I used to work at a Petsmart 😞 Unfortunately they just throw you into the job. They’re supposed to give everybody a giant book to study and a couple hours to memorize everything but not everyone gets that. From my coworkers that did get to see the book, it’s incredibly outdated. The company also has very outdated pamphlets on animal care in their store for customers. I had to study outside work to really learn how to properly care for all the animals we sold. It takes everyone at least a month to learn all the job responsibilities + do outside research on all the different animals and their care. There’s some people that put in the research and others just don’t really care. It’s really really sad that the company doesn’t care and therefore doesn’t update their information or what they sell. I’m the biggest proponent now of not trusting the sales associates and actually doing research on the animal before you buy it.

He was spending so much time and energy getting around in the five gallon that he’d kind of just sit around most of the time because he was worn out, but now he explores and swims around a lot more. Hah Everyone Thinks My Betta Tanks Are Micro Cause It’s Short And Long But It’s Actually 7 Gallons…… Someone Actually Said “That Tank Is Tinyyyy You Sould Let Me Put It In A Vase That’s All They Need”
This is awesome and informative but I have one suggestion. I think the rocks take up an unnecessary amount of space that significantly diminishes the aquarium size and becomes wasted space. Instead, you could use a cave-like decor (curved driftwood, pipes, caves, etc.) so it's still a usable/accessible space for the betta to go in. Also bettas like having a dark space they can hide away from the light.
This was the first video I watched before getting my first fish. Now, 2 years later, I have 2 fully planted aquascapes with C02 injection. Thanks Chris!
I had never watched any of his other videos and I was like NO, NO, NO but the actual tank at the end is really pretty looking and actually suitable for a fish. Love it!!!
@@dencethomas6929 I believe it's a dophin tank www.kwzone.com I dont know if they sell it online but I got 4 gal one from a fish market. Really cool, it was pretty cheap too and there were bigger tanks
I found a pack of bright blue aquarium gravel (unopened) at a second hand shop. My plants have been enjoying at bit on top of each drainage hole to aid with soil retention. :)
I have fish, and I encouraged my sister to get a betta. She got a betta but she didn't have much money to get an entire tank for her betta, so she got something small. She got one of those tanks that are "made" for bettas although they're also too small for bettas. After I started learning more about my fish, I thought it'd be cool to learn about her fish too. So then I found out that her betta needed more than rocks and pebbles and a much bigger tank, so I tell her "I found out that your betta needs a bigger tank from maybe 5 gallons to 15 gallons, and she needs more natural things in it to make it feel more like a habitat for her." And my sis it like "No, she's fine." IT MAKES ME SO ANGRY. NO IT IS NOT FINE. I understand she has like no money anymore, but when she gets a job (which is soon) she should consider getting a bigger tank and more natural things for her fish.
Fish For Thought lol I wanna do an aqua scale like this but my sister is complaining saying she prefers how the plastic plants look but they’re straight up bright yellow and orange
Nice video, just to clarify: If you're going to use mediums from a different tank to cycle, use filter mediums or other surfaces like substrate or hardscape. There is very little bacteria in the water column and it won't make much of a difference.
Hey Fish For Thought, is it ok I don't need a heater? I lived in the Philippines it's climate is Ballance, or should I get a heater for the perfect temp
@@dudeamazed1236 If you already have hot and humid days then probably not. If you have it in a fully air conditioned room or you live in cooler regions then you should.
I've never seen anyone use Saran Wrap to protect the substrate when filling a tank, just a small plate. I can see that the wrap works much better, so thanks! I'll definitely do this when I put together my next tank.
So FYI, the nitrifying bacteria doesn’t reside in the tank water, it mostly resides in the filter media, tank substrate and the surfaces of your tank decor.
My First aquascape Was actually also a big seiryu, fingerwood with anubias nana and javamoss, some other plants (cryptocoryne and flame moss) and a coconut thing. I put some corydoras habrosus and a betta koi plakat in it and it looks great. I still have the Tank working without any changes. I have a small outside hangon filter because it was too small for a spongefilter
6:04, 7 days is a completely arbitrary length of time. It can take up to 8 weeks to cycle. Want to do it properly? Step 1 - Watch a UA-cam video on the nitrogen cycle so you know what you're doing. Step 2 - Buy a Master testing kit so you can test for Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate. Step 3 - put some fish food in your tank every few days and test the water every few days. When your Ammonia is '0', your Nitrites are '0' and you have some Nitrates. Your tank is cycled. Step 4 - Do a 50% water change and add your fish. Bonus - Get some Seachem Prime in case you screw up and/or to treat any new water before it goes in your tank.
