There was a time when CS1 was perfect. It was sometime between launch and when one gets frustrated with out-dated mods or assets. Trouble is, that timing is different for every player. Same for CS2, When it gets perfect, we wont know it till that time has passed.
The way you leave empty spaces to fill in with detailling goes to one of my major issues with the way the build system works in the CS games in general. Most normal players feel compelled by the game to plaster every bit of space with something "useful", which is generally just buildings or roads. The idea that you could just leave a bit of empty area for decoration barely even comes up. Manor Lords is a neat current example to the opposite, where you actually are encouraged to make parcels bigger to leave room for additional expansions or to improve the effectiveness of certain add-ons like gardens. I would love if CS2 or a potential CS3 ever came around to address this fundamentally. To allow us to define plots that will not be fully developed, but leave empty space either for decoration or real game-play purposes. Like instead of just placing a commercial zoning that will be 100% filled with structures, you can draw a commercial lot that will automatically decide how much of the area to use for floor space, parking, decoration etc, but can also be fully customised.
As someone who is a PS5 player, I’ve seen some of the assets (bridges, car props, schools, hospitals, roads, etc) that are in the PDX shop so far and I’m starting to get siked for this thing to hit consoles
Can't see myself buying the game. Paradox's monetary model, a poor quality product at launch, and proprietary mod and asset deployment is enough to deter me. Once the trust is gone it's not easy to get it back.
I've been using the mods since Thunderstore era ( sounds like BC eh?) They: 1) change the mechanics of the game; 2) make the 'hidden gems' of the Developor Mode visible; 3) bring cu stom elements to the game.. all of which hooks me up more of more... But, good to see that you're back (or, coming ba ck)...
I'm still reading about too many issues. It's become apparent that the game was released at least a year early; not the few months we originally thought. I'm glad modders are hard at work. However, the game needs the simulations fixed/balanced, graphics still not great yet and it needs LOTS more assets. My hope is that the game becomes playable by Christmas.
I'm looking forward to the modding potential of CS2 being utilised... it's going to look insane. Hopefully Paradox upgrade the performance and simulation overtime too.
Not it's not good. Maybe the detail is finally a possible thing. But simulation is totally broken. I've started two new cities, and when you hit Level 6, demand goes full in each zone and doesn't go down whatever you do. You can only zone residential and you still have lots of demand despite you don't put any service or other zones. Sames happen with money. I started one of the cities with 6% taxes, and I making tons of money. Also no need to put any service (electricity, waste, cemetery...) and I am having 30k habitants. Also, traffic problems? Just a couple of traffic jams on the only entrance for a 30K city. There is no simulation, behind the game.
Yeah as a simulation game it honestly sucks right now. For making nice looking stuff it's getting better but performance is still spotty for me personally. And honestly playing it more the performance on my end is still almost deal breaking. It's better than it used to be but I kinda jumped the gun one this video because after another 10 or so hours of play I've crashed so much and got nothing done.

Hi Diana, Thank you for you videos. love watching them. also thank you for your honesty in all your vods. I still feel this game is NOT up to standards as they promised. it still has a lot of work. I also know the mods is now in beta but I am having SO much problems launching my game with the mods. I just lost all interest in playing this game all together. I think this game will only see me again in a year. I actually feel like asking for a refund but I think I will still give them a chance and some time to see if things does get better. I just feel paying that much money for something that wasn't promised.
i'm gonna wait to jump back in for when official asset mod support is enabled because i know that if i started a city now and got really into detailing, i'd probably lose it all when the official asset support in enabled. Plus, with that we'll also have the region packs and i'd really love to make a Japanese city, i'm a little burned out from the only two themes in the game, but i see the game's modding is in a great state. I wish they could also optimize the simulation better, my city still struggles and slows down to a crawl sometimes.
You've been the only real fair creator this entire time and I like this video because it gives me a tiny bit of hope the game iwll be "okay enough" soon. I think after the big supposed economy update, where they better finally fix the tax bug that has been around for ALMOST 7 MONTHS AT THIS POINT and makes the game pointless to even play, I'll give it another try. It's still a terrible mess by a bunch of incompetent devs but if it can get to a baseline of "make a pretty city and the pieces work and the cars drive around" I'll be satisfied ENOUGH with it... ...Maybe not to pay for the content, but to play it.
