Anyone who hasn't watched this series yet, MUST! Of all shows, even those on TV included, this is the best. I love this series. Gritty, real, true, heart felt, inspiring. I cry, I yell, I go Awwww. This is real reality TV.
I think It worked out just fine, if you would've done this in a nice vehicle you would've definitely gotten robbed. But since you looked just as poor as everyone else you weren't really a target.
@@KombiLife exactly. Yeah, a newer campervan(like a ford transit) would be more comfortable and reliable, but it would stick out like a sore thumb in those countries and you wouldnt be able to sleep at night. Its better to blend in, drive what locals drive, but with the modifications that have been mentioned in other videos that aould have made things easier. But hindsight is 2020
Incorporating the mentality of “Everyday is an adventure”-into normal life- is key to keeping yourself out of the headspace of “ I should be doing cool things”. Normal life is just as exciting, it’s just a bit harder to find the quirks!
past memory I sort of did this. You'll get a lot of people who will say, "but what about college??" The truth is travelling will wisen you up much faster than studying. I came back with a sense of maturity that made me a bit condescending toward college kids because most of them have little perspective. Travelling will also boost your confidence and make you more aware of who you are and what you care about. 10/10 strongly recommended
Same for me. Im 17 and live in Sweden and I probably will wait untill the summer of 2019 to make my journey through Europe. Or maybe I will do it next summer once ive gotten my license and is of school for three months :)
I literally watched the video today. UA-cam algorithm feelsgoodman. I've seen a good deal of travel videos but I have to say your 1000 days travel video is probably the best one I have seen yet. Keep up the good work mate.
You are truely an inspiration when i turn 18 (im 16 now) i am going to save up as much money as i can and travel the pan american highway in some type of vehicle happy travels from eoghan in ireland
Hey, Ben! Thanks for the inspiration which has helped me with my planning and research for future travels. I'll be a full-time van dweller starting next year (Sportsmobile classic 4X4. So far delivery is in March, 2018). Destinations will be all over the lower 48, Alaska, Canada, Baja, Central America and I'll be putting my rig in a Europe bound shipping container (I'm a dual citizen with Italy and possess a Euro passport). Let me know if you want to caravan in the future!
I’ve pretty much watched all 4 seasons back to back. Truly inspiring, I’m also starting my own adventure in a Mercedes Vario in September. Travelling full time and document the adventures.
Hey man, just ran across your videos here on youtube - must have been this algorithm ;) - and I must say this is really amazing what you have been doing. Two big thumbs up. Save travels.
Dam, i discovered tour channel 4 datos ago and now i have watched all seasons and cant wait for more. You are truly a great source of inspiration. Keep It Up!!!
this is exacly what I want to do. Just travel (in my case with a lot of sports along the way) while making content about it. I have been saving up for the past half year and planning to leave in about 1,5 years. For now I will start making content and training the sports I want to do along the way. You're youtube channel along with adrenaline addiction have really inspired me to start working to make this dream come true.
I'm 19 years old and one of my biggest dreams is to go traveling like this. But I also have a 10month old daughter so guess this will have to stay a dream.
Subscribed! Awesome videos, Ben! I just started season 2 and I'm absolutely loving it! It's really inspiring to see just how much you were able to accomplish on such a budget. Keep up the great work! I can only imagine how many people you've already inspired to get out there and experience the world first hand.
Thank you for your tips ! I've recently discovered your channel and I've been binge watching your videos. I wish to one day have the courage to do what you've done :)
Looked like fun really. I travelled for 6yrs around Australia in a 1983 Holden Commodore wagon. And loved it. Even the shit times looked fun now. Would love to travel again once my kids are older. Would love to drive a cross Europe in my 1987 Ford falcon (have videos on youtube of my rebuild atm). That would be fun as... Good job mate. Hope you had a ball mate. 🇦🇺
I left home in the UK at 15..ive now travelled for 36yrs.. First job in France washing boats I left all the hatches open.. Doh, but I was asked back the next day..bonus..now I can go anywhere and fix any yacht or anything else..work ski resorts ..etc etc..a life of travel..30yrs in vehicles having the best time..Go Do See..love what you do?..
Are you going to consider doing a Kombi World Tour? Like travelling from Alaska through Russia to the top of Scotland via China/ India or something along those lines?
