    You can also get "monitored" door magnets which will confirm the door has been properly shut again when the game is reset. You can also make very robust switches with a magnet attached to the spring loaded plunger that actives either a reed switch or even better a hall effect sensor.

      You're absolutely correct, and I considered mentioning Hall/Reed sensors to detect movement of the plunger (which is a technique I've used also), but wasn't sure if that might lead to confusion with the other Reed switches mentioned.

    May I ask a question, is it possible to make a seven segment disay that will upload to a computet monitor using Node Red?
    Do Node Red have a template for that, Or I'll have to build or design it my self.
    I have lots of questions.

    Great video, thank you very much! I have a question about the 12 volt power supply. On the wiring diagram you can see that there are 2 power supplies (12 volt) but in the part about the components I only see one. Is it still necessary to buy a second one? I have no knowledge of electrical networks, sorry.

    I love this! But, wouldn't it be easier to use RFID? Like say you have 2 sticks of dynamite and a plunger in which you have an rfid chip in each. Then after placing the dynamite on the object (whether it be a door or something), you put the plunger down in the hole and then with RFID do it?

    You could make it where when the door is blown open, it cuts off the power to the mag lock until you manually reset it for the next game.

    How do you avoid the audio looping? The DFplayer loops if you hold ADKey1 which your relay would do if the player holds the plunger for too long.

      Lots of options, but the most trivial is simply to append several minutes of silence onto the end of the explosion sound effect.

    An important feature of mag locks (as opposed to padlocks) which I don't think you mentioned is the fact that they fail safe. I've been in a room that the exit door was locked physically and I wasn't happy that in an emergency, the door wouldn't open on its own. That situation has now been changed.

      It's quite a skill making what's often called "Museum grade" mechanics/electronics, never underestimate the destructive power of the average punter and particularly small children.

    Does the lack of an Arduino, in this scenario, affect the way this type of puzzle can be controlled by some sort of ‘games master’ software?

      Yes, absolutely. And, while some people favour the "keep it simple" approach and don't introduce microprocessors where they're not strictly necessary (which I can appreciate), the counter-argument is that, if I'd done this using an Arduino, it would have presented far more opportunities for, e.g. monitoring/resetting/triggering remotely from escape room software, adding additional game logic, or more features (let's say you also want to trigger some lighting or a smoke effect via DMX when the explosion goes off)

    Do you know a webshop that sells cheap maglocks? (and it's not necessary that they're strong) I'd like to make an escape room at home and use a mag lock but all I find are too expensive for 1 or 2 times use.
    I love your videos!

      you can get them on Amazon for around $20 for weaker ones.

    Am I missing something?
    It would seem that, with normally open reed switches, the maglock would be DEenergised when the 'exolosive charges' aren't in place over the reeds, which kind of defeats the object.
    Maybe I'm misunderstanding...

      Watch the video again... The RELAY is set for normally closed (maglock powered on).

      The Reed switches are normally open, which means the *relay* is not energised. That means that maglock, which is connected to the "normally closed" terminal, *is* energised.