You are the only reason that I went from a terrible and colourful one balloon tank for my Betta to a nice River themed 5 gallon with a few tetra aswell
We used to have a single goldfish in a regular tank, it wasn't extremely big, but it was a lot of space for a goldfish at less I think so (I'm unable to give you the exact measurements since I never checked, but the tank was made by my stepdad) now this fish was one off the many fish that was sold outside our school gates, about a 100 of them all in the same bucket, one for $100 dollars, less than $2 USD. They were already in a chemical in which made them die quickly, and thus make kids buy more. This fish (Fishy) was bought by my niece as a gift to my mom, he was put in this rectangular tank, and was the longest living school goldfish we ever had, however the fish was suidical. He would constantly jump out his tank, and we'd have to keep putting him back in,we put another fish in there once (a tank cleaner/sucker fish) and fishy kill them. Now that I've gotten into fish content I'm awear now that the tank probably needed so terrain instead of an empty space, and that add a whole new species so early probably made him territorial. That being said, I'm also disgusted by the fact fishes who were bread to die, were sold frequently to children who had absolutely no fish equipment except for maybe a bowl, so kids would even loss their fish before they got home cause bullies would like holes on the bags, that how we all learnt, to hold the bags close and walk in big groups.non the less it was clearly a cash grab at the hands of fish abuse.
this was your first video i watched, the sarcasm is what hooked me. thats why i am commenting on a year old video. been watching that 'you suck at cooking" for awhile. honestly you should do a segment of "you suck at fish keeping" you have that perfect existensial sarcasm in your voice, you have the actual knowledge so i think it'd be ALMOST as good as fish tank review and your aquascaping vids. thanks for all the videos, keep up the great work !!!!
I smashed the like button the second you started centering that POS tank in the center of the table. I knew where it was headed and was really happy with the delivery! Thanks for educating the public man!
You can pretty much skip the "cycling" when you add filter material or wood from a well established tank. But I have to be honest: I took me about 2-3 years and many adjustments to understand what works and to get an absolutely stable and beautiful heavily planted nano shrimp tank, that was nearly maintenance free and simply thrived.
In the process of building my first planted 10 gallon tank. I’m scared that I’m gonna fuck it up but I’m so excited to see how it will turn out. I hate the way that fake plants look
I have a 5 gallon for a betta with heater, filter, plants, gravel, and hood so he can’t jump and my betta’s name is soul fire cuz he is a premium butterfly male
Awesome video! I personally have my betta in a smaller tank, 2-3 gallon, its a very good quality tank, but the reason why it's so small is because my betta hates big tanks. she grew up in one of those nasty small betta cups and was in it for way too long. the big tank i had for her (10 gall, normally id upgrade to a 20 after the quarantine period) but she got depressed and just really lethargic. once I moved her to the small, empty tank I used for some feeder shrimp at one point, she did way better! I'm now trying to slowly move her into a 5 gallon planted tank. Wish me luck guys😂
Ik this is a lot later but I would say don’t ever really put them in anything bigger than 10 gallons because it can cause a lot of stress and can be confusing for the fish. Also sometimes they won’t go to one side because they become territorial of the other
In my teens, I had two betta in a little divided plastic tank, then at one point I had a Betta in a tiny little bowl the size of a mason jar, and later even kept a moor goldfish in a 6 gallon! While all these fish lived for 2-3 years, I had no idea they were suffering! I’m so glad fishkeeping info is more readily available. In this hobby, I think a lot of us are making little kingdoms for our fish to pay homage to the ones we harmed while we were still learning.
I'm not gonna lie I was getting worried in the beginning with the small tank. Edit: I started out with a fish bowl and small tank. I now know after watching this I was an idiot and am now getting a larger tank and meeting the needs of my pet fish
How do you prevent algae from growing on the substrate or on the Java moss. I struggle keeping my tank algae free. I ended up buying a ton of Amano shrimp, cherry shrimp, otocinclus, Nerite snails, and Pygmy corydoras. They obviously helped A TON, but I’m nervous to put shrimp in my betta tank.
I usually have my lights on for 7-9 hours. If you have a problem with algae, try reducing the light a bit. I also scrub algae off of substrate with a toothbrush or something if it gets out of control. I also use a turkey baster thing(I can’t remember the proper name lol) and just suck up the algae. Aquarium Siphons work pretty well too! Bettas usually ignore Nerite snails(mine just looked at it like it was a weird rock lol) so you should be able to add one into a betta tank without problems. I sadly don’t have much advice for how to handle Java Moss since I haven’t kept it yet ;-; Idk if you have tried any of this yet, but I hope that this helps you prevent algae growth a bit :)

