The Wedding of the decade at A little White Chapel, Las Vegas.

  • We weren't ever going to get married.
We promised early on in our relationship that we would grow old and stupid together and that was enough.
But during the "non-married" era we always added the caveat "Unless we are in Vegas, then we are SO getting married by Elvis".
Time swings by as it is want to do, and certain life events encouraged me to ask my then girlfriend to marry me, for real.
So in 2003 we did. Traditional, white dress (for her) Black Tux (for me). Family, friends, the whole enchilada.
At the reception I remember dancing with my new bride and saying:
    "You know what this means?"
    "What?" She replied.
"For our 10 year wedding anniversary we are going to Vegas to renew our vows."
    She agreed.
For the following 10 years we constantly talked about it, and then, on January 2013 we were there.
At A Little White Chapel, Las Vegas. With a group of friends to witness our renewal.
    Elvis presiding.
I wasn't sure what to expect, The Little White Chapel is the stuff of myth and legend.
It has been in movies (most recently 'The Hangover') and is the same place Ross and Rachel (TV Show, 'Friends') got married, while drunk in Vegas.
What I can say is that the folk at A little white chapel were terrific, and it became apparent that they had been doing this a very long time, as a result nothing was a problem.
    Can't say enough about them.
Oh, and if you find yourself there, make sure that you get the photo package for your wedding, the photographers are just ace. (Ours was a guy called Carlo, ask for him, he's really good).
Now... what to do for our 20th?

How on earth did I let 6 days go by without responding to your comment!
There was much planning in the outfits - my wife searched high and low for a dress, and found this genuine vintage, Union Made 1960's piece of amazing.
Mine was sourced in Vegas after a failure with another suit, BUT it worked out, because this velvet jacket and pink shirt ensemble (with matching velvet bow tie) turned out to be even better than the previous plan.
The guests flew in from all over the world, some brought genuine 60's gear. The others, due to late arrival, went to thrift shops with the brief that they wouldn't spend more than $20 on their entire outfit.
      Result?
      Hilarity.
Sidebar: it wasn't until much later on after walking down Fremont St, and having people ask to have our photo's taken with them that we ended up at a casino (not surprising, because: Vegas) My friend was already sitting down at a black jack table, and waved me over to take the seat next to him. I was greeted by the kind of friendly folk who often find themselves at a $3 table, when the guy sitting to my friend's right leaned over and announced "Oh GREAT, the guy from Monopoly is here!"
      More hilarity.
      Good times.
Thanks for stopping by, and your kind wishes!
(showed your comment to my wife who has now has skipped off to work with a grin on her face.)

Andrew Webber So nice to hear back from you! I wish one could find that kind of vintage around here (nova scotia, Canada)............Cause yes, If I did not know that this was filmed in 2013 I would really wonder how they had such good film quality back in the day! :)
      Have a great day!
