Just over 20 years ago, I was flying a Caravan under an Army contract, dropping Army staticliners at various locations around the state of Colorado. One day while returning to my home base, I looked down and saw a freshly paved 300 foot RC aircraft runway out in the middle of nowhere. Since I was already below 1000agl. I patterned in and did a touch and go right about in the middle of the RC runway. When I looked back at it, it was obvious by the tire marks what had taken place, but I wondered if the RC folks ever figured it out.
Dont be spooked by having to land in a farm field, especially in the summertime when the ground is firm. Thats where aviation had its roots, in and outa farm fields.
I fly a caravan and I've got a giant lake at the end of one end and a hwy and the ocean at the other and houses either side. So if I lose my engine I'm going for a swim either way.
Here in Chile they use roads all the time. Caravan or jets too., I landed on a beach once in a DC-3 to pick up salmon. Tide was way out and we got out of there before the tide came in and it was easy peasy. Jim In Chile

@@ralphwatt8752 We tried to get them to bury the powerlines but no go. Then did try to actually raise them up last year and we pitched a fit and they left them as they were.

Lol! That's awesome!
Good safety training Kerry
Gotta have a plan of what to do when the crap hits the fan.
You always need options. Good video. Thanks for sharing.
It's best to think about your options before you need them.
If you can't, you need more training. It should be a virtual slam dunk

True, but the field just off the south end of out runway has a big ditch in it and that would suck to hit.

If a pt-6 quits on you mid flight you wont be using it the next day :)
Depends on why it quit. But probably not. BTW our Caravan has a 900 hp Garret engine.

The real beauty of a pt-6 is you can tell the epa that the prop is wind powered just like a windmill so its very green :)
That flat pitch prop gives it away!@@KerryDMcCauley
@@sethdavis1644 Total photoshop.
Talk to the County to see if the signage can be lowered.
I bet you could but you're not typical
All it takes is planning and luck.
Flaps will hang down a bit.
True, but they will be inboard on the wing and aren't any lower than the strut.
Its a pitty the aforementioned obstacles cant be removed.?
FAA could make that happen
Kind of tough to get rid a train tracks and powerlines.

SPEED UP GREASY SIDE DOWN!
I dont even need to watch the video, of course you can without a doubt.....actually if anyone can I know you can.
I've done it before in smaller planes, but wouldn't want to do it in the Caravan. It's best to be prepared though.
Find a different airport?
We've been flying jumpers out of this airport for 50 years, still helps to plan for a bad day.
