    Can we all take a moment to consider, and appreciate, that John will have had to make significant changes after his cardiac event, in relation to nutrition, TRT, and avoiding maximal intensities that require the use of the valsalva effect to accomplish, yet despite all of that, with his knowledge and dedication, he has clearly regained a lot of the mass he lost in the immediate aftermath of his condition. Incredibly impressive.

      Higher rep sets, 12-15 reps, with a pause on the full contracted and really really squeeze the target muscle. After each set, do a 10 second isometric flex of the target muscle. Do this every set, every workout, and you will feel the mind muscle connection like crazy. Dropsets are good too. And plenty of warm up at the start of the session.

    I thought that in rows, you're stronger at the beginning of the row when your arm is outstretched and weaker as your hand pulls in closer to your body. So I'm wondering how using a chain on a landmine row (@4:20) would work: Wouldn't the weight get heavier as you get weaker (the opposite of accommodating resistance)? Is that the intention?

      But generally, as far as I've heard women do well with higher volume and lower rest time. Guys bury themselves on one sets and women are more go go go set to set

    • @philipmeisterl
      @philipmeisterl 3 роки тому +2

      @@NielsO-t3v as far as i know its about size and muscle mass basically so a heavy tall man is not gonna habe as much recoverability as a smaller women and women are normally smaller but theoretically if a man and a women were to have the same size and muscle mass they would recover the same (on a population level its obvioulsy different for every single person)

    • @ManiacFitness
      @ManiacFitness 3 роки тому +2

      @@NielsO-t3v I'm 5'10" 190 and under 10% bodyfat and I use alot of the giant set and superset training principles. I will pick 4or 5 diff excercises and go back to back with minimal rest between. I'm talking like 15 seconds. I'll do 4 rounds and add weight each round taking the last 2 rounds to compete failure. I've grown more muscle in a year and a half then guys at my gym that have been lifting for many years and look like they do more walking around and talking then working out. Then they wanna ask me how I build muscle with lighter weight. I have amazing mind muscle connection and use the stretch and squeeze to get a crazy contraction. To me it's common sense but most people are worried about saying they lift a certain number when trying to build muscle. Powerlifting numbers may matter but you arent gonna build much muscle doing a set of 3 and taking 8 minutes between sets.

    • @NielsO-t3v
      @NielsO-t3v 3 роки тому +7

      @@ManiacFitness both ways work man, Brad Schoenfeld concluded a while we can build muscle effectively in the 6-30 rep range, AS LONG as we take it to, or close to, failure.
      Before lockdown I got a lot of succes with a more Jordan Peters style of training, which basically meant I did low volume and high intensity.
      I did only 2 working sets for exercises, first I did a heavy top set of 6-10 reps to failure. Then i'd rest like 3 minutes, lower the weight by 20% and do a backoff set of 10-20 reps. And on to the next exercise. My warmups were using as minimal reps as possible, just feeling the weight and getting ready for the tol set.
      Of course I used higher reps for things like side raises and some other isolations at the end.
      But I could definitely see a Milos Sarcev style giant set workout doing great, as long as you get (close) to failure!
      I'm just saying IN GENERAL women tend to recover faster, they dont burn themselves up with one really hard set, but can be right back there for the next set.

    • @thelionofgod
      @thelionofgod 3 роки тому +1

      @@NielsO-t3v Direct muscular fatigue and cardiovascular capacity are two separate things. Higher weight is more taxing from a cardiovascular perspective. Whilst strength and therefore muscular endurance increase significantly with size, cardiovascular capacity won't. A smaller, weaker person may be able to do a 5-rep max without needing a long break after, but that's less likely for a larger, stronger person. Male bodybuilders are going to be bigger and stronger than female bodybuilders, pushing heavier loads, so are likely to need a bit more rest.
      On top of that, Ivana is 8 weeks out from a show, pretty lean, and getting leaner. It's possible that she went super heavy with lifts in her off-season, and is now hitting the higher rep ranges with shorter rest periods in the build-up to her show, as it's less taxing to a depleted body and better for adding detail to the physique.