I haven't played the game proper yet because I've only been making a map in the editor but I can say seeing these mods (which I almost instantly went and downloaded) is definitely why I'm doing that at all.
I reopened the game for the first time about 2 to 3 weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised to see 25 Fps, instead of the one digit I was getting previously. However it is completely unmodded. Watching this video gives me hope, but will wait a few months before starting. I have since found other builder type games to cover my time, until that day....
I've generally had a good experience with the mods, but MoveIt will crash my game about a third of the time, so I have to get in the habit of saving before I use it.
It is nice to see your renewed engagement with CS2. I tried some of the mods like the line tool, but it seems to mess up my game, as in disabling the UI. But the extra terrain tools is great. I'll give that traffic mod a go.
The mods and traffic tools have made it a lot better since I can detail a little more now I am beginning to play more. I think the modders are going to start turning this game into something good. However I am still disappointed with colossal order for not making most of these features in vanilla and the launch….
Yes, finally someone talks about the rotation. It feels so strange. Feels like no control and also it goes the wrong way, But totally agree with you. Just the other day i was thinking: if i was to do a video about CS2 it would be titled "It's getting better!". I guess you read minds Diana. Nice video.
It's back on my wishlist since their latest apology, even though i won't be able to run it until i upgrade some parts. Also gives me time to see how well they follow through and whether they try another beach assets fiasco.
I've been having a cities skylines itch and was going to reinstall the first game this weekend, but after watching this I may give the second game a shot. But either way it's good to know some progress has been made. One question to anyone who may read this: are the zoning squares still screwing up so easily?
Is the queen back? ❤ I’m so excited to see the potential of this game. Due to work and a lot of traveling, I won’t be able to play CS2 from my desktop. So I have to play vicariously through all the amazing UA-cam creators.
Well, I tried subscribing to your list of mods and got as far as "road Markings" and CS2 crashed. Had to do a hard reboot to recover. Have tried picking up at that point twice and CS failed once and crashed my system once. Aurora 10 running Windows 10 with 64RAM. OK, it's not new, but it was sold as a gaming machine and I only have Steam and WPS Office on it. I was going to wait for CS2 assets to arrive but the enthusiasm you and others have had over Sully's and Triton's mods and packs made me give it a try. Back to waiting.
@@CitiesByDiana It is. These new mods have really created excitement among the video creators. It shows the game's potential. But if it is that fragile, it is unplayable. It has to be fun, not work.
I vouch for that Diana given I dropped three shorts yesterday on three different mods that have certainly given the game a new lease of life now I am not a City Painter (detailer) so those kinds of mods Ill usually leave alone although I was having fun placing down sand yesterday to make BEACHES for those beach front properties after all 🙂 But the next Mixed ROW Zone, and Mixed Farm Zone have certainly made Cities Skylines a lot more fun with some more low density mixed use, and some zoneable farms when you need small scale farms somewhere 🙂 Still lots to be done but these three particular mods have given a boost for Cape Solaria
mods loading is a pain...I've learned to use Skyve to launch the game-so the mods update in there before you launch CS2- What happens when you launch straight in is when some mods update, then you gotta quit and go back in
After a few months and with the right mods including the one that sorts out land value. I like this game more than cities one now. My cities just look so good without trying. this game will get its redemption like no mans sky did.
Honestly after buying it recently and playing for a few hours I can safely say at least it isn’t KSP 2 For once modding can fix a broken game Also edit how do you not feel stressed or guilty when you edit the roads without pause on LOL
I won't lie, I'm mixed on seeing the game improve personally. On one hand maybe it'll get to a state eventually that I'll hop back in and give it a shot. On the other, I'm disappointed that the main people benefitting are CO and Paradox, and not the modders who are actually making their game worth playing. I still think it's missing a lot of asset variety, which to be fair CS1 really got via mods and CCPs. Either Way, I'll stick to CS1 for now. Maybe when we hit the 1 year mark, I'll install CS2 again and see how much progress has been made.
It’s definitely improving. Will it ever been better than CS1? Time will tell and CS1 took time to be great. As much as I miss all the cool content from Steam workshop I find CS2 running better in performance not being bogged down with an overload of assets. Traffic mod is a game changer but my traffic management still needs improvement in my layouts.
I don't know why my medium and high density homes don't rise to a level, even though they are happy and have all the services and low taxes, is it a bug?
