Not sure if this was deliberate, but as similar as the melodies are (same key AND same chords, but not the same chord progression), the lyrics to both songs also work as two halves of one conversation: "Fall for Me" is someone asking for help (I'm pretty sure it's from the perspective of a suicidal person asking to be talked out of it) while "The Way That You Were" is someone offering help.
They're both in G Major supposedly, I don't know why it doesn't sound quite right. Possibly a bunch of Maj. 7ths happening between TWTYW and FFM. EDIT: were these time edited to fit together or not? FFM is is at 86bpm and TWTYW is at 126bpm.
It doesn't work because one is in G Major and the other is in Em, these scales are both relative to eachother in terms of notes but there are some intervals that sound weird that you wouldn't normally put together, hence it sounding weird despite technicaly being in key.
I didn’t think I’d ugly cry tonight. But here we are.

Very deliberate. Although a bit hastily put together.

It does sound a little dissonant, but I think it still works.
I can't dispute facts, but I can say I like odd shit and it doesn't bother me.