A mixture of How to Basic and Aquarium Co-Op with some FFF sarcasm. Perfection

"Real fish tanks have curves" constantly giving us deep quotes to live by ❤️
I never heard someone be so sarcastic. Love the video 🙂.
haha thanks :)
Thank you that's my favorite UA-camr
This is awesome and informative but I have one suggestion. I think the rocks take up an unnecessary amount of space that significantly diminishes the aquarium size and becomes wasted space. Instead, you could use a cave-like decor (curved driftwood, pipes, caves, etc.) so it's still a usable/accessible space for the betta to go in. Also bettas like having a dark space they can hide away from the light.
I think he’s using a 10 gal. So the betta has quite a lot of room (over 5 gallons)
@@lucaswar7989 he said hes using a 5 gal
@@eggpods9995 whoops my mistake
This was the first video I watched before getting my first fish. Now, 2 years later, I have 2 fully planted aquascapes with C02 injection. Thanks Chris!
When i first started the video i was like "this guy is an idiot" then at the end i realized this guy is a genius
I had never watched any of his other videos and I was like NO, NO, NO
but the actual tank at the end is really pretty looking and actually suitable for a fish. Love it!!!
That “tank” looks like one of those cereal containers.
I cant tell if this is a joke or not 🙈
@@homelessman7247 it's the bad one not the good one
What tank is that can you tell me
@@dencethomas6929 I believe it's a dophin tank www.kwzone.com I dont know if they sell it online but I got 4 gal one from a fish market. Really cool, it was pretty cheap too and there were bigger tanks
That is like the container that I keep cat foot in lmao.

I like how he bought a bag of pink gravel just to throw it away to make a point
I found a pack of bright blue aquarium gravel (unopened) at a second hand shop. My plants have been enjoying at bit on top of each drainage hole to aid with soil retention. :)
My screen broke when you told me to smash that like button with a hammer....
TruelySponge oh no
Ah don’t worry man. Just use some *FLEX SEALLL*
Lol I love how you pretended you were gonna make a trash tank at the start, the end product actually looked sick
thanks
Fish For Thought lol I wanna do an aqua scale like this but my sister is complaining saying she prefers how the plastic plants look but they’re straight up bright yellow and orange
@@zxrzFC how could you prefer that-
so anyway i’m about to destroy my whole tank and redesign it
Fish for thought: This is an awsome tank set up. I rate it 5/5

Nice video, just to clarify:
If you're going to use mediums from a different tank to cycle, use filter mediums or other surfaces like substrate or hardscape. There is very little bacteria in the water column and it won't make much of a difference.
Lots of you asking the name of the betta. My gf has named her Rosée, she also insists on keeping the second "e".
Where did you get the tank? I love the rimless look!
My local fish store had it in stock!
Add some Cory catfish
Hey Fish For Thought, is it ok I don't need a heater? I lived in the Philippines it's climate is Ballance, or should I get a heater for the perfect temp
@@dudeamazed1236 If you already have hot and humid days then probably not. If you have it in a fully air conditioned room or you live in cooler regions then you should.
I've never seen anyone use Saran Wrap to protect the substrate when filling a tank, just a small plate. I can see that the wrap works much better, so thanks! I'll definitely do this when I put together my next tank.
Did anyone else think of the "you suck at cooking" theme when they saw the thumbnail
exactly the theme I'm going for. Inspired by that channel!
The sarcasm is the highlight of the video
I’m not having the best day stuck in quarantine, but this video has definitely improved it! The sarcasm is pure gold 😂
awesome xD
I was like "wtf did I just get clickbaited?"
Then was like *x O x* after watching for more than 30 seconds
Chris: is about to put pink gravel in his fish tank
Me: *surprised Pikachu face*
Chris: puts pink gravel in trash
Me: *pleased sully face*
haha xD
So FYI, the nitrifying bacteria doesn’t reside in the tank water, it mostly resides in the filter media, tank substrate and the surfaces of your tank decor.
Chris: Holds pink gravel