I'm still a little too pissed off to give CS:2 a try, but I am looking forward to gameplay from you. Maybe I'll ease into it eventually. And, yea for Traffic Manager!
It desperately needs asset mods and the promised country assets packs they trailed early this year. Then I will come look to back But the work the modders has been doing is amazing
The more I see pictures people post on the FB groups the graphics are making me want the game, then I see the surface stuff in this... only thing is I just can't justify paying $60 when I got cs1 and most dlc, and only 453 hrs into the game over a span of 7 or 8 years and only now over the past 2 years have been able to pay it much better, and have not yet built a big enough city to use a lot of my dlc stuff. Sure I did it on my old crappy laptop with less mods etc. But now I play on my 2020 high end PC, and use lots of mods and assets, and detail, I do still play according to traffic and demands but always play with everything unlocked and unlimited money. I'll stick to cs1 with my mods that make it graphically a bit better, but still I like the looks of cs2's water and sunlight etc
Mod support should be added as soon as possible as a small update without much delay and when they add it, it can even replace the updates they barely make
TM:PE is a game changer! The cars do even more strange things at interchanges than CS1!! The asset mdos seem great, and yeah even as someone who mainly concentrates on the sim aspect rather minute details... these are great just finish off some of the weird assets we have in game! Dissapointing they haven't got the loading issues with Paradox Mods sorted yet but good to see progress.... now once I get the game to load on my main windows account I might give it another try!
Paradox: "The mods will make the game work as it should." CS2: "Maybe mods will work today, or maybe they'll break everything. And good luck figuring out which of the 30 mods you need is the one causing issues" I love CS1 and I built a fancy new computer just to play CS2 (performance still sucks). And *when* it works, I enjoy playing it. But it frustrating that the game depends on mods to be good and the mods often break the game or crash it in the middle of playing it. One day I spent more time just trying to get the CS2 main screen to load than actually playing the game. Paradox really needs to get some of the basics into the actual game - like traffic lane paths, line tool, better bulldozer, zoning, etc. Mods should be extras, not requirements. If some random person can code something to add these features, surely paradox can do it better and faster.
I agree with ALL of this. It's been such a hassle trying to get this game to work with mods. Now that I've finally done it, it's (mostly) worth playing. But it should have been this day on DAY ONE without any mods needed. The mods I have aren't anything monumental or confusing to new players. They're all just quality of life stuff and some extra detailing options and visual mods. The fact it took 9 months to get the game into a state where it even comes close to CS1 with mods is sad. We were supposed to get a sequel so we didn't need mods to do what we wanted to do. It's a shame and I don't blame people for sticking to CS1, in fact I am still keeping much of my personal city building time in the game and still doing content for it because it's just such a classic I don't think it'll ever die.
I will still give it another year before I head back to this game.. What they advertised and what came out was a complete night and day difference.. I like what i see but i will wait..
Oh absolutely I think if things keep going in the right direction it'll be good by then! There's still a lot of quirks and stuff it needs to iron out but it's slowly getting there.
the big thing missing for me is a half decent map editor. In its current state the map editor is AWFUL. It has a few very basic thing missing, for example you cant see the height values - you youre just eyeballing everything. its tedious to work with. And I like playing on my own maps so this is a deal breaker for me.
Did the traffic get better after editing a crap load of roads in your city? Because that was the 2nd biggest issue for me. Traffic jams because of stupid ai (I guess that makes it an a without the i). It seems the mod really does make it better, but as a whole, did it make traffic much smoother? My biggest issue is my city came to a crawl (stopped growing) after 250k or something like that. I used to stream this game every Sunday, there came a time I would leave my pc running while I was afk to progress (my poor pc screaming :(). But theres only so much you can do. I hope there is a mod eventually that can fix that. Not sure how long the devs are gonna take to fix that. Oh also, near the end of the video your music has lyrics in it, and it was a bit loud, so your voice + lyrics/singing was a bit distracting to concentrate. :)
But now there is another "gamebreaking" (for me) bug. High Densitiy residential buildings get abandoned after time. Everyone. I think it has to do with land value since the new patch...
Glad to see the game is finally making progress! Too bad moders had to fix it... As a filthy casual, I will probably wait another year for it to really git gud.