There's a big difference in life experience and maturity between 18 and 28. I would travel in the summer for 2 or 3 months, then go to school the rest of the year. Get a college education for as cheap as possible, and some summer travel experience, before you head out on a big world tour for a few years. Being at least 25 years old with a college degree, 5 years of life and work experience and maturity, will help a lot dealing with people and problems you encounter during your travels.
Very true, you don't always show the lows when filming travel videos - I certainly don't! But that's mainly so our parents don't worry too much haha! I think it is important to share the lows though, and think I will have to address them on my own channel soon!
Going to read your book. I don’t know that you would have had the same experiences or met the same people if you’d had a different vehicle. I think the Kombi did take on a life of it’s own and who doesn’t love the look/shape of the VW bus?
I would love to do this the only issues are: I don't have anywhere I could work on a minibus like that and living in the uk the laws around modding a car would probably mean I couldn't actually drive it anywhere, at least legally
You should go to big French key in Roaton Mexico, I went there and it was so beautiful, relaxing and fun. I took so many pictures and it was just amazing.
Hey Ben, this is a wonderful series that I discovered few days back and binged watched all the seasons. You should really try to get a Netflix or National Geographic Documentary series. Your style is awesome and different \m/ I live in Seattle. You should have stayed much longer here but I know due to the VISA issue you had to leave for Canada. Pacific Northwest is heaven. Come back again! PS: Good to know that you and Sharne are still friends on FB.
You must have a brilliant strategy for saving/using money, so here is a like for you >>> I think what you spent was nothing compared to what most people spend in their travels, so amazing inspirational video, and You are a different person now, by learning so many things in that adventure, such as sadness, happiness, sorrow, anger, frustrations, and despair, and despite all of that, you went on and on, and achieved what so many people wouldn't even dream about. Live YOUR life just the way YOU want it, not what the other people want.
Hey I loved the vid , but can you link the Drum cadence you used for that little compilation of the Volkswagen. It sounded awesome and I would like to learn it.
Love the videos man real inspiring that people need to see that there is more to life then the 9-5 and that the world traveled is a greater life then caged in a small city
I want to travel around the world and I will do it.. but my Only concern is what will happen next, I want to have kids , grandchildren to share my experiences about a life I wont forget. I live in Chile, where your trip began. I will study automotive mechanic for my lifestyle on the road. I'm still planning and deciding if I will start here or in the USA. I also bought your E-book and up until now I'm loving it. Thank you and have a nice day
Hey, You can drive the Pan American in just 12 months, that is a worthwhile investment of your time. Driving north is quite exciting for people in South America as there is always something new on the horizon. But you can get a cheaper camper truck and MUCH more variety of camping equipment in the US.
Yeah that's the thing, I want to start in the US because of that reason and also because at this time it is safer to travel than Latin America. I also want to be able to go offroad with a 4x4 but I also want to have a bit of space. what do you suggest? having a 4x4 but compromise space and go anywhere or get a campervan
I’m 15 at the moment and you have inspired me to go traveling when I graduate, but I want to know on a scale of 1-10 how dangerous was this entire journey, did you almost die at gun point or anything like that?
But also, it is much easier to work on a VW Bus than a newer, more electronic vehicle. Back when that Van was built, one of the points of it was to be able to work on it yourself. A newer thing wouldn't have been as easily fixed or understood.
Hey mate, thank you for being an inspiration. if you ever want a travel companion who will take your video and editing quality to the next level, let me know! :)
Hey Ben< fellow ben here. I have vw t25 and im working towards travelling for a few years in my van. Slighlty boring question but how did you keep your van MoT'd and insured etc etc. Was it done by direct debits from back home?? Cheers. Love the Channel!!

You're probably the most interesting person on UA-cam.
I doubt that ha ha - there are a lot of us here :)
You're up there with Delos in my opinion. Just wish you had more videos/more frequent videos. But not at the cost of quality.
Weird flex but ok
you heard of casey neinstat though?
you are an effective communicator I think, really good at getting your point across in an easy to understand way.
I'm only 16 and I wanna go van life right now but imma wait till I graduate and hit the road

I am planning on doing this next year but on my motorcycle. The good thing about the van is that you don't need to spend money on accommodation.
"The world is your oyster mate". No truer words said. Amazing story, keep the dream rolling brother 🌊💯.