Noooooooooooooo!
When chris he hit the tank out of the way its like the people in superstores slapping people out of the way ti get hand sanitiser and toliye paper

6:08 he said he used existing tank water for this tank.
@Ciaosy idk why he said that bc beneficial bacteria doesn’t live in the water column so adding water wouldn’t do anything

Where has this guy been all my life, i need his level of speech
haha xD thanks

you can tell by his voice he has a lot of patience
this was your first video i watched, the sarcasm is what hooked me. thats why i am commenting on a year old video.
been watching that 'you suck at cooking" for awhile. honestly you should do a segment of "you suck at fish keeping" you have that perfect existensial sarcasm in your voice, you have the actual knowledge so i think it'd be ALMOST as good as fish tank review and your aquascaping vids.
thanks for all the videos, keep up the great work !!!!
YESSSS I live for youtubers that can keep my attention 😭
I smashed the like button the second you started centering that POS tank in the center of the table. I knew where it was headed and was really happy with the delivery! Thanks for educating the public man!
I was so scared at the start of the video, and checking the comments like "WHY IS NOBODY TELLING HIM THIS IS WAY TOO SMALL WTF ???"
Love you
hahaha xD
You can pretty much skip the "cycling" when you add filter material or wood from a well established tank. But I have to be honest: I took me about 2-3 years and many adjustments to understand what works and to get an absolutely stable and beautiful heavily planted nano shrimp tank, that was nearly maintenance free and simply thrived.
In the process of building my first planted 10 gallon tank. I’m scared that I’m gonna fuck it up but I’m so excited to see how it will turn out. I hate the way that fake plants look
I have a four gallon fish tank for my betta, is that okay?
You can get away with it!
How Many guppys and mollys can fit in a 75 liter tank
With no bacteria from fish building up in there how would the nitrogen cycle even work? It would basically accomplish nothing
it's true, I missed this during my scripting. had a lot on my mind to say!
The dislikes are from those, who can't sell cheap shit to fishkeepers anymore😝

I have a 5 gallon for a betta with heater, filter, plants, gravel, and hood so he can’t jump and my betta’s name is soul fire cuz he is a premium butterfly male

You really got me with that tank and the gravel lol
haha xD
You: slaps the bad tank away.
Me:I like this guy already 😋👌
Also sometimes they won’t go to one side because they become territorial of the other
The narrative on this video is hilarious, nice work.
Literally looked for hours to find “this” video. Thank you so much. Can’t wait to set this up for my girlfriend’s birthday surprise!
How was it dude? :))

This has the same energy like "you suck at cooking" and I love it
In my teens, I had two betta in a little divided plastic tank, then at one point I had a Betta in a tiny little bowl the size of a mason jar, and later even kept a moor goldfish in a 6 gallon! While all these fish lived for 2-3 years, I had no idea they were suffering! I’m so glad fishkeeping info is more readily available. In this hobby, I think a lot of us are making little kingdoms for our fish to pay homage to the ones we harmed while we were still learning.
This guy literally deserves 100 billion subs, he’s hilarious

I'm not gonna lie I was getting worried in the beginning with the small tank.
Edit: I started out with a fish bowl and small tank. I now know after watching this I was an idiot and am now getting a larger tank and meeting the needs of my pet fish
Did you just call me a Chad around 6:00?

I sadly don’t have much advice for how to handle Java Moss since I haven’t kept it yet ;-;
Idk if you have tried any of this yet, but I hope that this helps you prevent algae growth a bit :)