If you can dream it, maybe a modder can add it to the game. It is amazing to see what the modders have been able to achieve which just makes the dev team look even more incompetent by comparison. Just imagine how that new mod pack would be a game changer if we had access to an asset editor so that you could actually design and share your hard work. At the moment it seems like an exercise of extreme tedium doing micro-detailing on every asset within a single save. Of course if you decide to delete the building at a later time all that hard work gets deleted as well and then you have to do it again, and again, and again...
Yeah, the micro detailing is definitely something for a very particular type of player ... But it is good to see them doing things I assume were impossible.
@@CitiesByDiana Quick question- when detailing an asset by deleting and adding props, what happens when the building levels up ? Does is get replaced with a new vanilla asset or can you force it to maintain the customization kind of like how the historic mod worked in CS1 ?
I still get/struggle with the "small homes" debuff. Quite possibly one of the most annoying thing about the whole game. I still play skylines 2 but I honestly don't reccomend it to anybody. Needs about another year worth of work and content to be worth it
Still a big L that the mods aren't available in the steam workshop. Of course I'm open to trying Paradox mods but I've only used the steam workshop so PDX mods just looks kinda daunting.
I don’t see myself reinstalling the game anytime soon. It still feels like the modders are polishing a turd. If the base game ever gets good on its own, only then would I consider mods
The mods are making the game better, not the developers. Is that correct! In Skylines 1, the base game was OK, it was the mods which made it the best city builder game ever! I have over 1000 mods, which includes assets!

Glad the modders care about the game.
there's no modern city builder out there in existence, so we gotta work with what we have
@@evilpilott true.
Nice video.
2:17 When you want to dry your laundry on the balcony but your neighbor fires up the grill on his.
CO should be ashamed of themselves
It's back on my wishlist since their latest apology, even though i won't be able to run it until i upgrade some parts. Also gives me time to see how well they follow through and whether they try another beach assets fiasco.
I've been having a cities skylines itch and was going to reinstall the first game this weekend, but after watching this I may give the second game a shot. But either way it's good to know some progress has been made. One question to anyone who may read this: are the zoning squares still screwing up so easily?
Yeah sadly they are .... There's some mods that help but it's a constant issue
@@CitiesByDiana I don't know why that bothers me so much, but it does.
Thanks to content creators and modder 🎉 as always
So glad to hear you're happy! Can't wait to see what you do with it! Return of Lane guy?
Glad you are back looking at CS2
Lots of super detail and ideas. Great!
Is the queen back? ❤
I’m so excited to see the potential of this game.
I'm sorry 😔 after a few hours of gameplay it's been crashing for me again .... This game is frustrating
@@CitiesByDiana It is. These new mods have really created excitement among the video creators. It shows the game's potential. But if it is that fragile, it is unplayable. It has to be fun, not work.
I vouch for that Diana given I dropped three shorts yesterday on three different mods that have certainly given the game a new lease of life now
I am not a City Painter (detailer) so those kinds of mods Ill usually leave alone although I was having fun placing down sand yesterday to make BEACHES for those beach front properties after all 🙂
But the next Mixed ROW Zone, and Mixed Farm Zone have certainly made Cities Skylines a lot more fun with some more low density mixed use, and some zoneable farms when you need small scale farms somewhere 🙂
Still lots to be done but these three particular mods have given a boost for Cape Solaria
mods loading is a pain...I've learned to use Skyve to launch the game-so the mods update in there before you launch CS2- What happens when you launch straight in is when some mods update, then you gotta quit and go back in
I have an i9 4070 RTX, 32 GB RAM, and still this game runs so slow from time to time. I don’t know how to solve this issue
I'm happy to see more mod/asset support. I still don't own the game as I've been waiting for the simulation/economy side to improve.
After a few months and with the right mods including the one that sorts out land value. I like this game more than cities one now. My cities just look so good without trying. this game will get its redemption like no mans sky did.
1:41 That poor woman's wife and kids finding out that she was just inexplicably Thanos snapped out of existence
Honestly after buying it recently and playing for a few hours I can safely say at least it isn’t KSP 2
For once modding can fix a broken game
Also edit how do you not feel stressed or guilty when you edit the roads without pause on LOL
Nice to see you enjoying dtailing again Diana!
Thank you for the video. Once I have finished playing Hotel Renovator, and Manor Lords, will download my preorder and give it a go.
