, but instead of going backstage he throws a solo beatbox routine as long as it is needed to reboot it. Highly recommended watch almost nobody knows.
He uses a customized huge Appleton live production setup, which is interfaced through the laptop on his far right. All the I-Pads, looper stations, keypads are just his interface of the production station. He takes his voice, produces it, back patches, envelopes, mashes, manipulates, etc. It is all his voice generating the original inputs (no pre-records or pre-samples) although through his own patching, he can sample any portion of himself. - - - - AKA - - - - THE BEARDYTRON!
We need more reactions on this man because he is a legit fkin legend in the scene and deserves more views. An absolute pioneer and sound wizard powerhouse. Big ups to beardyman from Australia. Much love
If you like this, you'll love his live shows where he takes suggestions from the audience for song title and 2 musical genres then just makes a song up on the spot.
Hi, new sub here.. Love your awesome reactions and I too have only recently discovered the insanely talented Beardyman!! I'm obsessed lol and am ecstatic that I'm going to see him in September, on his live Tour here in the UK.. Keep going with your great reactions.. You've gotta check out my other fave Looper Saro, vs Tioneb Loopstation battle, Saro is incredible! 🥰
@@ShadowWear yah he is, he never did beatbox battle he always or almost work solo lol he’s a legend . You wanna see how good he was in beatbox in 2008 ( sound far away in time but was still crazy in the time ) react to : Beardyman @ Camp Bestival - the Prequel - Solo Beatbox ( a 10 minutes video but believe me he’s really freaking crazy bro )
Imagine going to your mom and say "Mom, I wanna play music when I grow up!" "That's nice sweetie, what kind of music do you wanna play?" And you show her this guy... I mean... where do you even start??? XD
Beardyman once said that he thinks the audience gets bored very quickly which is why he keeps mixing it up and changing all the time. But I personally think he is just a soundophile who can't be without a new sound for a second. I bet he is like Data and listens to at least 7 tracks at the same time in order to truly appreciate the chaotic beauty. He often stops what ever music he makes as soon as it feels like it has arrived at a point where it can be understood by a layman. And I love him so much for being him. :D
If you wonder about the audience sometimes being seen as underselling him, they are simply over stimulated. Beardyman don't give their brains moments to rest as often as they are used to, so they constantly try to find the definition to the music they are hearing and where to go nuts and how to do it. If you don't know, you will never be able to keep up with him xD
dont think that will happen until GBB them self post it again and all the drama is put to bed. but if everything goes well i will for sure react to it :)
