I knew a German girl many years ago at college. She was quite attractive and carried herself well. But she had a very vicious temper when she got angry and she couldn't control it. It was intimidating at times. She would be very blunt and would really have a wild, crazed look on her face when she became irate. When she wasn't angry though, she was one of the nicest and sweetest people ever. So...seeing Klaus speaking here reminded me of how she was.

He was great long before Herzog discovered him. I used to watch him as a kid in Germany playing the bad guy in all the German Edgar Wallace films. He was mesmerising and frightening.
Kinski was a huge star before Herzog, he would go on tours speaking poetry from Brecht, Villon, Maiakovsky, and other classics and recorded albums reading poetry, he was famous in theater and in Edgar Wallace movies among others. All this long before Herzog was somebody.

Nobody has ever beaten Kinski at playing Dracula IMHO. Gary Oldman was very good in the Bram Stoker flick, but in Nosferatu Kinski was just so unique. His eyes and the way he looked at the various characters in the movie spoke volumes to the evil of the character he was playing.

Some people have been saying that Nic Cage could be Herzog's new Kinski. Bad Lieutenant is proof that Cage has finally found a director that allows him to use his over the top, crazy acting in very fitting atmosphere. No other director has a brand of dark comedy quite like Herzog.
That jungle shoot would’ve driven many of us to our breaking point, let’s be honest. I honestly think Kinski did the production team a favor by being so unhinged and awful. It gave everybody someone even more miserable than them to concentrate on.