At 2:41, what the hell is that billboard supposed to be ? creepy AF. (AD Wall Large 02)
Then I will come look to back
But the work the modders has been doing is amazing
getting intersection marking tool next would be great
yes! that and node controller
It's shocking that CO still makes modders do all the work.
It's always been good in my view, I'd like to hope that it becomes great. I think it's heading that direction but only time will tell.
Mod support should be added as soon as possible as a small update without much delay and when they add it, it can even replace the updates they barely make
Yes, some of the mods out now are great. Hoping to see more soon
@@CitiesByDiana If they use laziness as an excuse. I can't think very positively but time will tell
i don't play a simulation game for detailing small details like that, for me that should popup automatic i like the managemtn aspect mostly.
Paradox: "The mods will make the game work as it should."
CS2: "Maybe mods will work today, or maybe they'll break everything. And good luck figuring out which of the 30 mods you need is the one causing issues"
I love CS1 and I built a fancy new computer just to play CS2 (performance still sucks).
Love your detailing examples. Its giving us inspiration!
Are the parking spots added by Extra 3.0 functional?
I think the ones I put in aren't as far as I can tell, but there IS a way to make them functional with markers I just didn't do it yet
It’s crazy(not really that crazy) just how much life custom assets and decals completely change the game for me.
I will still give it another year before I head back to this game.. What they advertised and what came out was a complete night and day difference.. I like what i see but i will wait..
love seeing this. Not gonna lie - when you're encouraged, I am too.
The work modders are doing is amazing, but the game will only be good when there is an official asset editor
I think you can make mod collections in PDX mods. Not 100% sure I haven’t played this game in 6 months.
why is the music so epic tho xD but glad to see the modders hard work is paying off !
Idk I felt like epic music worked for this epic update 😂😎
i will give CS2 again when i get bored of playing manor lords witch wont be for a while but nice video
awsome video as you do with all your videos it's really really cool that you can now finely be able to play cs2 with mods congraz 😀😍 love your work 👍🏻
Slowly getting hiped up again for this game, but will let it cook for maybe another six months just to get the better experience
Oh absolutely I think if things keep going in the right direction it'll be good by then! There's still a lot of quirks and stuff it needs to iron out but it's slowly getting there.
Got my potato here, so you are one person whom I will enjoy the game vicariously from!
The only mod that I want that is still missing is the network multitool. After we have it I'm going to buy the game xD
Can I play it through my steam deck?
the big thing missing for me is a half decent map editor.
Yes! It helped a LOT just removing stupid uturns
We're lucky it didn't pull a Kerbal Space Program 2.
Terrain conforming options would be great to have also
Sticking out my Gyatt for the Cities Skylines Rizzler!!
🥹
Sounds like we should be paying the modders instead
Do anyone has that problem when you need to unsub and sub to mods every time? otherwise game does not load them?
It's getting there and now i pay it a bit more.. but the game will crash to desktop way to often ar the moment .
Traffic mod is nice, but as far as I know, the simulation is so broken, that it doesn’t really matter
But now there is another "gamebreaking" (for me) bug. High Densitiy residential buildings get abandoned after time. Everyone. I think it has to do with land value since the new patch...
I feel like I'm the only C:S (1) player who never cared to decorate...
Honestly, I haven't gotten that far haha
The buildings I detailed I plopped with Find It which has a setting to prevent leveling up
😮 those mixed use row houses make me want to get the game! Wow!
I still get/struggle with the "small homes" debuff. Quite possibly one of the most annoying thing about the whole game. I still play skylines 2 but I honestly don't reccomend it to anybody. Needs about another year worth of work and content to be worth it
I purpose-built a Ryzen 7600 / 4070 Super just for Cities Skylines II. I'm waiting for your seal of approval before I purchase...
Still a big L that the mods aren't available in the steam workshop. Of course I'm open to trying Paradox mods but I've only used the steam workshop so PDX mods just looks kinda daunting.
"Cities Skylines 2 is getting better!" Well fuck, it can't possible get any worse...
I don’t see myself reinstalling the game anytime soon. It still feels like the modders are polishing a turd. If the base game ever gets good on its own, only then would I consider mods
Just upgraded my PC, but I'm going to wait a year before I play cs2.
The mods are making the game better, not the developers. Is that correct! In Skylines 1, the base game was OK, it was the mods which made it the best city builder game ever! I have over 1000 mods, which includes assets!
